Bramble eyes new contract

Titus Bramble is hoping to be celebrating two new contracts at Newcastle this summer - one for him, and one for his new mentor.

The much-maligned centre- half wants to round off an injury-plagued season in style today to boost his hopes of extending his Tyneside tenure.

And Bramble wants Glenn Roeder - the man he credits for his impressive current form - to win his bid for the permanent United manager's job.

Although his current deal does not expire until the end of next season, Bramble is keen to secure his future at St James's within the next few months.

And he hails Roeder as the main influence behind his recent rock-solid performances at the heart of the defence.

"I have a year left on my contract, and there have been no negotiations yet," says Bramble. "But of course I want to stay. This is a massive club and I hope talks start soon about a new deal."

On Roeder, Bramble said: "He has done specialist work on the back four and you can see the benefits. He does drills with us and concentrates on the team shape.

"It helps he was a centre-half. He played in that position for many years and it is beneficial for us. And overall, he has done fantastic.

"He has steadied the ship and has taken us forward."

Roeder is hoping that United's fellow Premiership clubs will allow him permission to take the manager's job full-time after the Premier League blocked his appointment.

"It was disappointing to hear about that. But fingers crossed there are ways around that and he can take the job," added Bramble.

"He has come in, done very well and I don't see why he shouldn't get the chance."

And with Roeder at the helm, Bramble is convinced that Newcastle can soon join today's opponents back at the top table of European football.

"A club of our size we should be trying to get into the Champions League on the final day of the season. We should be looking to get at least fourth spot."

But his more immediate aims are simple.

"I want an injury-free season next year," he admits.

"I feel fit now and I've done well recently. I don't want the season to end."

He has done well recently. For over a year now to be fair.

Funny how opposing fans still rip him for being shite, but he's come a long way since the player he was 3-4 season ago.

If he gets a new contract we need to remind him that no other club in the PL would have him, therefore it wants to be significantly less than the one he's on, 1/2 i say, he's had his pay day out of this club.

It's very easy to remember players on their reputation from previously. I reckon though if he stays consistent for another season, people will notice the improvement.

He's been good for a long while now but fans like the lazy media stick with the sterotypical image of him ignoring what he actually does.

And when he has the right partner (which Moore seems to have been) he is an asset.

Next season we need Titus, Taylor, Moore and another CB signed in place of Boumsong.

Had another good game today, and what a fucking finish!  Nearly took the net off. :quotes:

I think he also startedit all off by making a great tackle near our box and coming out with the ball which ultimately lead to the corner not long after.

I think the club are in the eviable position of being able to dictate the terms to the player- he won't get a better deal anywhere else. I see Bramble as a third centre half (as in reserve, not 5-3-2!) with Taylor and Mr Newplayer as the first-choice pairing.

I hope we dont wheel out a long-term contract on huge wages. Two years would be sensible.
