Aussie Rules - do I have this right?

having put an ice pack on my head Ithink this is how it works:-

1. 16 teams in the ladder play 22 games (why don't they play 30? who decides which teams they DON'T Play)

2. After 22 games the ladder is split into sheep (1-8) and goats (9-16)

3. The Elimination Finals have #5 v #8 and #6 v. #7 - the winners of these games goes into the Semi Finals

4. The Qualifying Finals have #1 v. #4 and #3 v #2 - the winners of these games go into the Preliminary Finals; the losers go into the SemiFinals

5. The SemiFinals are played between the winners of the Elimination Finals and the losers in the Qualifying Finals - the winners in the Semi Finals go into the Preliminary Finals

6. The winners of the Preliminary finals meet in the Grand Final

buy this stage no-one cares and everyone has gone on holiday............

:blink:;):razz::(:blush::D:(:nufc::nufc:

I would suggest straight knockout - its easier..........................

I like the referees. You know, the ones who look like they should be working behind the butcher's counter in Asda.

When they signal a goal is the best.

Rob, your Aussie Rules hate is beginning to disturb me. Were you raped by a St Kilda player or something?

'Spitroasted' - with Paula Radcliffe bringing up the other end apparently.

Ladies & Gentlemen!

the reason I want to know is that , to quote Sir Humphrey Appleby "I have to know EVERYTHING!"

I have many Australian friends and a lot of them live in and about Adelaide where you are either a Port or a Crow supporter - I am bombarded by emails, letters, and converstaions which make reference to "the Ladder", the "piss-poor Final" etc etc

If I am going to keep my reputation as all knowing, all wise, all seeing and ALWAYS right I must be able to at least know the bloody basics of the game otherwise I will, metaphorically, confuse my CL qualifier with the Deodora League and be a mock and a scorn. And by AUSTRALIANS...... the thought is very upsetting.

No smart ass on here has actually answered the question by the way

PS My many supporters and followers will know that I will continue my interest in the People's Paula and her record and wil report with interest the findings of various continuing investigations into the contents of Mr Armstrong's blood stream......................

Sorry Rob W but there really is only one thing to know about aerial ping pong and that is it is shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sooner my fellow Australians get the fucking thick heads around the fact Rugby and aerial ping pong aren't football the better the country will be.

But if you really must know, try www.afl.com.au and I hope you get a headache if you actually go to that site.

On the subject of crazy arse competitions, has anyone ever seen how the run the Brazilian league?

Over the last 20 years they have changed it almost every season but there was one season, one of the largest clubs was relegated in there regional league but appealed to play in the national "finals" because of "they were a BIG club", then they went on to win and become national champions of the whatever sooooooooooopa cup.

Farce!

I love Aussie Rules.

I'm a long suffering Collingwood supporter (didn't I have fun growing up in Adelaide!). Now I live in Perth. The West Coast Eagles are probably going to make the GF. This pains me so much. If they win, I'm taking a holiday, this place will be going off and full of arrogant twats. Although, I have been along to a few of their games this season - I think I'm developing a soft spot for them.

*Not to self*: Move back to civilisation. QUICKLY!!!

You can be both a (real) football fan and an Aussie Rules fan at the same time. So what if we have our own game and exclude everyone else from it? It's just because we're so much better than everyone else at everything it's nice to just stick to ourselves and not have to listen to the foreign whingers after we beat them.

I'm going to be in Perth for the Grand Final and now I don't know what I want to happen. I don't want the Eagle to make it because it'll make Perth unbearable, but that means Adelaide go through and I dispise anything South Australian. My hope? The rape squad of St Kilda win the Premiership, Victoria is the rightful home of it anyway.

The BBC website isn't THAT extensive. ;)

The thing I find funny about Aussie Rules that in the results section of a newspaper, 'significant injuries' are listed alongside the score, scorers, and attendence.

Eagles vs Sydney GF!

AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

What makes it worse for me?? I'm going! Not only do I have to sit through a GF with the Eagles playing in it, but I have to return to home to Eagles hysteria in Western Australia. One good thing to come out of it is that I'm going with my best friend in the whole wide world - she's had a pretty shitty year, and an Eagles win would just bring a smile to her face. Here's hoping the boys can get up for her!

I just glanced at this and in my dislexic mind I saw:

Sorry magelaide.

Did you see any of the a-league matches on the weekend instead of the aerial ping pong?

I'm going to be in Perth for the Grand Final and apparently we're heading off to the casino to watch the game. My 'friend' there is a Freo fan though, so at least I'll be seeing it with someone else that wants Sydney to get up. I'm definitely behind the Swans in this one, with no Victorian teams involved at least I can say they used to be South Melbourne.

I saw the Victory match against Queensland, the bastard ref gave Thompson a yellow for diving in the penalty area when he was clearly brought down. It just sucks that there were no Victory home matches while I've been in town, although I've done my bit by buying both a home and an away shirt.

I take it you've jumped on the new Sydney team bandwagon? I've been surprised how much of a following the Victory are getting here, I've come across a lot of people that are excited about football. It was always hard for me to get behind Melbourne teams in the past being neither Greek nor Croatian. It's great to have a team with no ethnic bias.
