I just can't believe we're a point behind Arsenal!

They're a poor side though. That's a N-O exclusive.

69414

The story was actually broken on Toontastic though, IIRC.

69418

HTT exclusive then  I'm guessing N-O was ferked

On a team played  by team played  basis we are 8 points better than last season so far..............

Difficult to beleive but it's a fact....................

69409

So that works out at over £4 million a point so far does it?

£50m spent in the summer and only 8 points better than last season. Is this acceptable? No. We should be 18 points better!

69457

Is that based on a particular formula or just an arbitrary number?

69469

Common sense methinks.

An arbitrary number. But we should be doing much better than being 8 points clear.

Mine was simple - £35M (net spend) / 8

And wtf is happening with Luque when Ameobi is keeping him out the team?

Really what?

I'll reiterate - I don't think it's unreasonable to expect us to do better than we are after so much money was spent on new players in the summer.

Have you mathematicians taken into account the 3 games before £28m was spent?

And as Rob pointed out, we have done better. So you should be a happy man!

Of course ;)

But come on! No club (with the exception of Chelsea, who are in a league of their own) has spent more money on new players in the last year than we have. Are shit performances and 10th place a fair return on investment?

If you're going to talk about the money spent in those terms them you really have to consider how many minutes that money has spent on the pitch. The impact that Owen has had when playing has been phenominal, even for 17m. And another 10m of that basically hasn't played yet.

Well, we have won the last 2 games with him playing there.....

No but I think absences have been a factor (though too easily stated as well).

We need a run with the best 11/12 out to properly judge imo though I accept that the squad should be better.

We've certainly had some rotten luck with injuries. Let's face it though, who thought Owen was going to be fit for the entire season?

He was fit for Real Madrid for virtually the whole season.

69489

He didn't play that much though did he?

69490

Something like 25 appearances off the top of my head, so he had slightly less chance of getting injured but his not playing wasn't down to his availability.

True. He was always injured for Liverpool though and taking into consideration his history with hamstrings, his injury problems shouldn't be that much of a surprise. I think we all agree on the fact that we're fucked when he doesn't play though.
