"Even more irksome was the wariness with which the British regarded Philip when he first came on the royal scene. A poll taken in 1947 revealed widespread dismay at Philip's alien origins. Never mind that he was, like Elizabeth, a great-great-grandchild of Queen Victoria. To the public he became 'Phil the Greek', an opprobrious nickname which still surfaces from time to time today. It was inaccurate. Philip was born a Prince of Greece, but his ancestry was actually Danish and German. The nickname was none the less wounding for that, though." He line is oringinally from the House of Hannover crossed with the Danes. The Danes had the practice of exporting Royalty and Royal lines to countries where the natives didn't really trust each other to run things. Our Royals are mostly Krauts as well Stevie if you were wondering. Saxe Coburg Goethe till the name changes. Aye but if a Paki is born in England, are they Pakistani or English? They're English of course they are, so Phil remains Greek till the day he dies. Citizenship issues aren't a good counterpoint to Royal bloodlines. Phil's bloodline is all important rather than where he was born. iirc the whole Greek royal family are from Denmark/House of Hannover/ Original Hapsburg line (old Europe and the Viennese). Not a drop of Greek blood in them probably, perhaps the odd chambermaid. The Dutch Royals and the old Russian royals are further examples. You need to support Holland or Germany if you want to remain consistent Stevie mate.

Needs to get a haricut and some Grecian 10000.

Managed to keep most of the gold in Euro during the banking wars too.

Prince Phillip is Danish. Born in Corfu though. He's Greek "Phil The Greek" He's got the Danish Royal family and the Battenburgs (who became the Mountbattens) in his family tree iirc. Correct see above. Also with Royalty the lineage is far more indicative rather than where they happen to be born etc...see 'The White Russians' etc...

Prince Phillip is Danish.

I used to be like that. Until you married a Kraut you mean? She supports Eng when we're playing so it's only fair like.

Anelka? As a desperate January stop gap for a club as wealthy as Chelski? Maybe. For most anyone else? Nope. 39 in 89 at a struggling Man City 23 in 58 at Bolton Both average sides. And nearly the magic 1 in 2. One of the best strikers in the world? Easily. 51 in 125 at Man City. 23 in 61 at Bolton. Only just better than Shearer in his last season, and worse than Shearer in his 2nd from last season. He's a good player, without a doubt, but more around the £10M mark. his goal record is good enough if he stays for the duration of his contract. i think the bigger problem with anelka is he's likely to want to fuck off to another club after a season or two. Most players these days tbf. -
I used to be like that.

He's very skillful though. This is one player imo where Wenger missed the boat. Pace probably was the issue. If Milner works on his crossing, he's every bit as good as Bentley. Can't agree with you there like. I think Bentley's different class. IMO, with the exception of pace* and crossing ability, Milner has a lot going for him. The major difference between him and Bentley is delivery, from open play and set-pieces. If Milner nails that, we'd all love him. His work ethic is second to none, too. *I also don't think he's all that slow. This is where you come back with the old 'apart from' (which develops into a long list) post....Eh?

Germany committed to their new attacking philosophy...So all good. Looking forward to the Portugese crying etc...

Out as usual in Q-F anyway. Al pomp and no heart.

In all honesty who can blame him. Me. I like him and rate him but he's just another player who's done fuck all and thinks he should be playing for Man Utd or somebody. Aye, another Le Sulk to be honest. Loads of potential, but potential isn't the same thing as actually being an amazing player. Are you one of those that railed against our on/off interest in Anelka? -
Good post. IMO we should have gone the extra mile to sign both these players Don't suppose it will change some "opinions" that the clubs current transfer policy of bringing in 17 year old kids and hoping to gain success on the cheap is the way to go instead. Mind boggling. Still, Alex Ferguson has spent a lot of money, as have the other trophy winning clubs, but I'm sure those who agree that buying cheap shite is the way forward What does this post even mean? You're like an alcoholic bum arguing with an invisible foe. B) Your username betrays your lack of judgement and intelligence, if you think that THAT tosser justified his fee and being brought to the club. Keegan only made a few mistakes, but he was one of the biggest. So, there's only one idiot here, but as with other people, I don't expect you to understand the point. Its fairly simple really. Are you happy with last summers transfers and running the club as a "business". If you are, stop fuckin moaning about the league position, which may get worse. I can't believe what I've put in bold. Tino definitely wasn't always brilliant in the league but he did contribute. In Europe he was nothing short of sensational, not just once or twice, nearly every game. One of the biggest MYTHS about NUFC which is often mentioned is "Tino and Batty lost us the league" * Batty was our best player from when he joined to the end of the season * The rot had set in before they came, dropping points against relegated Man City, and humiliated by a piss poor West Ham * Tino was one of the best players on the pitch at Anfield * He scored a fantastic goal in the game against West Ham at home * He wasn't to blame for our pressing the self destruct button with THREE minutes to go at Blackburn * He was superb at Anfield * He didn't play in the game at Highbury * He came off the bench to set up Ferdinand's winner at home to Spurs, and our equaliser at Boro Those are facts, yet how many people do you hear say "Fuckin Tino cost us the league". I've admitted over his 22 months at the toon his league form could be patchy, but he cost 7m and we sold him for 6.5m, so we didn't lose anything, and he gave me the best night of my toon supporting life against Barcelona, and was utterly world class in other games like against Metz. If you remember as well, when SLF fucked off and Shearer got injured, Tino started the season up front on his own and looked like he was relishing it with a magnificent performance and brace against Sheff Wed. All in all, Tino was up there with the most skillful players the Premiership has ever seen, he was an utter joy to watch at times, and I'm honoured to say we had him for a little while. Lovely read.
