1. BTW, Gemmill, I feel I should mention that there is a non-zero chance of my making a trip out to the U.K. in November. I hope it happens; it'll be my first since 2002.... if I make it, I will ice my knees sufficiently to collect on the pint you will owe me when I czardas for you.
2. How is David Brent one-dimensional? He's: a chilled-out entertainer; a philosopher-poet; a singer/song-writer; a philanthropist; and the father of one big happy family! Can you give me an example of how it's predictable? Are you saying that a parody accentuating a person's most obvious flaw does not work? 123589 You're wasting your time man. The real problem is as follows: the absence of a laughter track or a big Friends-esque sign saying "HERE COMES THE PUNCHLINE" meant that he had to work out for himself where the jokes were, and it ruined it for him. 123593 You're becoming very dull, Gemmill. I'm beginning to see certain others' point(s) regarding you. 123600 Overreact much? What points would those be then? 123605 Not overreacting, simply finding it true in this instance that you keep making the same joke without anything new added. Usually you at least add something to it each time. 123610 I'd say it was a slight overreaction tbh. I liked you best when you were the cossack dancing American bloke that planned to marry every lass he went out with within two minutes of meeting them. Any chance of you going back to that? 123637 'fraid not; the knees have gone.
3. Not humorloess; just don't share your sense of humor. Arrogant, I can't deny. I'm American. Perhaps I've just not had the same experiences? Although I did find Office Space amusing.

Again and again 123615 (At least in my mind) the joke changed after the first instance to be that fact.

6. I thought the point was to be funny? No.

8. 123589 I'm saying that within the first five minutes of an episode I can tell how every character is going to react and what is going to happen. It's fine to have a transparent plot if the characters can pull it off and make you satisfied for knowing what's going to happen, but they couldn't and they don't.
9. Something about this was bothering me last night; you're the second person on here in recent weeks to use that word to describe a purely character-driven piece. I think, in the case of The Office, the word is either completely wrong, or irrelevent; can you clarify? 123431 Character-driven pieces don't work with one-dimensional characters.
10. More the classics, I guess. IMO Fawlty Towers is perhaps the greatest comedy ever. To be fair I don't care for most sit-coms in general. British TV is shit. American TV is mostly shitter, but has occasional decent shows, mainly due to sheer volume--some are bound to be watchable.
11. I actually quite enjoy most "Brit-coms" but found The Office really disappointing. Maybe it had been built up too much for me.
12. Found it to be very, very dull. Predictable and stale.
13. Should have watched the UK version 123220 Oh, I did. Wasn't a bit funnier than the American version. FACTAPPOINTMENT.
14. Finally got around to watching The Office this past weekend and was quite disappointed. I expected it to be much funnier.
15. Doesn't play too much tbh. He's 16; mostly a late sub last year. Maybe this year, never know.

'Types'

Generally go for the shorter women, and brown hair, though have a thing for red heads at times. Self confident but secure enough to ask for help when needed and knowing her limitations. (in a good way.) Not too bothered about size of tits, but I've always liked a good back/backside. Not just the arse, but the whole back.
17. Worse than Leonardo on Ramos in 1994? No blood, but fractured his skull... 115601 That was accidental though surely. Tino's did no dammage as I think he caught him more with the inside of his upper arm, but it was certainly fun to watch. 115690 100% intentional
18. Can't be that effective then. 115676 He didn't wear it until this year.
19. Tended to consider people who wore them puffs, but the guy above gets paid more for wearing it than for playing. Also, he's missed a year and a half due to concussions.
20. Trust me, Ramos had the ball. I've still got the game on tape (and was recently watching it in prep work for another video compilation.) 115624 I'll take your word for it mate. I remember the game though. Strangely, even though England didn't qualify (or maybe because they didn't) I really enjoyed USA '94. You lot were unlucky to get Brazil in the last 16. Shite final like. 115626 It was our own fault; we didn't come to play against Romania in the last group game b/c we had beaten Colombia and had 4 pts. That loss left us hanging on as a 3rd place team and at the mercy of Brazil. (Instead of Spain or Argentina, mind so it wouldn't have been much easier anyways.) The final was poor, but I felt Brazil were worthy winners. Gutted for Baggio though. In semi-related news, Romario just signed for a 2nd division club in Miami, so I'll get the chance to heckle him personally on June 11 when they're in town.

22. Pretty much ended his career in terms of effectiveness; was never the same player. Fractured his skull. 115591 Remember it well. Always liked Leonardo too and I have a certain sympathy with him as he was getting his shirt pulled at the time but fucking hell! You can't expect to get away with that! 115599 They both had each other's shrits in their hands, Ramos was trying to dribble around him at the time, so who was pulling who is questionable. I always liked Leonardo too, and even later in his career at PSG I thought he was a good player, but that elbow was worthy of a year ban.
23. After this World Cup he moved to Berlin where he was a huge flop and where he only got a handful of games. Sanneh had only one season where he was a regular first team player in Jormany and that in his first season with Nuremberg who were awful and just avoided the drop. In his second season he got demoted to the bench. He also played mostly as a midfielder IIRC. Other current American international players from the Bundesliga like Conor Casey aren't setting the world alight either. And that's despite the league being piss poor these days... 115598 Sanneh was crap after the cup tbf; although he had quite a bad back injury IIRC (He's from my home town and have met him on many occasions.) He missed a good year with that injury and then came to MLS.... where he's a complete joke and his team's fans literally want him injured so that he can't play.... "American International" is quite a stretch for Conor Casey, mind. Don't overlook Steve Cherundolo, though; he's quite a good right back. (Don't get me started on Cletus' stint in Hannover, though )
