Roeder cool on strike duo return Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder says he will not rush Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi into a return for the reserves against Manchester United on Wednesday. The strike duo are both back in training after serious injuries but Roeder has no intention of being hasty. "Owen won't play in the reserves and neither will Ameobi," Roeder said. "But they are back on the training ground and playing football. "Both are doing well but it's a long way from Premiership football." Owen is targeting a return to action this season after making a good recovery from surgery on a cruciate knee ligament. "We've not put a date on when Owen will return simply because he is a world-class footballer and he is of interest to world football," said Roeder. "If he doesn't make that date hysteria breaks out and there is no need to. "He will continue his build up in training this week, as will Shola. "It didn't seem the right thing to do playing him in the reserves. There would have been too much interest."

Seeing how Warnock described them and then seeing the clips I can only conclude he was mistakingly watching a different game. Exactly, I fail to see what was scrappy about the first one. A good cross, good measured knock down from Milner, and a nice first time volley from Martins. Lawrenson can fuck off as well, saying on MOTD that they were basically gifts. If Man U had scored it, it would be 'brilliant'. It would have been a jizz-fest if Rooney had scored it. -

To be fair, that's exactly what's happened with Duff. Also, Roeder didn't say 2-3 months. He said 'a few games.' Why don't you fuck off with your support of Roeder just because no one else is, you just love being an individual. I love the way he says injuries aren't an excuse and then spends half the interview talking about them. And Duff was playing shite before any injury. He's not showing support. He's merely stating facts. I think you'll find that they're facts that support Roeder and make a mockery of my post, it won't be tolerated. You're, errrr, admitting that they're facts, and that I made your post look stupid, then? Temper, temper. My comment about 2-3 months was indeed factually incorrect which I have admitted, Still doesn't excuse your defence of Roeder which you use to give yourself a reputation as the only Roeder supporter on the board. You're wrong again. If you knew what you were talking about, you'll see that the last time I talked about my own feelings on Roeder, I admitted how disappointed I was. If I defend him, it's simply against criticism like yours, which was based entirely- for want of a better word- on fictitious suppositions. On the other hand, I find it galling that you can't deal properly with the notion that I may have my own opinion, which- just because it differs to the majority- you ascribe simply to attention-seeking. Don't you see how intolerant, and ignorant this makes you seem? If you're going to throw a paddy and get your knickers in a twist every time someone has an opinion differing to yours, then once you get into the real world, you're fucked. Regarding the last statement, I think you're as bad as eachother. -
Didn't Roedent get West Ham relegated on 41 points ?

Crap stoppage by the ref, far too early, should have given Manfredo a standing 8 count.

"If people are honest with themselves they did not expect that to happen today. "I believe it was only inside our dressing room that we believed we could come here and win. "People have looked at us and thought, at times away from home, we're not hard enough. That gave them the motivation to come out fighting." -

Nope, other than "I resign" there is nothing I want to hear the bloke say. -
Focused Calzaghe ready to dazzle Peter Manfredo Jr's hopes that Joe Calzaghe was looking past him seemed to be scuppered as the Welshman weighed in bang on the mark for Saturday's bout. The WBO super middleweight champion had an anxious look at the scales before coming in a quarter of a pound under the 12st limit, Manfredo at 11st 12lbs. Calzaghe is making the 20th defence of the title he has held since 1997 against the former reality TV star. A 35,000 Millennium Stadium crowd will watch, with a huge worldwide audience. With the Cardiff stadium's roof closed, it will be the biggest ever indoor boxing event in Europe, and the largest worldwide since the return fight between Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks at the New Orleans Superdome in September 1978. "I've been through years of frustration not getting the big fights, now I've got that recognition," said Welshman Calzaghe, 35, who holds a record of 42-0 (31 KOs), and will be equalling the number of defences made by Larry Holmes and Bernard Hopkins. "If you can't get motivated to fight in front of 35,000 people, there is something wrong with you. "There is still a lot of fire inside me. My book is not written yet and there is so much I still believe I can achieve. "I have given Peter respect by getting into the best shape I have ever been in." Should Calzaghe win impressively, a summer unification fight with Denmark's undefeated WBC and WBA champion Mikkel Kessler seems to have the backing of US TV money, but Manfredo insists he should not be overlooked. The Rhode Islander, 26, holds a record of 26-3 (12 KOs), with impressive third-round stoppages of Joe Spina and Scott Pemberton in his last two fights. But he is most famous for being the runner-up in the first US series of boxing reality TV show 'The Contender', and will be a huge underdog against Calzaghe. "I have not spent 12 weeks away from my family to come here and be an opponent," said the challenger. "I am here to be champion and I am not afraid of Joe or his reputation. "I'm excited about the fight on Saturday night and I am convinced it is going to be my night. "I am going to be the champion - and that's the mind I am going to have until Joe defeats me - if he does." Ring legend Sugar Ray Leonard, offering advice to the Manfredo corner after introducing him to the world through 'The Contender', insisted Calzaghe is a future member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. "Win, lose or draw on Saturday and Calzaghe will be in the Hall of Fame, he is a true warrior," Leonard told BBC Radio Wales' 'Back Page' programme. "His fame will rocket in the States after this thanks to Peter's celebrity. "But I'm an optimist and I think that Peter can win. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him and I can see in his eyes the eye of the tiger."
