RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACTION! The Mag – true faith Newcastle United Fanzines joint statement Like many Newcastle United supporters we have been sickened by the events of the last week and the departure of Kevin Keegan from his position as manager of our club. We believe Kevin had little alternative but to resign given the gross incompetence and mismanagement of Dennis Wise, Executive Director of Football and Derek Llambias, Managing Director who like Kevin were appointed by Mike Ashley. While Kevin Keegan remained at Newcastle United the fans trusted that the club was moving forward at last, with Keegan’s departure all trust has gone. Both The Mag and true faith believe there has been a fundamental break in trust between board and the support. Both true faith and The Mag have been inundated by requests from supporters keen to take action against those within the boardroom of Newcastle United. Having read many hundreds if not thousands of e-mails sent into both fanzines we are recommending the following action in protest at its appalling treatment of Kevin Keegan and the entirely unworkable structure it has established at the club, namely around the club’s transfer policy. That initial action includes; An immediate and indefinite boycott of all Newcastle United merchandise to include replica shirts, other club clothing and any items sold at official NUFC outlets. It will also include the non-purchase of all Newcastle United programmes and magazines as well as food, drinks and beverages of any description. This boycott will include raffle tickets, lotteries and any other products associated with Newcastle United Football Club. This to include also a boycott of all club bars including Shearer’s Bar as well as club cafes, official club tours, visits to the NUFC museum and any other activity which generates an income for Newcastle United. This boycott to be extended to any retail outlet or product owned either in full or in part by Mike Ashley e.g. Sports Soccer, Lillywhites etc. We do not advocate a boycott (this is backed up overwhelmingly in the emails we have received) of the game against Hull City at SJP on Saturday 13/Sep/08. Newcastle United’s players have done nothing wrong and certain individuals have behaved impeccably given the manner in which their manager and team-mates have been treated this last week. They remain deserving of our support. We advocate supporters vocally expressing their disgust against the current regime whether they are at the match or not, which will act as a clear demonstration of the antipathy of supporters towards Ashley, Llambias and Wise. There should be no abuse directed at any Newcastle United player. We insist that Mike Ashley does not attend away games amongst the travelling support. He is not a Newcastle United supporter and as far as true faith and The Mag are concerned he is not welcome amongst our ranks. If any effort is made by Ashley to attend future away games we would recommend the away support to vocally remind him he is not wanted amongst us. We do not advocate violent disorder of any description.

Mike Ashley, the embattled owner of Newcastle United, could be offered an early opportunity to follow Kevin Keegan out of St James' Park after it emerged that there is fresh interest in the Tyneside club from abroad. It is becoming increasingly likely that Reliance Communications, the Indian-based telecoms giant, will seek formal talks with the Barclays Premier League club's board with a view to a £220million takeover. However, of greater significance to those furious Newcastle supporters determined to oust Ashley is the revelation that Anil Ambani, the owner of Reliance, has identified Keegan as the only credible managerial candidate capable of moving the club forward. Less than 24 hours after Keegan announced his departure from St James' as manager for the second time, the odds on him being reappointed had fallen to 14-1. Ambani is a great believer in continuity and his representatives are aware of the standing of the so-called “Geordie Messiah” among the club's supporters. He was first linked with a buyout of Newcastle last month, but his representatives hastily denied suggestions of a £260million move. It is understood that Ambani balked at that price because Newcastle had failed to strengthen a threadbare squad. However, Reliance has since followed developments at the club and the team that it assembled to investigate the viability of a bid believes that the time is right to test Ashley's resolve. Aware of the vitriol aimed at Newcastle's owner by fans who feel that Keegan is an innocent victim of mismanagement, the Indians are ready to move fast with an offer that more realistically matches their assessment of the club's value. Ashley paid £130million for Newcastle in July 2007 and immediately wiped out debts estimated at £80million, but rumours persisted that the reclusive businessman was seeking an early sale after becoming disillusioned with his significant investment. Despite club statements insisting that the owner of Sports Direct, the leisure-wear firm, was not inclined to sell his recent acquisition, highly placed sources suggest that Reliance and others were invited to bid in excess of £250million for Newcastle this summer. Those sources said yesterday that Ambani was ready to revive interest in his favourite Premier League club, with Keegan at the centre of an ambitious public-relations policy aimed to get disillusioned season ticket-holders and deserting businesses back on board. Ashley is minded to tough it out and go against the advice of those urging him to end a tumultuous foray into football ownership. Yet just as Keegan's position as manager became untenable, it would be hard for the Newcastle owner to operate effectively in the face of a torrent of criticism. Ambani will appeal to Newcastle supporters, who crave serious investment in the team come January. The world's sixth-richest man boasts a fortune of £21billion and it is understood that Keegan, should he be persuaded to return for a third term at St James' Park, would be handed at least £100million to strengthen the Newcastle squad in the new year. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle4686705.ece

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley celebrated with friends at a $220,000 party in a New York dancing bar as manager Kevin Keegan desperately fought for his job. Sportsmail can reveal that while angry Newcastle supporters were demanding that Ashley step down over his handling of Keegan's resignation, the controversial billionaire had been partying with friends quaffing $7,500 bottles of Cristal champagne at the Pink Elephant club in swanky Manhattan. Ashley had earlier refused to cut short his US trip after appeals from Keegan to meet face to face and told club managing director Derek Llambias to deal with the situation. While Keegan then sought legal advice to try to salvage his role, Ashley racked up the astonishing bar bill after hosting a boozy party that was gatecrashed by local celebrities. Ashley's party swelled to around 30 people after midnight, when a celebrity bash in a neighbouring club closed its doors and the crowd went in search of more free drinks. Actors Kevin Connolly and Jeremy Piven, from U.S. TV series Entourage, swilled champagne with former Dallas Cowboys star Deion Sanders, ex-Boston Red Sox baseball star Mo Vaughn and Black Eyed Peas' singer Will.I.Am. They all joined in but none of them knew who Ashley was. A source at the Pink Elephant said: 'They all partook in the drinking of the Cristal, but that was it. None of them know who he is.' The club is ultra-trendy with walls that pump out aromatherapy scents and bejewelled chandeliers. No-one from Newcastle was available to comment last night. The incident will only serve to enrage the club's fans further. Some of the Newcastle hierarchy hoped they could be appeased by the appointment of Alan Shearer as manager. Both Dennis Wise, who is uncomfortable with the idea of taking over as manager, and Tony Jimenez believed an approach for Shearer would offer stability. However, Ashley was not keen due to the 38-year-old's lack of experience. Shearer was overlooked as Sam Allardyce's replacement in January and Ashley's opinion of the former Newcastle striker has not changed since then. Not interested: Geordie legend Alan Shearer won't put himself forward for the managerial position at St James' Park until a new regime is in place. Shearer, who is said to be stunned at the events of the past week, said he did not want to succeed anyway, telling friends he would prefer to wait for a different regime before he took the job. He may not have to wait too long. Supporters are planning a series of events aimed at undermining not only Ashley's position as club owner but also to negatively affect his Sports Direct business. And Sportsmail understands he is ready to sell with talks planned with the Reliance Communications Group led by Indian businessman Anil Ambani on Monday. Billionaire Ambani is the sixth richest man in the world with a personal wealth estimated at £21billion. He and his group plan to take control of a Premier League club and look for new revenue streams in the Indian market, with Newcastle considered ripe for the taking due to their current instability and Ashley's careful book-keeping. In clearing the debts he unexpectedly inherited, he has spent a total of £230million since his ill-advised takeover. It would take an offer of at least £350m to tempt him into a sale. Ashley is expected to return after the club's next game against Hull at St James' Park. Newcastle supporters look unlikely to boycott that game but there have been calls for a blanket ban on all club products and all of Ashley's stores, including Sports Direct, Sports Soccer and Lillywhites. They will stage a visual protest during the Hull match and are threatening to boycott Shearer's bar, all bars inside the ground and some fans have cancelled direct debit payments for season tickets. Despite the fans' reactions to Keegan's departure, Ashley is determined to stand by his European-style management formula until a new buyer is found. Assistant coach Terry McDermott again took training yesterday while the argument over who owes whom what has intensified. Keegan's three-and-a-half-year contract contains a clause stipulating whichever party terminates the deal owes the other £2m. He may argue that he has a case for constructive dismissal after finding himself unable to work alongside Wise, and LMA chief exceutive Richard Bevan believes Newcastle would be better re-evaluating their managerial structure rather than pursuing legal action against Keegan. He said the club looked 'like an orchestra with four conductors.' Bevan added: 'I'd like to see Newcastle, rather than coming out and saying they are going to sue Kevin Keegan for £2m, talking about how they are going to improve for the next manager, how to have a working executive team that has shared positions, shared goals and good communication.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...d.html?ITO=1490

We should get behind the team but once the full whistle is gone remain in our seats shouting abuse at the bastards until they make us leave....

I was about to say the same thing. This is just a symptom of the wider malaise in the game for me. Everyone's doing shite analogies so here's mine: It's like a toffee apple you'd buy at the Town Moor. It looks great on the outside but one bite reveals it's rotten to the core. Thats like something Simon Cowell would say....
