After we get turned over by Reading tonight, there will be a feeding frenzy in the press linking Allardyce to the job as Roeder teaters towards the sack.

They are bloody desperate. Leeds chief executive Shaun Harvey has urged would-be investors to prove they have the funds in place to help them bounce back to the Championship. Leeds were all but relegated to League One on Saturday and the club's second relegation in three years could lead to serious financial implications. Harvey said: "Anyone interested should contact us with full details of who they are and proof of funds. "We will continue to decline to comment on speculation." A Leeds spokesman denied a board meeting took place on Monday to discuss the club's future. The club will be relegated on Sunday unless they score a hatful of goals to beat Derby and Hull City lose at home to Plymouth. In a statement on the club website, Harvey added: "It is important that we take time to reflect on all the factors that have seen us relegated, barring a miracle at Derby next week. "We need to make considered and structured decisions, both on and off the field, over the forthcoming weeks to position ourselves to use next season as a springboard to go forward from. "There is no point in looking back as we cannot change the past. What we need to do is positively affect the future to get this great club back to where it should be so we can all be proud of the club again." Meanwhile, chairman Ken Bates has given his backing to manager Dennis Wise, despite the expected drop into the third tier of English football. Wise took over as boss from Kevin Blackwell in October but was unable to halt the club's dip in form. Bates told the Yorkshire Post: "Dennis has done a much better job than many people realise. "We were in a much worse position when Dennis came in than people know about. "Some of the difficulties he inherited cannot be made public but there were real problems in the dressing room. The playing side was in complete disarray."

Glenn Roeder has been assured he WILL be manager of Newcastle United next season. And this despite headlines today sugesting that Sam Allardyce, who resigned as manager of Bolton Wanderers yesterday afternoon, was on his way to St James' Park. There was talk in football last week that Roeder was going to be shown the door by United at the end of the season. As a result the Chronicle put the question to United's Press office - and the answer was that this was not the case. As revealed in the Chronicle, Freddy Shepherd made a surprise visit to the United training ground on Friday to talk over next season's transfer targets with Roeder. And the word from the training ground is that Roeder was given assurances from his chairman that he will still be in charge next season. Shepherd distanced himself from the speculation about Allardyce today, saying that whatever had happened at another football club has got nothing to do with United. Allardyce was actually offered the job at St James' Park after Shepherd sacked Sir Bobby Robson in August 2004 but, along with his pal Steve Bruce, he turned it down. That's why, when Graeme Souness was sacked last February, neither Allardyce nor Bruce were considered as his successor and the job went to Roeder after he took United into Europe from nowhere and ended the season as the highest placed English manager in the Premiership. A lot of the talk yesterday was that Allardyce was on his way to Manchester City - the team I understood he supported as a boy. This was based on the fact that he is a big pal of former United defender Ray Ranson, who has a bid in to take over City - another of his former clubs. But Ranson rang me yesterday to say that he has not spoken to Allardyce for around 18 months. A key point in the future of Allardyce is that fact that he has already resigned from Bolton, and this means that any club which wants to appoint him for the start of next season will not have to pay the Wanderers chairman Phil Garside any compensation. The last thing Roeder wanted was to read headlines that Allardyce was replacing him at St James' Park, and he had every right to feel aggrieved. Roeder is not popular with the North West group of managers with Allardyce, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Wigan's Paul Jewel all on record 12 months ago saying that he should not be allowed to manage United because he did not have the Pro-Licence - even though none of them have it. Then Ferguson was quoted as saying he was going to give Allardyce a hug and a kiss after Bolton picked up a draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. But there was no such message from Sir Alex to Roeder after United's draw with Chelsea last Sunday.

Wow thats one hell of coincedence Craig, but I'm sure the last thing your mum would want to do is distress your kids.

I don't doubt you'll have plenty to spend, but the bigger question is who can you attract ? No doubt there will be domestic players that would play for Roy Keane but how far does his appeal stretch ?

Five-star PSV snatch Dutch crown PSV Eindhoven crushed Vitesse Arnhem 5-1 on the final day of the season to snatch the Dutch league championship from Ajax and AZ Alkmaar. Ronald Koeman's team finished on 75 points with a goal difference of plus 50, one better than Ajax, who ended the season with a 2-0 win at Willem II. AZ Alkmaar, who led the table with one game left, finished with 10 men as they went down 3-2 at Excelsior Rotterdam. PSV's third consecutive title puts them straight into the Champions League.

2001: A Space Odyssey What a pile of pretentious horse manure, undoubtedly groundbreaking in terms of effects etc, but what a fucking turkey of a film, I was able to "watch" the majority of the film at speed thanks to SKY+ and missed nothing, due to the dire slow pace and lack of dialog.

Gartside was just on SSN, he say's he's known for 2 weeks, Bolton have a pressconference tomorrow at 11am, I don't suspect that we'll hear anything other than Sammy Lee will be caretaker, but you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that there is something more to it than Allardyce needing a break.
-
MAJOR MOVES August: David Connolly, Liam Miller, Graham Kavanagh, Ross Wallace, Dwight Yorke, Stanislav Varga January: Carlos Edwards, Anthony Stokes, Stern John, Danny Simpson (loan), Jonny Evans (loan)
-
He'd taken Bolton as far as he could in my opinion, the timing seems strange but I'm not surprised he has left.
-
Just goes to show what difference a good manager can make to a poor team, but credit where credit is due, he's done fantastically well.
-
rag and bone men.
-
I think he's still desperatly wanting the England job, McClaren getting the sack is just a matter of time, would it be wise taking Allardyce for him to just leave ?
-
What happened to Glenn's boot camp idea? I hope you aren't suggesting Roeder talks shit ?
