I haven't enjoyed a season as much as this one since....
LeazesMag replied to Dr Gloom's topic in Newcastle Forum
a few years and an obvious ambitious setup and aim to go higher, by building and improving rather than selling your best players and hoping to replace more cheaply ? Is this seriously the way for a big club to act ? What do you think ? How many times........ -
I don't think he should be banned but I can't fathom why he doesn't post about games, player performances etc instead of just constantly ranting about the same stuff. He's even been arguing with the author in his book review why don't you comment about the 1970's, 80's, history of the club etc ? I'm entitled to comment about what i like and I've told you that I'm not interested in these posts that give points for performances and setting out player formations, and if I'm at the game I don't and have no intention to post while I'm watching it nor in the pub later. Who do you think you are ?

how sad. Living in a little dreamworld is your choice I suppose, you've been doing it for over 4 years already. As is posting when you should be working. Anyway, I'm curious as to why people get all defensive whenever someone dares to suggest that soopa Mike isn't the dogs bollocks every time the team wins a couple of games, because this appears to be the problem from where I'm sitting. Certain people are a waste of time, so its easy enough to ignore them but others need to start responding to the post rather than the poster.

fucking hell. -
what a shame, that intelligent people like yourself, have absolutely NOTHING to say about the book, and reply to the poster rather than the post. This was a genuine effort by myself to write a comprehensive review of a book which covers a period that I post about a lot, and gain an insight into things I may not have heard before, but so far this is all that it has become. How sad is that. Maybe it is all out of your depth ? Just a thought.

Chapter 8 +++++++ Almost solely concerned with personality clashes behind the scenes, Sir John Hall wanted the re-instatement of Douglas and FS while Mr Cassidy and one or two others didn’t. I suspected the root of this book would take a bitter stance and it now appears to be heading in that direction. This was not helped by the author stating that Kenny Dalglish dedicated the FA Cup Semi Final win to Douglas and Fred. Maybe the author thinks he knows more about football and how to succeed than Dalglish, who undoubtedly understood what is needed from the boardroom to succeed in football having spent his years at Liverpool and Blackburn. He also talks about rumoured sale of shares to NTL, the change of manager, and then proclaims moving into 9th place in the table then a slump to 14th, which undoubtedly it is when you are used to being a lot higher than that………This whole paragraph seems as if the only thing that matters to him is the “image” of the boardroom, personally as a football supporter I’d rather have a good team on the pitch then “gentlemen” in the boardroom anytime, after all the Halls and Shepherd had taken over a club with one foot in the 3rd division that had been run for decades by “gentlemen”. He says the moves by Sir John and Freddie Fletcher to re-instate Douglas and Fred were quite simply because they thought the club was best run by them and looking at the progress made by the club in the 4-5 years so far, it is difficult to argue against that. He closes chapter 8 by criticising the FA Cup Final defeat to ManU and comments on the embarkation of a high risk but financially rewarding financial journey by the 2 re-instated board members. Of course, the alternative was reverting to being run by gentlemen again

that is absolutely correct, they sold their best players, and when people ie me and one or two others, pointed out that Liverpool's transfer policy was "flawed" etc etc it was pointed out that it was superior to the mackems, and ours too for that matter. Because unfortunately, it is. In fact, I got the usual rubbish spouted in my direction by those who think you can forever sell your best players and replace adequately for less money. In the real world, this is simply never sustained by anybody. For those who have talked about "lacking professionalism" ie the grey man, it takes a damn sight more "professionalism" to qualify for the Champions League and europe regularly than it does to be relegated, and selling your best players and not backing your manager isn't exactly very "professional" either, but I suppose saying this in 3 lines rather than 3 pages of bullshit is too simplistic. -

Aye, I can't understand all these otherwise sensible posters constantly getting bogged down in the same old shite. Every other thread is full of this toxic shit and is becoming unreadable. It's a shame those posters or the mods don't see the overall damage it's doing to this place. It's like Internet Jeremy Kyle the trouble with this is, "sensible posters" - in your eyes - is someone who agrees with YOU ? Now, I think I'm right, in fact, I know that I am. A good run of results doesn't make YOU right, and the problem is too many people getting carried away by a relatively short run of results. As always, my comments are long term, while winning games in the short term is enjoyable and what going to games is all about, it isn't wrong to point out the limitations and lack of long term ambition in the overall setup. This may not suit opinions, but it is true. And after all, its all about opinions, or supposed to be. Nobody is "abusing" anybody so far as I can see, if someone wants to say I'm spouting bollocks I'm quite happy to say that they are and I'm 100% confident that I will be right. Do you want a message board where everybody agrees with each other ? That is what Newcastle ONlne is like man, and the mods etc have created a message board for gimps with their actions over the years. Banning people or advocating banning people because they disagree with you is pathetic and drags the board down more than anything. -

But for every 1 good post there are hundreds of the same old drivel. I'm happy to play the percentage game and keep him on ignore. your own comments would be better substantiated if you stopped your own moaning and admitted that you are saying what I told you years ago and have bickered with me about ever since, now you more or less agree. I must have made a lot of good posts years ago, because you are now repeating what I told you about ambition, keeping good players, buying more good players etc etc, but you disagreed with me vehemently when I told you that you should not take such ambitions for granted and any new owner would not automatically show it. -

I only make "daft responses" to daft kids who can't read and absorb what I'm trying to tell them, because I believe what I'm saying 100% and it goes without saying that I would far rather believe the ambition that ought to be there, was there. You know, that what I said on the previous page, is exactly what I have been saying for years, including what I said all the time on NO and got banned for it, because nobody agreed. -

fuck off back to watching Strictly Come Dancing. Why don't you just admit that you were wrong ? Or stop moaning about Mike Ashley's ambitions ? Either, but stick to it. -

that is all that concerns me Chez. There isn't the ambition there ought to be, that's all that counts. -

well, its certainly the best since Mr Ashley took over, but you know what they say, lower your expectations and they piss the bed in anticipation more. -

I don't care what you do, just listen to what I tell you and don't tell me you know better when you don't. I was exiled for many years and it didn't stop me from supporting the team, including all the way through those dismal years of the Champions League etc by the way, when the club was run badly and was an embarrassment, according to numerous "fans" ? -

It's bollocks though innit. A supporter and a fan basically means the same thing. no it doesn't. Watching games on TV in Tulse Hill is no better than watching Strictly Come Dancing. -

they only had 20,000 supporters max before the Halls and Shepherd, and that 52000 has also fallen in the last few years,. since soopa Mike came in and proved that anybody could do better than the hopeless Fred, and got relegated into the bargain. Thats the reality lad, going by your criteria. -

Seriously though Leazes, you just don't give the impression you enjoy games at all now. There are 'supporters' in the ground like that, generally known as gobshites who would rather see us lose to satisfy their own personal prejudices. I'll be honest and tell you I got to that stage during the reign of Souness towards the end. Difference being I new he'd be gone soon though, whereas Ashley is going nowhere. If you can't accept this and get behind the team you should rethink your Saturday afternoons imo. Or maybe your just like this on this board. It's your own business anyway, I just can't fathom it. I've seen all of this before, I've seen the team win a few games, I got carried away when I was a kid. When you are wet behind the ears you believe because you want to believe. The reality is that NUFC are now - or were - one of the biggest and most ambitious clubs in the country, nothing else would have transformed the club from what it was in the early 1990's into what it ended up as. Those days are over. A new regime now rules the club, and the new regime does not have the ambition the old regime did, they have different priorities and a different way of doing thing, and different goals. This is the real world. You would enjoy it all a damn sight more if you knew the foundations were being laid of a long term ambitious setup, but they are not. Selling your best players and withholding cash and not backing your manager is not a good policy, forget for a moment the good buys [as most people have conveniently forgot the bad buys] and think about this. How is selling your best players and not backing your manager to use the entire cash to the best of his ability the way forward to long term success ? Think about it as a strategy ? Never in the history of football has such a policy sown the seeds of long term consistent success, for a club which is supposed to be a big club and capable of holding onto its best players, which it ought to be able to do if it wanted to compete to do it. I really can't keep explaining this, some people can see it, unfortunately because the team has won a couple of games and is having a decent run, it blinds others of all common sense, logic and the lessons of history and the reality of football. Not really my problem, I'll keep on saying what I'm saying, because I'm right, and all logic tells you so. -

embarrassing. How much have you paid in the last 4 years, and the next 3 to "see the team lose every week". Coming from someone who is a self proclaimed smart lad, that is incredibly desperate and juvenile. Well you'd test the patience of a saint. Do you never get sick of repeating the same shit over and over again? Do you not think you'd be better off waiting for your apocalyptic predictions to come true before jizzing your pants and doing a 'I told you so' jig? Anyway, what's this with you asking people how much they spend on the club now? I'm fairly certain I spend at least as much as you, is that your point? Will I see you at Spurs on Saturday? Not that it's of any relevance at all like. my point is that I've paid for the next 3 years season tickets, so its ludicrous to suggest people doing that want the team to lose. What sort of crap is that ? I'm trying to tell you that I find this sort of thinking, by YOU [who admittedly isn't stupid, or are you ?] to be quite amazing. I've no problem if you have seen one more game than me this season or any of that bollocks, I don't need to justify myself to anybody, I've supported the club completely since 1964 and I'm sure you are a committed supporter too, you've only just made me doubt your intelligence by these remarks. -

oh dear. If you spend fuck all, what does it make someone who sees the team play regularly ? Only the non-supporters drag out this sort of bollocks. Fact is that the more you go to games, the more a supporter you are, if you can't be arsed to go to games, it doesn't make you much of a supporter does it ? There are exceptions, because there are sometimes circumstances, but anybody can watch a team on TV and say they support them. What sort of intellect says someone who can take supporting the club or leave it, is as committed as someone who goes to lots of games ? If NUFC lose, do you watch Dancing on Ice instead ? Why am I taking my time explaining this ? A supporter wouldn't even ask it. -

You're just a knob who watches games on TV. Not everybody who doesn't go to games is a know-nowt though, but you seem to be. -

you should play monopoly, and imagine that when you encouraged the mad spending spree of Souness, it was all just a game and not the real thing. Then resit your accountancy exams.
