I defined it above for you but if you need me to spell it out, its a policy that affects the social welfare of the people.

You can probable exclude foreign policy from the umbrella.

That was my definition too, as shown in post 103 on this thread where I was suprised Fop made a distinction between social and 'general' policy. Of course, he was just attempting to wriggle out of his original inane comments, as usual.

So you finally admit you don't know what it is either.

This is why threads go this way, it's very reminiscent of the CPU thread.

Christ you're tedious Fop.

And yet you always (without fail) fall over yourself to try and get into an argument with Fop.

I can't even remember much about the CPU thread, other than it giving clues to what you do as a living. Anyway, I bought my PC and I'm very happy with it thank you. I didn't get one of you IT geeks to build it either.
You can't remember what you were on about re: "social policy" so it's no surprise, but it (the CPU thread) was very representative of your need to argue with Fop, even though you weren't sure at all about what it was you were arguing about. :D

That's another one to add to the Fop's profession list of obsession though.

I think it's telling you won't say what you do, it gives you the option of pretending to be an expert on everything, rather than being a clueless gimp who knows next to nothing. Of course, everyone can see you're actually the latter.

Anyway, now your tedium has forced me to insults I suppose I'd better get some work done, thanks for remotivating me. I have a rather dull paper to read instead. Heaven.

its never Renton who starts the insults ;)

Again that is a meaningless statement in this context, which "people"? what "social welfare"? What where you talking about?

Fop doesn't know, and clearly you still don't either.

"Social Policy is the study of social welfare, and its relationship to politics and society."

As an Economist, i define it as the combined welfare of all individuals that comprise a society. See Arrow for measurement problems and Rawls for a definition that includes liberties, which would be of interest to you.

Always happy to help.

So still you don't actually know what you mean by "social policy"; using a lot of words just to say that really doesn't help you know.

Back to the pooey pants insults I see, well done stick to what you know. :D

However Fop is endlessly amused (and bemused) at how utterly obsessed many of you are about Fop's profession and how uppity you seem to get over it (whatever you think it is today; be it "IT geek", "teacher", "student", "porn star", "dark overlord" or whatever is dreamt up next ;) ).

Renton doesn't like admitting when he's wrong, because he's too smart a lad to ever be wrong

As I also said, he's now resorting to accusing others of starting the insults instead ......... when its him that does it

He would look a lot better if he just admitted he'd been made to look a complete and utter fuckwit, like I have pointed out to him ref his past comments about "planning" and the performance of the ex owners of the football club, and his [almost] admittance that he now sees immigration as a problem but called people "thick" [words to that effect] not so long ago for not being a hand wringer like him, but he won't.

Edit. The obsession with wanting to know what you do, FOP, is nothing other on the part of the Rentons of this world to [hopefully] fuel his belief that he is superior to you and his desire to show it by virtue of him having a good job, better than yours. He must be some really insecure bloke. I wouldn't worry about it though, he doesn't know what I have done with my life and he won't find out either. :D

Any policy that affect the social welfare of society forms part of 'social policy', its why the design of the spectrum of social benefits that country governments pay for including health, housing, education, unemployment benefits etc are referred to as their 'social model'.

If you worked in the area, you'd know this. Why you want to insist that social policy be narrowly defined is just a reflection of your personality, not a reflection of how policy-makers, academics and public sector agencies refer to it.

When York University prepared their 'Social Policy and Analysis' course for my Economics MSc in 1997, they used a broad definition that included all elements of policy that affect social welfare. You're clearly not comfortable with these concepts as you cant engage intellectually with the posts here.

To return to the point, the Conservatives dismantled a prohibitively progressive tax regime which included a 98% tax band and streamlined our fiscal system into two broad tax bands. If you search on the Institute of Fiscal Studies website, you can find data that shows the shift in the tax burden from the rich to the poorer.
