  1. Well you would have thought that's his athletics career over. And to think of what he could have been, he had the world at his feet.
  2. Best of luck with the radiotherapy Stevie.
  3. Depends how it's set up where you are but it can be done so you get to go home on the same day.
  4. Obviously you're speaking from experience in the first paragraph, but it looks like you are in the second as well, is this the case? Did your dad gleefully report how much more he was beating your mum whilst you were at university?
  5. Like those cretins who give "amusing" answers to security check in or on their landing cards.
  6. I appreciate it must be really frustrating about vague answers. It will be frustrating for them not being able to give them to you too, they're not trying to fob you off or keep you in the dark, it's just that a lot of these things are so difficult to quantify. Obviously I can't give you any more of an idea than they already have done. As others have said, take comfort from the fact that the people looking after you are experts in their field and really know what they're doing. Have they said anything about how they're doing it, ie will you need to be awake while they do it? And if your surgeon is a woman - despite this being the 21st century, surgery is still very much a male dominated profession, and women who make it to consultant have to smash through many a glass ceiling by proving themselves as excellent clinicians. Add this to the fact that neurosurgery is fiercely, fiercely competitive you can take it as read that your surgeon will be shit hot. As to nipping to for the football - I wouldn't bank on it. Unless you're basically fit enough to go home they won't be keen to let you leave the hospital. I've no idea what the facilities are like up there re Sky, but there's always Sky Go?
  7. Christ, what an eventful couple of weeks. Hope all goes well on the 14th Stevie. I anaesthetised people for brain surgery last year so if there's anything I can help you with just ask.

    Gejon.

First time I've been on here since I've been away, what awful news. Jon had exactly that perfect easy going charm and humour that has kept me coming to these boards for so many years. 31 is no bloody age whatsoever. Fantastic job with the flowers Cath, well done for organising it an d to everyone for contributing. Sorry to have missed the boat with chipping in but can I still contribute to the fund that's going to charity Cath?
  9. Must have been and clearly was a bit if a fright, glad you've got it picked up and treated.
  10. Pretty good. Off on holiday for two weeks (London for a few days, Yorkshire Dales for mums 60th then Amalfi coast for a week). Great way to celebrate passing my final anaesthetics exams a couple of weeks ago - had been on revision lockdown for the best part of a year, hence my absence from these fine boards.

    Earth.

Renton and Fish are giving that sort of sensible advice the same attention wolfy gives to questions on bets.
  12. It's really true. We take pride in it - one if my friends was slagging of another (actually very capable) doctor because her handwriting was "too neat, like a nurse's".
  13. I suppose you could argue that says more about our country than his, they back their players to the hilt no matter what. Wasn't being booed at every club away match a factor in Shearer retiring from internationals? Obviously I think the bite is indefensible and my 13 year old self was furious with Beckham, but it must be heartening for players to know they can always count on the fans/papers back home. The fact ours can't is probably one of the reasons they often under perform or don't want to play at all, as has been recently suggested.
  14. Interesting that Chiellini has said the ban is excessive and that his thoughts are "with Louis and his family". Wise move, prob doesn't want to be pelted with faeces by scousers if they meet in the CL next year. Or for Suarez to come back for seconds.
  15. Robert Lima, winner of several Uruguayan championships, has suggested that Uruguay should pull out of the tournament in protest. Torn between wanting to be rid of the classless fuckers ASAP and wanting to see them bumfucked by Columbia. Hello again everybody btw.
  16. Just seen the Soccer Saturday lot go bananas over it, it's the usual rubbish "there's not a lot of contact, but there's definite forward head movement". Football is fucking rubbish
  17. That cunt Savage thinks it was "disgusting" and deserves a ten game ban.
  18. Don't sit on the fence Parky, tell us what you really think.
  19. If they don't agree with you can you not get something else from your doctor? I'm in an ok mood. Not at work again til Friday night, which is just as well as work is reet depressing at the moment. Paramedics were bringing in a baby in cardiac arrest last night (he died) and there are some really grim stories on my ICU right now. Still, don't have to think about it for a few days and I'm off out tonight.
  20. Yeah I saw that, although the description I read used the word 'dunk'. I find it amusing, the idea of standing with your legs apart then ceremoniously bending then straightening your knees to plunge your chap in and out of this beaker as if it were a chocolate digestive.
  21. It could have been a lot worse Tom, but I'm fine, thank you.
  22. Yeah, working in a major trauma centre I see some nasty shit that's happened to cyclists. Mostly as a result of being walloped by cars, so if you don't put yourself at risk I think you're fairly safe. Of course, there was no car involved with me though.
  23. Was going down a hill at speed on Tuesday, hit a bump and blew my back tyre. Tried to slow down and get off the road and have a look but bike was having none of it, and I ploughed into the tarmac head first. Must have looked pretty bad as a woman stopped and offered to wait with me for ambulance, but the only damage was a broken tooth, which amazingly my dentist fixed that morning (despite me not going for four years!) for just under fifty quid. Careful out there guys!
