Birtley to Tynemouth is a long drag by public transport at night

i'm not sure if i stated it or not, but the Blake Morrison book was published in 1994, in the immediate aftermath of the trial. also, i believe venables & thompson were punished (as morrison states in his book) by being tried in an adult court & sent to prison, rather than an attempt at rehabilitating them. as regards breivik, i've stated several times that Norwegian cultural norms & values are at variance to ours; this is why non Norwegians may find it difficult to accept the punishment he has been given.

i see Barton's having a meltdown again.

agree 100%

Santon was poor

all he needs to do is line his pockets from a "charity testimonial" & he'll be the ideal replacement for the last horrible cunt they signed from citeh
-
as a Hibs fan, i've seen Fletcher plenty in times gone by. frankly, he's ponderous & slow of thought
-
fair play, he is the best player they've signed in my life time
-
Brilliant signing for them; is it a loan or a permanent deal?
-
i suggest you read "As If" by Blake Morrison, which is a meditation on the Bulger case & subsequent trial; it is the most eloquent advocacy of rehabilitation over retribution ever. morrison points out that the working & under classes are the biggest victims & perpetrators of crime; what does this show us? i'm not truly sure i can articulate my thoughts on it as yet. suffice to say i'm glad the ruling / professional classes run the judicial system.

Here's a few reactions from Norwegian people; interesting to see that it's only the youngest one who mentions a death penalty.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19369548 As Rolf Henning Larsen states -: "What others must understand is that the penal system in Norway is all about rehabilitation rather than punishment."
-
i totally agree with you. if we allowed victims to set the tariff for offenders, you'd see car thieves being sent to a firing squad

LBT's post at 1.23pm today alluded to the relatives having been asked
-
perhaps Norwegian society is culturally different; perhaps the families of the victims don't want revenge.
-
of course it was; as a general rule of thumb, i believe in rehabilitation, not retribution. also, the nature of society & the judicial system means that the responsibility for pursuing justice lies with the state apparatus, not the individual; which is exactly as it should be
-
it's obviously a cultural difference between Norway & Britain. to be honest, i'm more in favour of rehabilitation than punishment; any concept of revenge seems as barbaric to me as the initial act. obviously countries with medieval approaches to punishment (Saudi Arabia, Iran, the US) brook no dissension from the idea of vengeful punishment. In Norway, right wing psychopaths like Breivik commit mass murder; in Britain they post on messageboards under the moniker CabayeAye

Vasas Budapest, then Sporting Lisbon. Interestingly, when we lost to the latter in the UEFA QF in 2005, it meant that all 3 NE teams had played their last games in Europe v Sporting Lisbon, at that time.....
-
the mackems debut home tie in europe attracted a crowd of 22,762 to joker park. however, considering they only got 8,142 v Portsmouth the same season, that's not too bad is it?

Just watching a Big Match Revisited from March 83 on ITV player; Man Utd v Everton 83 & Sheedy is imperious with the passing. Lovely, diffident fella Sheedy; met him last at Anfield in 94 when we won 2-0

Mate is a Hearts fan (as a lifelong Hi-bee that's tough to say); reckons there were a load of disenfranchised ex Rangers fans there earlier on (text was at 6.15), trying to attach themselves to a different club, spreading their sectarian shite. A bit worrying as I heard of similar in Newcastle last weekend; random Unionist radgies coming over & spreading hatred by buying off daft lads with beer. hopefully I've been misinformed, but just reporting what I've heard....

Well I've had a great night with Adam Johnson; he's delighted to be signing for us. Atromitos were great hosts & the meal in Hotel Omonia in Glyfada was tremendous. Looking forward to press conference in the morning. At least 7k Mags here tonight
-
Newcastle took more to Greece tonight than sunderland did to Man City in 91 & Wigan in 05 combined
-
an intolerance of reactionary, unthinking right wing fuckwits like you.
-
presumably the latter qualities will stand him in good stead as he develops positional awareness....

I don't gamble; I find it immoral, especially when you see so many people who get in to terrible financial (and emotional) problems because of it.
