  1. Shirley there are a few rivers flowing about on the internet where a hardworking chap from Toronto, Canada who just finished shoveling the snow, can watch the game live while sipping on some warm espresso? :D

you can get "everythingontv" online these days cant you ;)

    :icon_lol:

  2. How on earth are we going to score now?? Our whole attack is predicated on a big CF through the air. Andy Carrol was the best thing that ever happened to Joey Barton. What now?

I don't believe the board one bit. They could have denied AC's transfer request until the summer window. They would have had more time to scout prospective replacements better and not waste that money on desperate buys. If they buy/loan anyone at all. :jesuswept:

  3. This is brilliant PR for the club. They would be fools to sell him now.

IF, and I say IF, they want to sell AC, summer would be the time to do it. Now that a price has been set, you'd get other big clubs involved in a price war, and you would have plenty of time to scout who to bring in to replace him. That being said, the fookers will probably sell him without a replacement. Dumb focks.

  4. While I agree that he has played well so far this season (for Joey Barton standards), I still feel he is not the guy for NUFC in the midfield going forward. So as long as they replace him in the January window with a Tiote, Ben Arfa type player (which may be a pipe dream now that Hughton is gone), I say good riddance.

  5. Farewell, farewell, Ben Arfa. You are a footballer with skill unmatched in our midfield. Now that that the man that courted you here is gone, and our owner has shown himself to you to be a nutjob, you will most certainly look elsewhere once you're contract is up. Farewell, farewell, Ben Arfa.

So does anyone else believe as I do that this is Ben Arfa's last season as a Toon in light of Chris Hughton's departure? Or are those out there that think he could stay under the right manager and circumstances?

I really think that now that he's seen Mike Ashley's true colours he is as good as gone forever, no matter who comes in to manage the squad. :drinks:

    You chat shit, don't hype.

    "I chat shit, don't hype."

Um, reading comprehension lacking just a tad?

I am merely asking if Mike Ashley's moronic decision to sack Hughton (who signed Ben Arfa), will discourage the kid from signing with us once his contract is up later this summer. I want to see Ben Arfa in black and white for a long time because we sorely need someone with his skill in the midfield, but am afraid this incident will scare him off.

  8. Very dangerous times at the moment. If the team spirit goes then so will our good players. Carroll being the first.

Not only that...what do you think Ben Arfa is thinking right about now? Does he dare come back to this certifiably nutjob of an owner?

How on earth this bloke ever made a nickel I'll never know.

  9. This is a stupid, dim, brainless, idiotic, laughable, pointless, absurd, crazy, illogical, preposterous and moronic decision by upper management.

What kind of team does MA think he has here? Yes they've lost some, and badly, but they've also overachieved in others. We are right were we want to be right after promotion. CH has made some brilliant signings in Tiote and Ben Arfa and now he gets sacked? Preposterous!

  10. Reports in France that are quoting his agent are saying he'll be back in February. He'll have an operation in Manchester tonight and go back to OM for treatment later in the week.

What a shame. If I were Chris Hughton, I'd start Ben Arfa, cast and all, 21 more games then quickly substitute him to satisfy the 25 game minimum requirement. Either that or buy him outright during next summer's transfer window. That's how important I think he and Tiote are to Newcastle's future.

  11. You can blame the manager for making selection or tactical errors but ultimately people are blaming him for not putting together a good team on peanuts. He doesn't have a leg to stand on. I'm sorry, this is the truth.

We have a team that's good enough to beat Stoke at St James'. Perch is a big weak spot that will be exploited. Williamson and Coloccini lacked the physicality in this game.

Noone blames Hughton for not having a team of superstars on massive wages but we can rightfully be concerned about the way he made changes today. it goes without saying that if a player is ineffectual they should be taken off, or if a player is influential they should be left on. Hughton's changes today went wildly against this. Nolan did nothing all game and yet stayed for the full match. Tiote was again looking good, good movement of the ball and made some nice tackles yet he was removed. Ben Arfa looked lively in attack and had them constantly worried yet he was subbed. Routledge was a headless chicken yet he stayed out there.

There's no sense to be made from those moves except to say that it indicates that Hughton is making substitutions not on the merits of the players in the individual matches, but on the influence of the players (perhaps off the pitch). He was probably justified in starting the same 11 as the Everton match, but substitutions shouldn't only be made when you're behind or even needing a goal, they should have been made earlier in the piece where we weren't making use of our dominance of possession and territory eg. bringing Nolan off and putting a forward on.

It will be interesting to see what happens in our next match. I can't see Hughton suddenly growing a set and dropping Nolan, but I can at least hope.

We play Man City next week at their place. Nolan will play off Carroll once again. Same formation most likely.

  12. What a horrible result. Did not deserve to lose that one ffs.

If Newcastle want to do anything this season, they need to have Tiote and Ben Arfa on the pitch for as long as possible. The Tiote switch was baffling to me. He's a rock back there and could have provided some calm during the last 20 minutes.

And I know a lot of you love Joey Barton, and he has played a lot better this season, but I'm telling you, they will always have trouble creating good chances along the deck if a change isn't made eventually. Perhaps moving Arfa in that role and return Jonas back to his left wing would be more constructive. Do not be fooled with that 6- love drubbing of Villa. Most of those goals came off scrambles in the box, and one that A. Carrol created himself.

But all in all, the club is building nicely since being promoted. Eventually, a good pacey striker would be a nice addition along with other additions to the club to replace those that are, imo, wrongly being adored by its supporters right now.

    Who?

Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan for one. A stronger CB that is good in the air to replace Collocini, although Collo has been pretty solid this season thus far. If the club has ambitions other than survival, these are the decisions that have to be made. But in due time. So far so good in picking up Tiote and Ben Arfa.

I dont think ANYONE on here adores Barton or Nolan for that matter.

Id say Nolan is more contempted, where as i think alot of people are giving Barton a chance to actually do a job for us, and up till now, is doing pretty well.

Agreed. Joey Barton is doing a relatively good job for us thus far. But eventually, if the club has ambitions higher than survival and mid-table, then players like Barton will have to be upgraded, imo.

    Well...

This season is all about staying up and possibly a money spilling cup run.

Next year we will look to progress and establish.

I think, more hope, that once this season is over and we are still a PL side that Nolan, Smith, Shola, Harper, Best and Perch are all moved on and replaced.

Krul, Forster, Enrique, Kadar, Coloccini, Saylor, Williamson, Raylor, Simpson, Barton, Guthrie, Gosling, Ben Arfa (If we keep him) Gutierrez and Carroll are all players who either are or could be PL players.

Right. And acquiring Tiote and Ben Arfa SHOULD solidify that goal of survival. Btw, I didn't say we need to get rid of Barton or Colocinni ( I'm butchering his name, aren't I?), they can be used in the rotation. But I suspect both of their wages are amongst the highest on the club ( someone correct me if I'm wrong), and I just don't think Barton, in the grand scheme of things, is worth it.

  16. I am really struggling to stay grounded about this kid.

As am I. The game was shown nationally here in Canada where I watched it at Gretzky's (a popular sports bar in downtown Toronto). Ben Arfa (ant Tiote) were everything I would hope they would be. So when he skipped down the middle of the box to score that screamer of a goal, I ripped off my shirt, yelled uncontrollably and rubbed my nipples with shear delight!

So you're right, I'll attempt to stay a little more on terra firma until he becomes a little more established. :)

  17. I'm waiting to be amazed but I have very little confidence in Houghton's ability to spot a good player.

Let's put it this way...he can run with the ball at his feet for more than two meters, so he is already far ahead of current crop of CM's.
