German needed.

Bit of an ambiguous quote here, which really needs someone fluent in German and English to tell us all what is going on:

If anyone can translate, we'll all be grateful.

" Mr Hitzfield however does not share our concerns, we spoke to a close member of the Hitzfeld family who confirmed that Newcastle United have been in contact with Ottmar, although he would not be drawn on how negotiations had progressed he did state that Ottmar was interested and had not given an answer as yet. We however passed on the documentation we had and the way in which the people of the campaign were ignorant of Germanic history and traditions. The family member was a little shocked by the report we showed him and assured us he would be showing Mr Hitzfeld our story "

well I have done my bit (one of the wonders of being half geordie half German).

Goodbye Mr Hitzfeld pet

So who are the most friendly, passionate and hospitable football fans in the world? Hamburg FC? Inter Milan? our very own Loerrach City? no, the fans of Newcastle United in England are very much the highest in this respect. Newcastle United fans or the Toon army are known to many the world over as being the club that threw away the English Premier League championship. The team which includes Alan Shearer and Michael Owen are now managerless following the ending of manager Graeme Souness reign.

And who do the Newcastle fans want as the new manager? our very own Ottmar Hitzfeld that is who, fans have created a website and mobilised into a campaign to force the Newcastle Chairman Frederick Shepherd to offer Ottmar the role. www.hitzfeldforthetoon has been created by Newcastle fans Chris, Phil and Lee to document the progress of the campaign.

I interviewed Chris for Loerrach-Zeitung and here is the results.

Would Newcastle fans be happy with a German managing the English club?

Nationality is of no importance whatsoever. For example, if Hitzfeld became Newcastle's manager and won a trophy, he would be given the freedom of the City and would become an adopted Geordie - the highest honour we as people could hand to someone. Newcastle also have many fans based in Germany and indeed Newcastle is the second club of many Germans because of Kevin Keegan. For us, we don't see Ottmar Hitzfeld as a German, but a great manager, a great person and someone we would dearly love to become the manager of our club.

Germans have a reputation throughout the world as being a nation who love to plan down the finest detail and over Engineering things. The reputation is that a German will do something which is actually much better than required to complete the task. We feel that certain things within our club are possibly below the standard to compete at the top and we feel that Ottmar would come in and recognise this and go about putting it right. As fans we would really like a manager to come up with a plan and work to it rather than just coming in and accepting whatever happens, happens. We don't want a manager to come to the club and make false, unrealistic promises.

Clearly Ottmar will only return to a management-role if he can be at the top of the football, as he is an ambitious person. Do you feel that Newcastle United could be able to meet his wishes?

We like to think so, we have the second largest stadium in England and we are the 11th richest club in world football based on financial income. 53,000 fans turn up every home game and we also have a very good squad, with world-class players like Michael Owen still in their prime. Only one or two clubs in England can compete with Newcastle for players and none have as much untapped potential. We are like a sleeping giant just waiting to be awoken. Kevin Keegan almost did it, the man who eventually does, will be considered a god amongst men. Bringing success to Newcastle would be the ultimate challenge and require the abilities of someone special - someone like Ottmar Hitzfeld, that is why we would like him to become our manager because we believe he can bring success to our club more than any other manager.

The Newcastle chairman has been heard as saying that your campaign was a plan to win big in betting competitions what do you say back at this?

We were very disappointed by this but he has since denied making those comments and we believe him as he was very quick to deny them. We have had contact with our Chairman and while he hasn't said much, he has said that he is pleased fans are doing something positive for the good of Newcastle United. We have had direct contact with Mr Shepherd and he has said "Let me make it perfectly clear, any genuine fan/supporter can promote any person they think fit to take on the NUFC Manager's job. I have no problem with your efforts at all". That is a direct quote in reply to an e-mail that we sent him, we have had contact and only mention this to you as we feel that he would have no problem with us letting this be known. The local media also carried quotes from Mr Shepherd denying that he had ever spoken to the journalist who first broke the story.

What has been the reaction of football-fans in Newcastle and otherwhere on your campaign? (Positive, minus?)

We feel that very few people have a negative view to what we have done so far. Some people think that we are wasting our time and that may be true, we would much rather try and fail than not try at all. Supporters of other clubs are quite impressed with what we have done and that includes a lot of Bayern Munich fans who first though we had no chance of getting him. They have since looked at our club in more detail and feel that we have a better chance than they first thought. A lot of German fans seem to think we have honoured Ottmar with the work we have done and that is good, we've come across in a positive way. Basically we seem to have had a positive reaction by most and the negative is that some people feel that we have no chance of getting him so have aims too high.

Why should Ottmar wish to live in Newcastle? Is this a pretty place to live? What can he and his family be expecting to find there?

We feel our area has so much to offer to the Hitzfeld family that they would love it. We've got golden beaches within 15 minutes drive from the football ground. We've got thousands of miles of countryside for Ottmar to explore and we know he likes his walks. We're within easy reach of some of the most famous golf courses in the world, another selling point for Ottmar. If Ottmar was to become our manager then it would be like a working holiday for him as the region has so much to offer, both old and modern. Think of something and our region will have it on offer somewhere.

Would you as English fans wish for Germany to win the WC instead of England, if that means Ottmar can become trainer at Newcastle?

In all honesty, yes.

While being very proud of the fact that foreign fans are aware of our very own Ottmar, this newspaper is also a little worried at the thought of how Mr Hitzfeld would be treat within an English team, all of our readers will be more than aware of the reputation of English football hooligans and how Newcastle United fans in particular treat their managers when times are not so good is available for the world to see on the fans very own website www.newcastle-online.com. The levels of abuse that is still being directed at the former manager Graeme Souness and even current Newcastle United players makes this newspaper reporter worried at how the Hitzfeld family will be accepted and treat. The fact that a spokespersons for the campaign is willing to be photographed draped in a German flag when it is common knowledge of the disrespect that this act causes to all respectable German families causes us great pain.

Chris himself felt no disrespect was caused by being photographed lying outside St James Park on a towel clearly mimicking the Germanic joke about sunbeds so what makes us believe that Mr Hitzfeld would be treat with respect and admiration that these people say he will.

Mr Hitzfeld however does not share the concerns of this reporter, I spoke to a member of the Hitzfeld family who confirmed that Newcastle United had been in contact with Ottmar, he would not be drawn on how negotiations had progressed he did state that Ottmar was interested and had not given an answer. We however passed on the documentation we had and the way in which the people of the campaign were ignorant of Germanic history and traditions. The family member

was a little shocked by the report we showed him and told us he would be showing Mr Hitzfeld our story urgently.

While wishing all the good fans of Newcastle United all the successes possible we personally hope that it is carried out without Mr Hitzfeld and his family for wish we hope a safe and secure future far away from the North East of England.

Not my work Pud mate, I just answer e-mails and delegate, or put people off with my annoying posting style or dictator type ramblings

The lads who set up the Hitzfeld site and those that run it as well as one or two from N.O, it's their work mainly, that and everyone who has contributed, regardless of how small or how much.

The biggest thing I've been able to bring to the table is a few contacts and the traffic/exposure from N.O and that was already in place anyway (traffic/exposure).

We've all contributed man, just by keeping it alive on boards like this one and wors.

It was a hoax. Nice one, take the piss out of all the fans who want a decent manager. Thanks for that.

PS - directed at those who did it, rather than the entire board.
