  1. Some of those were very well received at the time. Owen is being discussed and is obviously among them. Some people thought Paul Dalglish was OK, and quite a lot of people were more than happy with Ketsbaia. Tomasson went on to play for AC Milan and personally I think if he had played alongside Shearer rather than the ambling waste of space Asprilla who just got on with his own game spending half the time on a different planet, his career here would have gone competely different to what it did. But Ferguson, you are joking right ? He was one of the best strikers in the premiership ? Those marked in bold in particular. And Cort was a top emerging talent at the time, certainly the pick of the crop at Wimbledon. I was just as excited at his signing, as the case when we signed Bellamy. Both were top performers amidst very average playing lists. In relation to raw ability & productivity levels, both were standouts. Cort is often very harshly judged, as a 'shit signing', to beat up the previous regime/Shepherd etc. Injuries curtailed his career here, and post NUFC as well. Hindsight is a beautiful thing. In fact Cort [going by the current transfer policy] is the sort of signing expected from the current regime ie. young talent brought in, to be improved, before being moved on for a profit.
  2. A big reason as to why i believe the team is running on fumes now ie. picking up points at the tail end of the season. The win against Wolves was a godsend, along with earlier & unexpected points gains at Everton & Arsenal. There are some players [notably Enrique] who have done enough already over a large part of the campaign, to secure beneficial moves elsewhere - particularly in big games against strong opposition. Enrique has acclimatised to the pace & flow of top flight football, and his performances up until the final straight have reflected this, especially as a lock-down specialist who is capable of shutting down the opposition's attacking forays on his flank. Enrique is a pillar of strength, as per the above - the best in Europe imo. Some indifferent performances, at the tail end of the season for a club with no ambition whose recent & accompanying behaviour has probably demotivated & deflated some players, doesn't spoil his efforts & productivity and likewise it won't scare off suitors like Liverpool. Enrique has earnt a move away, on the strength of his overall season display - prior to his recent injury spell. His post-NUFC career imo has been sorted, and he's going through the motions now.
  3. Add a top winger into the mix [to compliment the potential or likely purchase of Enrique], along the lines of Elia providing their interest in the said winger is reignited, and Liverpool have the left flank pretty much locked down. The left side has been a problem area for them, in both facets of the game - in attack & defense. The rebuilding process, with the intention/ambition of regaining the club's CL status, is looking good for them.
  4. Football has become over sanitised, thanks to the efforts of the Political Correctness Police out there. Administrators react to public outcry, and legislate accordingly. It's a shame. Football is an emotional game, and emotions naturally boil over in the heat of the moment on the players' part, and the outlet happens to be the 'f-bomb' etc. Mountain being made out of a mole hill springs to mind here, much like when Bellamy was 'caught out' on live television after dropping a couple of bombs when he was substituted by Souness. Of course many a supporter/fans cried out that the said player had embarassed the club etc. Kids hear much worse in the school playgrounds. The advances made in live coverage [via technology] have encroached into the players' domain. That domain being the heat of battle out on the paddock, and many believe that they should behave like saints accordingly. Football watchers can't have it all their own way, they expect to be right there in the guts of the game [as close as possible] yet they complain when things get a little too close [or heated] for comfort.

  6. I think the team is running on petrol fumes at the moment - i wish the campaign had wrapped up now tbh. The form line is worrying. Hopefully the teams below us, whom one poster has so ignorantly dismissed as potential threats, fail to make make sizeable gains on us during Tiote's upcoming absence. The management upheaval [concerning Hughton, who earned the respect of the dressing room] earlier in the season coupled with the events of the Jan transfer window, there has to be feeling among senior & in-demand players that they have been sold down the river by the current club ownership - it has to take it's toll eventually, on what was a unified & committed 1st team. There are some players in the current set-up who have done enough [over the course of the campaign already] to secure moves to more ambitious clubs next season, hence the club's premiership survival may not be at the top of their agenda. Hopefully we've banked enough points already. Unexpected gains [ie. at Arsenal, under Hughton] could well be our saving grace.
  7. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/20...abt.html#286656 ....... in particular Warnock being prepared to build a system around him, covering up his flaws in the process while maximising his strengths. But it's the mindset of the manager, of prepared to accept & forgive particular weakness', which stands out in this instance. This handling of a player, who is an instinctive all-out creative type, is the antithesis of the approach once adopted by Souness. The said manager would try to beat whatever weakness' a player had out of them [particularly creative talents], and at times would use the press as his voice to bash a player. There was no middle ground in Souness' eyes. It probably relates to Souness once being a wonderfully balanced offensive & defensive midfielder himself, and as such views himself as 'the' prototype or the yardstick as to whether his chargers cut the mustard out on the paddock, there was no room for compromise. Prominent examples being Dunn & Robert. Robson accepted that the later was rarely going to provide a physical presence in the defensive half, but his unpredictable brilliance on the ball more than countered his flaws as a player & his enigmatic personality. Robert's attacking presence [which provided the team with true left-to-right balance, when complimenting Solano on the right] in relation to the overall structure of the team was more important than nit-picking any failings. Dunn, in his early years at Blackburn, has arguably been the most gifted creative midfielder to grace Souness later years in the management game. I remember him being an instinctive & wildly skillful [although not pacey] playmaker, with the necessary vision to compliment his passing range & technical prowess. He was a top-drawer talent back then, and 20m figures were mentioned back then. I think it was season 2002/03 when he sunk us with a in the second half long-range strike, to cap off a MOM performance - he dictated the pace & flow of the game from the centre of the park, pulled all the strings. And i remember Souness post match assessment, of Dunn. "He needs to do alot more defensively" and the insinuation that he wasn't hard enough etc, was the overall message conveyed by Souness. Of course he would later try and beat the flair out of Dunn, in an attempt to create a more balanced central midfielder, and Dunn didn't have the physical tools [or the application] to comply with the blueprint layed out by the manager, and found himself relegated to long stints on the bench. The man prematurely destroyed and demotivated a purely creative talent, a pure ball-playing footballer - a criminal offence given that such players are seldom produced with the sort regularity as seen in Spain. Blackburn supporters still haven't forgiven Souness' handling of Dunn, and the mentioning of it opens old wounds. Of course the step-up in divisions will be the true yardstick, as to whether the Tarabaat gamble will pay off. Robert was surrounded with better players [and Bellamy's left-to-right defensive workrate can never be discounted] to accomodate him, in a looser formation when sitting back in defense when compared QPR's interchangeable set-up, which adjusts from attack to defensive with of course two deep sitting midfielders. Nonetheless it's first class management on Warnock's part. Unlike Stoke , they'll have a crack at it while playing football, and thus will be a welcome addition to the top flight.
  8. A basic mathematics formula [to calculate lifetime earnings before retirement] isn't purely black & white, in a profession as volatile & unpredictable as the football management caper, and this probably relates to other high-risk & unpredictable professions as well. Of course speculation factors in, as per the eventual figure claimed. Offshoot business ventures arise [ie. the public speaking circuit, and Soccer Circus type of ventures] within the game, but does this equate to the sort of figure claimed by KK and his advisors in the life-time earnings claim. It was horribly optimistic on the part of KK's advisors, he was badly advised as touched on earlier, and as you're probably aware there's alot of brinksmanship & bluffing that goes on in damages claims - hoping that the defendant's resolve will falter, while ultimately settling out of court for a smaller figure. For Keegan's lifetime claim [for that amount] to be successful the tribunal would have needed to buy into the belief that KK was still a highly motivated & 'current' career manager, it must enter into the equation. Was he going to jump into another lucrative mangement post, was the NUFC post the only one he'd make another return to the caper for etc. Given the the length of KK's previous hiatus from the trade, and the man's character itself [who has fallen out of love with the profession before, due to boardroom politics etc] there must be doubts. I think Ashley's advisors bought into the latter and refused to settle accordingly. On this basis KK's claim [as per lifetime earnings] was compromised . It was a foolhardy bluff and based on Keegan's probable career outlook at the time, Ashley's advisors called it correctly and opted to take their chances. Rewind the clock fifteen years, with a younger career manager [in Keegan] as a claimant, and a claim for that sort of amount gains alot of credibilty.
  9. I don't give two shits about AshleyShitstain's opinions, as i'm not onto him like a swarm of flies on to a pile of shit. I disagree with many of Toonpack's viewpoints, but he chooses to discuss the topic at hand, and i duly oblige. There's no jumping into threads on his part [with off-topic WUM postings] simply based on the poster involved, like a bloody stalker. BTW i've addressed this so-called internet warrior attitude via PM - you may receive a copy. Briefly touching on what i said though, within an in-person environment [lets say at the pub, a sport/football club environment] naive wum-like arseholes were dealt with mate, especially the younger ones.... especially if they played the mouthy smart-arse routine by jumping into a conversations with an off-topic remarks, looking for a response. If you want to advocate & defend the practice of obsessive stalking [and off-topic WUM'ing] then you've laid down a tablet that will lead to the forum going downhill fast, as you give obsessive arseholes a free platform to ply their trade. This is what exactly occurred on that other forum [ie. N-O] as the ASMs become plentiful, and others simply buggered off. Let the democratic process play out, consider it a referendum of sorts ............. afterall there's 50 quid in it for the site, if ASM has agreed do it.
  10. Didn't you post the exact same thread about me and you last year Regardless of if he stays or goes ASM is still a tart though he won't go if he lost, he didn't go through with it last time. Anyway, it seems Toonpack is hell bent on replacing him Stevie, I'm not go back through pages and quote your post. Re: the last bit in your post To loosely insinuate that only he [out of the two of us] loves the toon, you're off the mark mate. Saw enough shit in the late 80's [when the likes of the Bald Eagle were hung out to dry by the board/s of the day] before my immediate family moved overseas and i won't get into a cliched soopafan debate with you. If your equation of 'love for the toon' & maybe their relevance to the forum relates to current match-going status, and i only attend matches on an away basis [annual at best] based on previous work opportunities over the years & family commitments which happen to pop up from time-to-time, then not many members have chance at so-called legitimacy, as far as being able to label themselves as a 'supporter', or a 'fan' at the very least. They're simply guests of convenience then, a sub-species of sorts. By all means introduce the general knowledge test into the equation before membership is granted, with a slightly greater weighting afforded to geographic locale/IP addresses etc. Hopefully i've misjudged you in this instance, and have taken what you have said out of context, as i generally think you're better than that - given that as an attendee of non-Toon matches you're aware of the costs involved, travelling from continent to continent, diverting from a schedule to catch a game on the spur of the moment. More pertinent, and away from the travel related issue, because in the past you've placed some value on intelligent based football discussion, with a leaning against oxygen sucking WUM posts contributed by arseholes who suck oxygen out of threads.
  11. I haven't read through the previous three or so pages, but it's okay to PM the site's paypal details & commence the poll.
  12. Lawyers have a habit of speculating high, although realistically they [plaintiff & lawyer] know the chances of winning that quoted figure [whether by out-of-court settlement, or tribunal/court ruling] are slim to zero. A so-called speculative figure only serves the purpose of preventing any lower-end monies awarded from bottoming out. A common legal tactic. Special ASM related announcement: fu**in apology offered for using two brackets. Talking utter shite. The claims are based on Keegan's income with the club. The constructive dismissal claim, as in most cases, is based on lost income across the full contract and the full life-time earnings of the claimant. This is a court of law, not a negotiating table. Each figure claimed is precisely based on two variables, length of time and earnings per unit of time. "They went high as a negotiating tactic" is absolute nonsense. It is typical in all constructive dismissal cases to sue for life-time earnings if the nature of the claim threatens the claimants future in the industry.[/b] The judge ruled that KK was right to claim for contractual compensation but rejected the life time claim. The two judgements are made independently and figures in one claim have no influence on the type of justice handed out in another. To insinuate that the judge would be swayed by the high end of the claim to at least award a smaller amount more in line with what the claimant wants is perhaps the most specious argument i've seen on any toon board in the last 5 years. It's not a direct negotiating tactic, and the life-time earnings claim/figure is a speculative one to begin with. In the case of Keegan's advisors it was a remotely hopeful claim. To put my original post into context. It's a figure used [to find middle ground, particularly as a basis for an out-of-court settlement] if the defendant's legal advisers get a feel as to the direction the case is heading, based on the evidence presented and as such they'll advise their client to try and settle, with middle ground or low-end scale type of offer. Speculate lower, and the defendants will settle for less, based on what has been mentioned in the previous paragraph. Credit has to go to Ashley/The Club's legal team in this instance, they stuck to their guns & didn't fold as they took on board KK's propensity [based on principles] to fall out of love with football & most likely gambled that his capacity for future earnings [at least in the management game] were just about next to zero. They speculated this could possibly factor into the judges eventual ruling re: as to actually ruling in favour of the life time claim, not the amount to be awarded which has to be followed to the letter of law in accordance to the amount claimed as you say. Ashley & Dekka's legal were confronting a jaded Keegan, a manager who this time looked as though he had well & truly jacked it in, a comeback to the management game looks unlikely. They rolled the dice, refused to settle as their team obviously felt they had a strong case in relation to the 'life-time' claim, and it payed off. Perhaps you should re-evaluate that final line mate.
  13. You're more than welcome to vote accordingly, if the poll goes ahead as per the Spongebob/ASM one. Follow the democratic process. By myself & ASM's mutual observation & assessments of one another the forum will be better off with either one gone. I've placed my cards on the table, it's up to him follow suit as per the above mentioned/Spongebob poll. ...... of course there's the option of simply petitioning for a ban, and bombard the MODs' respective PM boxes if you feel that strongly about it
  14. Most likely scouting for potential drive-by or ambush locations, because 'he is down with the hood'.
  15. Does the MLS [or the LA Galaxy to be more specific] have a feeder club in Compton? There has to be question mark hanging over his commitment & discipline at the moment - he's living on borrowed time. The acquisition of Ranger was & possibly still is worth the risk. His ceiling of potential/improvement balances out any personalty quirks, under the proviso that the commitment to training etc is up to scratch. Offiong was in a similar bracket, in comparison to kids around the same age group. Big talent, and by many accounts [at Under17 and 19 levels] a more naturally gifted footballer than the hard working & dedicated Chopra. Of course he then disappeared off the radar. I later read quotes [can't remember the manager in question, possibly relating to his spell/s at Darlington] about him, and 'loads of ability, but the matching & needed dedication & drive were both missing' seemed to be the consensus given. This was a lad, who going by early reports, i wanted to see break through into the 1st team picture. Ranger is fast heading down the same path.
  16. Not really a fair bet then is it? You dont have much to lose. Seriously though, this sort of macho warrior stuff, whoever suggests it is stupid. We all have the right to ignore people, not get involved or find another forum. Personally I find everyone brings something to the forum (apart from the scouse prick). Some I dont really like but can still take amusement from some of their posts. Sometimes it just takes time for posters to mature. Kevin is a perfect example of someone who has gone from an irritating twat into a canny little poster at times and keeps the place jogging along. As too with ASM, I do get the feeling he is trying to bring a bit more to the table these days than just the Leazes stuff. And lets face it, there's plenty of other posters who get dragged into the Leazes circus. This place needs more posters not less. I find the vast majority of contributions to be intelligent & others to be amusing diversions, but for the most part i don't get involved in the so-called quoting pyramids, especially by attempting to solicit a bite by spamming other members' postings with non-topic related bandwidth wastage. ASM is mostly a throwback to the standards set on N-O/Kiddies-Online. Although i'm not a prolific poster, as stated, i do generally enjoy contibuting - hence i'm willing to place my membership on the line, of course there's something to lose on my part. But i don't spend hours loitering in the shadows here, obsessively waiting for particular posters to log on & spam accordingly. I can appropriate what little time i do spend online elsewhere, timewise [to put it more accurately] it's no skin peeled from my nose. As for the poll itself CT, perhaps you can run a poll 'to start the poll'
  17. Exactly, but read Carroll sentence he's an absolute knacker. If I was Ashley I'd be furious with him, it exposes just how dense they are. The evidence was there before anyway....the yank at Liverpool let the cat out of the bag by saying "the price for Torres was dependant on what Newcastle wanted for Carroll" and Torres stuck his transfer request in around 20th of January, plenty of time for us to line up someone better than Shefki fuckin Kuqi. But as you say, he probably doesnt realise he's just confirmed it with that pile of bollocks. I think KK is spot on, it'll be free transfers, unknown foreigners (will we get lucky twice? doubt it...) and out of contract crocks for us this summer. Considering the fact they only knew about Tiote because Keegan had Hughton scout him a couple of years ago, we better hope they still have their hands on Keegans old transfer targets lists. Keegan, or better put KK's ability to spot a player/potential, has left this club [Ashley & his sidekick Dekka] with quite a legacy, for Ashley & Dekka's all-important balance sheets - the balance sheets [a state of having no operating debt] which have overridden ambition & the overall product delivered out on the pitch. Bassong [10m, or thereabouts] in addition to what they'll recoup when Tiote [15m minimum] realises his football related ambitions are best achieved elsewhere, after his head is turned also. 25m as a starting figure, that's quite a legacy.
  18. Going by Suarez' display this morning, as a creative supplier of chances in the mould of Bellamy, a Carroll/Suarez partnership doesn't bode well for opposing defensive rearguards. I likened him to Bellamy a while back: technically as good as CB, harbors an aggressive streak, but is more instinctive & generally a more predatory/clinical finisher than CB, and that's quite a statement given that Bellamy worked very hard on this aspect of his game and this was painfully apparent post-NUFC after being exiled from the club via Souness' ego, dating back to his loan spell in Scotland. Probably earlier than that tbh ie. during the early stages of 04/05, prior to Souness' 'supposedly' legitimate & tactical substitution of Bellamy. I liked what i saw of him/Suarez at the WC, apart form having Forlan alongside he excelled in what was a workmanlike, organised but otherwise pedestrian attacking midfield unit. Suarez is a top little footballer, top drawer. Given their Jan net spend was next to nothing they'll further strengthen [or upgrade] their artillery on the wings during the Summer window, at the very least. Potentially add arguably the most balanced left-back in Europe [in Enrique: a genuine defensive 'lock-down' fullback, who is really flourishing now going forward] into the mix and they're well back on track, in terms of crashing the party at the top end of the table.
  20. Don't be too offended if i have misspelled your username. Since you're into spouting about the use of spelling as a means of scoring minor points. What a pathetic little waste of bandwidth you are sunshine. Let's keep this sideshow rolling [let's say for a week...... holy shite, i've used a bracket], and with it add some closure to all this. You may fancy your chances in the case of the following, going by your assessment of my postings. Therefore I propose a poll, in the same manner of the one that featured yourself and Spongebob, which resulted in yourself being effectively slaughtered and consequently failing to bugger off. I'm more than prepared to stake my membership here, if it aids in facilitating the removal of a member who adds nothing more in value than tedious serial stalking [often with glib WUM posts unrelated to the topic at hand] when certain posters are online. As mentioned in the other post you're nothing more than professional wind-up artist, with a strong hint of forum stalker thrown into the mix - i envision a internet male equivalent of Glenn Close without the accompanying rabbit & stew pot. Due to your age may want to google check the origins of that particular reference, to Glenn Close that is. The forum will be the winner on two counts. The forum will lose one of the following, a tedious little shitstain of a stalker who sucks oxygen out of threads like nappy skidmarks do to a infant's bedroom [yourself.... shite there's another bracket], and a poster whose general contribution nobody cares about - at least going by your acute estimation. Hence this should be an interesting & closely run race, and i fully expect you to accept the challenge & conditions. In addition, as a means of stimulating maximum voter turnout, i propose that both us of us donate 25 to 50 quid to the website once voting numbers hit a peak - a figure which can be agreed upon. The moderators can send the site's direct paypal link to both of us, via PM. These are my conditions, feel free to add your own. *Poll runs for a week. *Votes are for 'ASM to bugger off', or for 'YZ to bugger off', obviously. The member who reaps in the most votes buggers off, permanently, in the form of an IP ban. If a member [let's say Stevie or Alex & others, as some are adept at sniffing out posting styles/characteristics etc.... another bracket, holy shite] detects a return, something that won't occur on my part as i stick my word, the appropriate action is taken. Unlike yourself i'm not a prolific poster here, an permanent IP ban is no skin off my nose. Your consent to this condition in particular will act as a binding agreement, which can be acted on by the Moderators here as they see fit, therefore on my part i give 'consent'. *I'm willing to further raise the stakes. The Moderators etc have permission to pass the loser's IP address to all NUFC-related forum/websites, effectively wiping any means of posting on any related websites on a permanent basis. Doesn't effect me personally, as this is the only NUFC forum that i post on at the minute, but i'm willing to wager any further desire to post if it means bringing an end to polluting other boards. Once i again i give 'consent', as per the previous bullet point. If you have any underlying guts [behind all those 'fuckins', and the general persona of a so-called forum toughguy] you'll duly rise to the challenge, and put it all on the line. If not my opinion of you will be confirmed....... a gutless little wonder [ or WUM... shite, another bracket] who stalks & attempts to solicit an appropriate bite/response, all from behind the veiled safety of a PC at home, or elsewhere. The ball is in your court sunshine.
  21. ............ you're a waste of bandwidth sunshine. Sunshine given that you like to portray yourself as something of a forum *'f*cken' hard-man with a penchant for jumping into threads with the sort of post as above, i'll make a special exception in this case hence i'm happy hitting you with a racist slur, irrespective of what is sure to be a stream of complaints & subsequent Mod action taken against me. *a pisstake out for what has to be your excited & frequent use of the aforementioned expletive, as others have suggested. I bet you've already pulled out the Kleenex tissues, hence i bolded that bit especially for you sunshine. ASM, or should i refer to you simply as a zip-eyed 'rice paddy' boy : you're an insignificant [largely knowledgeless] zip-eyed little man. Take away the reference to Ashley in your user name my summation is that you're a shit-stain on the forum, just as your idol [Ashley] is to Newcastle United FC. You belong on a forum where one could the discuss the cultivation techniques used in rice growing. That subject you should be able to lend some knowledge towards. Don't delete this post Mods. I don't quite get the rice growing references. You're a bit weird if you think I'm going to find any of that offensive, I just think you're a bit of a down syndrome patient now Mods DO NOT delete this You don't 'get' alot of things do you. Your unknowledgeable opinions of NUFC [and football in general] are of somebody who has spent some time in isolation, probably in a paddy field.......... a Buddhist hideaway perhaps. Not only are you 'football' thick, but you also can't pick up when somebody is clearly taking the piss out of you with a proverbial razorblade. Mods, DO NOT delete this
  22. Not at all. If one acts like a little arsehole [or professional WUM in ASM's case] in a deliberate attempt to solicit a response, one becomes fair game........ and chinned shortly after, if this was real-life & in-person social setting.
  23. Could see Coyle at Everton if Moyes was to go to Arsenal/Man U. I don't think Moye's tactical approach [defensively organised, but dour..... not as bad as, but not much of an upgrade over Big Sam] would lend itself to either Man Utd or Arsenal's respective boards. Question marks [re- Moyes, given that the Allardyce Experiment failed here] as whether Moyes can alter his tactical approach & footballing philosophy at a bigger or top club whose board & supporters expect winning/successful & attractive football. Allardyce wasn't able to adapt, and accordingly ditch his 'smash-mouth', physical, 'underdog team vs The World' philosophy. Admittedly this is hindsight driven, but i now harbor doubts in the case of Moyes. In contrast Coyle [with the type of technical & attractive football he is educating the lads with at Bolton] looks ready made for a big post soon, with a matching budget to work with. When referring to his recent loan move to Bolton, Sturridge is at the ideal destination at the moment, when talking about gaining further 1st team experience & exposure.
  24. ............ you're a waste of bandwidth sunshine.
