  1. As I mentioned in the politics thread, take some time to look back at our political past, what we were like when the government thought they knew best and how really shit people’s lives were compared to now. This is the world Corbyn and McDonnel want to take us back too. Everything can be sorted by spending someone else’s money. ”Sick man of Europe” was our reputation. Thatcher dragged the country from its sickbed and Blair continued in overall the same vein. Read your Guardian and immerse yourself in a hard left eutopia but it’s never worked here or anywhere else in the world.
  2. So much bollocks. Maybe instead of reading guff like this you should go back and read what state the country was in during the 70’s. (You won’t, but you should for balance). The reason a lot of privatisation works is that they are run better and more professionally than a group of MP’s can manage. That’s why so many were run down and heavily subsidised in the 70’s. As soon as McDonnell gets his hands on the railways it will be more staff needed, better pay, better conditions, more middle management and back to subsidy’s. There would be no profit.
  3. STOP WORRYING MAN! Seriously, you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. A deal is getting done, we’ll carry on exactly as now for 2 or 3 years and then seemlessly transition to the new arrangements. Virtually nobody will notice the difference.
  4. The fucking liberal gammons would be all over the immigrants like a rash
  5. That doesn’t get rid of your political spectrum from far left to far right and you would just end up with policy deadlock and incremental changes. Sometimes, as with Thatcher and Blair, you need strong governments to govern.
  6. @ewerk What is reality on the ground of a United Ireland? Is it part of everyday discourse, is the clamour growing, is a vote likely in the next few years, will a United Ireland stay in the EU or would that need a vote?
  7. I’m confused, I thought you were advocating power sharing.
  8. They shall not grow old Not 100% sure if this is coming via cinemas or TV but the clips the news channels have been running are amazing to see. Basically Sir Peter Jackson has transformed loads of WW1 footage into colour.
  9. But we haven’t had “winner takes all” for the last 8 years that you are complaining about. Had either party had a big majority in 2010 or 2015 then we wouldn’t be in this position.
  10. I’d rather see you lot make up and then we could get on with our lives.
  11. We’ve had 8 tough years because of the financial crash. You will never end adversarial politics in a democracy.
  12. I agree with a lot of that. I would rather we called Brexit off than have another vote.
  13. Maybe we should action the first democratic decision first. To your 2nd point, it’s very rare we get a hung parliament, having a system that produces more of them doesn’t appeal to me.
  14. No it didn’t. It’s been debated and voted on numerous times in parliament and whatever plan May gets needs to be passed in parliament.
  15. Just for clarity..... Voters backed the manifesto 553 MP’s voted for the refferendum 17.4 million voted to leave 500 MP’s voted to trigger article 50 stop whinging about democracy in action.
  16. They did. The conservatives offered the public the refferendum at the 2015 election which resulted in the first conservative government in nearly 20 years.
  17. Hows changing the government going in Venezuela? If Brexit is the disaster Renton fears then we could rejoin the EU.
  18. But our trade with the EU is shrinking and 95% of future growth will be outside the EU. Why on Earth tie ourselves to a sinking ship. (Especially when the financial crisis of Greece and Italy is about to cause even more problems).
  19. And I’m deflecting!!! Why not just post as things are other than typing blatant lies (yesterday and today). Much easier way of discussing politics.
  20. Wrong about what? Brexit? Thats democracy. What if all those who want Corbyns Labour to replace the Conservatives are wrong? If Brexit went wrong it leads to lower GDP and some job losses, if Corbyn borrows Billions, Mis manages the finances and turns us into Venezuela we’re all queuing up for rotting meat to feed our kids.
