  1. You mean try to prevent them from playing fotball for 70 minutes then try to rob the other team of points in the last 20? If only there was such a manager in existence...
  2. We looked like barcelona out there, a convincing home win which sees us 5 points off 8th. Pardew in.
  3. People never learn All thats missing now is formations with debauchery, perhaps get back in for Erdinc and Maiga too - just for some good craic..?
  4. smoke and mirrors to take the focus away from the current quagmire of results...
  5. Their left back is going nowhere with gabby on the pitch.
  6. Agreed. I really cant fault him for doing it.
  7. Malaga got Porto hmm.... decent draw for them.
  8. Fair enough, but how do you explain our turgid attacking displays. There is no appearent plan going forward? Or is that also due to our frail defence? If everything goes tits up because of a central defender missing then perhaps someone is focusing excessively on keeping it tight at the expense of everything else...
  9. You know city wont buy him right away, he will have to contribute considerably to our league position for a few seasons before they pull the trigger - by which time he has already helped us enough to be in a position to attract other good players. Yes there is always a bigger fish, but that doesnt mean buying good players is pointless since they will fuck off anyway. For being a midtable club we sure have alot of players constantly linked with the top-4 clubs. That should tell you something. I think a competent manager would have us play decent fotball at a closer level to the top teams than what we are atm.
  10. The bigger picture would be comparing our current batch of first teamers to that of the other teams, from which we would come out quite favorably. Our first team is in the top-6 regarding player worth - why are we then playing and performing like a relegation fodder team? Ignore the spending for a minute and look at our first XI. I hate Ashley but he HAS aquired quite a decent team who should be perfectly able to perform better than 70% of the division. We arent and that is a pure managerial issue imo.
  11. No, there is a difference between sympathy and acceptance. Many on here have accepted that as long as we are owned by Ashley, we cannot compete. That includes the current squad because of a select few ( willo, simpson, jonas ) who appearently screw it up for the other 8 players. This view also partly excuses any performance displayed by pardew and also makes him nigh-on inculpable when it comes to poor results because its either because of injuries, the summer window or lack of investment or more likely all of the above. My view is quite simple, we should be doing a hell of a lot better with the players we ahve, than what we have done this season. And that my friends, is down to pardew. Martin Jol said it best when he had a not-so-subtle dig at wor alan after beating us again at the cottage: "Newcastle have some fantastic players" he is right you knaaa
  12. Meaning Villa didnt interest him for other reasons than wages. We are a much bigger club. Rodgers knocked back chelsea, did he not? Would that mean Liverpool should have saved themselves the phone call?
  13. Even if our defence was packed with stars like debauchy and douglas we would still be gash going forward. Not that some on here would mind, we should be grateful to ashley for simply being in this division..
  14. What about the fact that we spend 4 days a week practicing how to stop the opposition, and friday afternoon before the game Carver is given some time to practice attacking? Before you ask for sources, that is a direct quote from Carver himself last year. Is that something you feel is the correct method to promote "the newcastle way" ?
  15. What about Ole Gunnar Solskjær, whats wrong with him? Likes to keep it on the ground, schooled under Ferguson and looks to duplicate his ethos - quick progressive passing. Just took Molde to their second back-to-back league title. He is on considerably less than 500k a year as well - 200-300 perhaps.
  16. we have simpson williamson and recently jonas who has also turned to shit. The rest of the starting XI should be good enough to at least average 1.5 points after 20 games. When we average 1.0 stones need to be turned.
  17. And every expensive transfer is going to be a Luque/Owen signing is it? Sometimes transfers or managers dont work out, that shouldnt be used as an arguement for not spending at all. Money doesnt guarantee success, but show me ONE club whos had it WITHOUT spending money. If you dont spend you will be left behind. Its that simple.
  18. The bench isnt playing much is it. Yes its not up to the standard of the first elleven but that doesnt mean it excuses the poor performances by a squad who should be doing considerably better. We overachieved last season - yes - but we should hover around 8-9th at worst with what we have. Its no longer a rough patch its something more fundamental, we are soon to be 20 games in with less than 20 points to show for it. Relegation form if I ever saw it.
  19. Just because Pardew is on 500k doesnt mean thats the ceiling necessarily... if relegation really becomes a threat then I am sure they realise that they will have to pay up a bit more to get someone in who can steady the ship again. That being said they are probably happy enough having a yes man on 500k who defends the regime, that they wont do anything unless absolutely fucking necessary. FWIW Hughton was sacked for being 11th in the league first year back after being relegated. Now we are on relegation form with a team full of stars. Make of that what you will in regards to how blameless pardew is.
  20. Where is our occational general chat poster at best - catmag - these days. I miss her feline input
