I seem to recall Mr Shearer stood on the ganty at the Hawthorns on the opening day of the season confirming that he'd have loved the job full time and still would...

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton hailed his side's "wonderful achievement" after they secured Premier League promotion.

 

The Magpies' return to the top flight was sealed after Nottingham Forest drew 0-0 with Cardiff - guaranteeing the league leaders a top-two finish.

 

"From day one the focus has been to put everything into this," said Hughton ahead of the visit of Sheffield United.

 

"These group of lads have had a real desire to get back into a division that everyone here thinks we should be in."

 

Newcastle's 16-year stay in the Premier League ended on 24 May last year after a tame 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa.

 

However, on Saturday St James' Park was the scene of a promotion party for the Toon Army, who have seen their side lose just four times in the league all season.

 

Hughton joined Newcastle as a coach in February 2008 during Kevin Keegan's ill-fated second spell as manager of the club.

 

And when Alan Shearer declined the chance to continue managing the team last summer after he had failed to prevent them being relegated, Hughton was promoted from caretaker boss to a full-time role.

 

Hughton's side opened the season with a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion, however they followed that by winning their next five matches.

 

Their only defeats this campaign have come on the road - at Blackpool, Nottingham Forest, Scunthorpe and Derby.

 

After the 3-0 loss at Pride Park on 9 February, Newcastle embarked on an 11-match unbeaten run, including eight victories, which has proved enough to end their brief Premier League exile.

 

"Securing promotion with six games to spare is testament to this set of players," Hughton told the club's official website.

 

And the 51-year-old former Tottenham defender immediately set his his sights on guiding the Tynesiders to more glory by winning the Championship title.

 

"It's important [to win the title] because that's where we've been most of the season and we want to stay in that position," he said.

 

"We want to celebrate promotion with victory in front of our magnificent fans," the former Republic of Ireland international added.

however, i would point to the fact that it was patently obvious that bees could fly, anyone with a pair of eyes (or even just one eye) could see that. however it is not YET patently obvious that climate change is man made as reported by said 'scientists'.

in the 16/17th century leaches were considered a fantastic cure for diarrhea and the majority of physicians of the time would have prescribed as such. however, as time progressed this was proven to be nonsense.

 

I've yet to see impirical evidence that climate change is man made and nor do i expect to see such evidence in the near future.

That's the point. Scientists were 90% certain bees could fly. All the evidence said they could, including our eyes telling us it was so...but arguments raged about the numbers to prove it.

 

It's the same with climate change. Scientist have said with 90% certainty it's cause is man-made because ALL the evidence says it is....actually proving it beyond any doubt whatsoever with numbers is where the debate is.

Would you prefer the BBC give equal coverage to creationism and evolutionry theories? Despite what all the science says, there's no conclusive proof that god himself didn't create human beings. Was it against the BBC charter to have the recent season of Darwin shows celebrating his work without also devoting the same level of coverage to religious fruit cakes?

for what its worth a good friend of mine (this guy http://www.channel4.com/history/microsites...team_mark.html) has spoken to me about Global Warming and some of the stuff is surprising

 

to sum it up he was saying that the entire CO2 generated by man globally in one year roughly equals that produced by an erupting Volcano in a single day, however the world has always had erupting volcanos and the planet was/is in a fragile balance, however he was saying that we could be the straw that breaks the camels back

There's a difference between evidence and proof.

 

The amount of evidence to support a theory could be small or large. Proof is absolute. It either exists or it doesn't.

 

When you weigh up ALL the evidence there is on climate change, we can be over 90% sure it's man made.
