Maybe part of the problem is that the sage like Mitchell foresaw, or even wanted, the Isak situation and was happy for it to happen (even if it meant a sale to a domestic rival) so then he would have 120 mil or so to spunk on untried untested nobodies that he would expect Eddie to shape into 10/20 mil profit players. And maybe the shrapnel of his shit time at the helm of all things transfer related is proving far more difficult to deal with internally than we, as onlookers, appreciate.
