I was thinking more in terms of someone like Darren Peacock, Philipe Albert, Nicos Dabizas, Jonathon Woodgate to be honest. What if we sign a Boumsong in the summer ? I'm pleased most people seem to agree what needs to be done in the summer. No reason why it couldn't have been done earlier though........is there ?

I think everyone is enjoying it, I certainly am. I can't imagine any Newcastle fans are not enjoying this season. But it shouldn't stop us talking and debating where the club is going in the longer term. Its possible to enjoy it and still be very concerned that the excellent season we are having will not be sustained with the current policy of selling your best players and replacing them with lower cost alternatives. Thing is BM, we haven't replaced them with lower cost alternatives, we've replaced them with lower cost improvements and I think it's churlish to ignore that important factor. It's like selling a clapped out Saxo for £3,500 and buying a BMW M3 for £1,000, a B&O Cinema system for £800, a gold plated unicorn for £500 and a bath filled of Malaysian orphans' tears for £700. We've vastly improved the squad and the coffers aren't empty and we've not had to borrow money from anyone who's going to charge us interest. I'm happy to keep one eye on the fat man, I don't trust him entirely. You have to admit his policy seems to be working, even if we were to finish the season in 7th spot you'd have to admit that his 'Scout-hard, negotiate harder' system is paying dividends. but we could have done even better, rather than look at the spare money. You do see this, don't you ?

We have indeed. However, probably, deep down, they KNOW that the only way forward from here is to do what you, I and a handful of others have been saying for ages, but don't want to admit it. Is that directed at me ? If so, I agree with your last line completely, and I think others should read that comment and take it on board. If, or when, I'm convinced that the current owner will challenge the top clubs in the way that we ought to do, and he is only going to do that by keeping our best players and backing his manager, without withholding cash from the manager from sales, then I will be quite happy to admit that i am wrong. However, I still believe this will not happen, and as this course of action has only occured in one transfer window, it is far too premature to say anything has changed. Do you think, if he starts selling players and we don't build on this, the vast majority of people on here will then admit that they have also been wrong ? I don't care about the advertising if the money went to the manager of the club and he showed the ambition. If the money is put back into the footballing side of the club ie given to the manager, he can do what he likes for me. My problem is that this is not happening, meaning he is using the club for the benefit of the Sports Company and putting the sports company first, which is not what I want as a paying supporter.

if you really think that you can be successful without backing your manager, you seriously need help. Grow up or expect the piss-taking. one post HF. i have just answered NJS with absolutely the correct reply to his question about Forest under Clough and Taylor, and asked Gemmill to reply to what I say sensibly instead of making childish remarks like he does. Nobody forces him to make these childish and stupid remarks. What else do you think I should say ? There is literally no point in responding to this. You have zero self awareness. I hope you don't start complaining when I don't answer people, especially when I'm asked the same thing by 20 people or more. That was a serious question.
