  1. Saints can reveal that R.S.C. Anderlecht will replace Glasgow Rangers in this year's Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup.

Saints have today revealed that Belgian champions R.S.C Anderlecht will replace Glasgow Rangers in this year's Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup, due to the well-publicised circumstances surrounding the Scottish side.

The decision has not been made lightly and has been reached with the integrity ofthe competition in mind, ensuring that the annual event will remain an extremely competitive experience with both Arsenal and Anderlecht bringing along a firstteam squad.

St Mary's is set to be an extremely popular destination thissummer in the build up to the Club's first season back in the Premier League, and the opposition confirmed to takeon Nigel Adkins' men in pre-season friendlies during July and August will certainly whet the appetite.

Fresh from hosting Arsenal and Anderlechtin the Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup on 14th July, Saints will welcome three teams in Ajax,Wolves and Udinese that are sure to further test their credentials as a top-flight side.

  2. Not sure why so many people are such hypocrites?

Any quotes saying he's staying are dismissed, any quotes saying he's going are nailed on.

You all need to give your heads a shake iyam

Surely people are just forming an opinion on what's going on and discussing it here, which is what football forums are generally about.

Did you give your head a shake after you said you thought Ba was staying and we were after De Jong as a 3rd striker? Or was that just an opinion on the reports you wanted to believe?

  3. Olivier Giroud has spoken of his delight at being on the brink of sealing a move to Arsenal.

The striker has been on Arsenal's radar for some time and manager Arsene Wenger claimed last week that a deal was very close to being completed.

With France now out of Euro 2012, Giroud can focus on his own future and he is ready to seal his move from Montpellier.

It is being reported he will head to London this week for a medical, before putting his name to a deal that is believed to be worth £12 million to the French side.

"I am so happy to be signing for Arsenal - it is something that represents so much for me," Giroud is quoted as saying in the Sun.

"I've always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and Arsenal are a great club with many French players."

  4. Ajax insist that talks between themselves and Tottenham Hotspur over the transfer of Jan Vertonghen are continuing.

However, reports in Holland claim that the deal for the Belgian defender has hit problems due to an agreement between the player and Ajax.

It is claimed that the 25-year-old, who has 12-months left on his current deal, would be due a percentage of any transfer fee but sources suggest Ajax are not willing to pay this.

Ajax, though, insist that talks are ongoing and despite the fact they want a quick resolution, there is no fresh news on the situation.

"We all hoped for a rapid agreement between Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax and Spurs and Jan Vertonghen," Ajax financial director Jeroen Slop told De Telegraaf.

"It's in its final stage, but in our opinion there is still no concrete news."

The player's agent Mustapha Nakhli has called on Ajax to make the deal happen.

"Jan Vertonghen has always stood by Ajax, and he expects that the club does the same," Nakhli also toldDe Telegraaf.

  5. I think he's done well under Pardew in the Premiership, stepped up and scored some important goals after Carroll left and formed a solid partnership with Ba in the first half of last season that helped us stay near the top.

The biggest problem for me is his fitness as he seems to pick up niggling injuries, he's better than Ameobi as back up IMO.

If we can bring in a better back up then go for it but unless we have a considerable amount to spend then I'd rather not ship him out and replace him with De Jong, we've got more important places to fill in the starting 11 than buying depth for the attack.

  6. Ajax beats PL bid Alderweireld provisionally

Touches Ajax alongside Jan Vertonghen, it's other central defender in Belgium lost? That seems increasingly likely.

Newcastle United has expressed her interest to Toby Alderweireld. The 23-year-old Red Devil has an ongoing commitment to mid-2014 in Amsterdam. But The Magpies would be willing to pay four million euros for the defender.

For now finds Ajax that too little, reports The Newspaper.

  7. Newcastle offered five million. "We have therefore not even a counter offer," says Wim Jonk in Voetbal International. "Anita does not leave us. Instead, therefore we do not negotiate. Unless Newcastle with a different price is. Now it is quiet, but English clubs are always late with transfers."
