According to Look North.....

Something, I'd forgotten about, but the Sports bloke on Look North has just said that Newcastle will pay Real Madrid less than £16m, due to the money Real owe NUFC for Woodgate.

Makes sense, so I suppose we haven't forked out as much as people think, and with that £8m recouped from Jenas going to Spurs, it's really not that bad.

I can't understand that logic - that money was money owed and therefore Newcastle's money. If Fat Fred hasn't enough money in his wallet for all those pies and has to quickly run around to the ATM to withdraw a bit more cash - did he only spend the money in his wallet?

We've still paid £16m regardless.

Yes, of course we have, but as that money hasn't been recieved, it does make it easier though.

From a cash flow point of view it does make things a bit easier. I still reckon he was free.

We bought Woodgate for £9m and sold him for £14m: £5m profit.

We bought Jenas for £5m and sold him for £8m: £3m profit.

It's not like we're £16m worse off.

There isi no sign in the Interim Accounts for 2005 that the debt owed to us suddenly shot up - which it would have done if theWoodgate money hadn't been paid - I reckon Fred has had his hands on it all year

Though, I've heard the Newcastle balance sheets aren't exactly very trustworthy. The PLC is also a bit lenient when it comes to stock market anouncements...

No, you see that's exactly what we are. We ultimately paid 16 million for the player, don't confuse the issue with where the cash is resting or what form it's currently in.

I see, so if you buy a new car for £5000, then sell your old one for £2000, you are still down by £5000!?

I don't know why anyone would buy a new car. It is the single easiest way of throwing away a lot of money.

Are you one of those people who likes to make out he's doing well by buying overpriced cars?

So was the asset you already had a gift from your Dad, or did you have to buy that too? Because if you had to buy it, you can't really offset the figure against the sum you spent on the new car can you?
