  1. So what if Liverpool fancy some sort of swap deal...Demba for Carroll?....Cabaye for Carroll?......Ben Arfa for Carroll? Cisse?.... any takers for that sort of action?...

theyd lose less face that way, but I certainly wouldnt want to lose any of them regardless of who was coming in.

It would be a sideways step if we hand over any of our best players in part exchange, Ba is slightly different with his buy out clause.

All both the club and Carroll have to do is stick to their guns and I don't see Liverpool having much choice unless they want him to cost them another £4 million in the next 12 months.

  2. That picture is dreamy. If he does come back, I hope he just shuts the fuck up about why he left. I don't care what the truth is, I just don't want to hear all the "I never wanted to leave" patter.

The club will come up with a story that suits both parties I would have thought, like when Shepherd tried to smooth out a return for Distin when Souness wanted him.

  3.

Thats the figure most quoted so it may well be around that mark. If he comes next season I dare say Smith's wagesw for next season will cover most of it. Then you're fucked mind. He'll want four or five years at 3-4 million a year  That means finding the transfer fee (15 mill? will one years tv money cover that?) and selling one of Tiote, Cabaye or Cisse to cover his wages.

Put like that I think they should try to sign the best young striker in France for 5mill and pay him 30k a week. As per "the model" #olympiquelyonnais ;)

Why would Smith's wage only cover Carroll's for a year?I

5 of the 11 goals in this video from the half season before he was sold to liverpool came from barton deliveries - either corners, set pieces, or but in from wide and deep areas -

i was wrong in that they weren't all from wide right but they were from the type of delivery you don't see ben arfa putting in too often.

i agree with what you're saying. i'd like to see him back too. i still think he's a good player when used correctly. but there's definitely been a big change in our style of play since he was sold and it's got us better results than when carroll was here. i think he might struggle in our current system as he has at liverpool, particularly if we stick with 4-3-3.

i don't know. could be a nice problem to have and he's definitely a good option coming off the bench. not sure he'd be up for swapping liverpool's bench for ours, or that the deal is realistic. massively taking the piss out of liverpool if it does happen. which is always nice.

The thing with a lot of Barton's assists is that they were not so much great balls but more Carroll made the most of them with his ability, like Arsenal away for example. I think Barton only managed 2 assists after Carroll left too so he was hardly spectacular at dead balls, no better than Cabaye anyway.

Also to.add what Alex said about the wide men, we have to remember that we are likely to have 2 new fullbacks to what Carroll played with before when he was here and going off the Euro's Debuchy looks to have a lot more going forward than Simpson.

  5. Reading around a few different forums this morning its strange seeing the divide its caused, there are people who were vocal about him being sold who said they wouldn't sell him for any amount yet now they wouldn't have him back under any circumstances

Personally I think he's a good player that has the potential to he very good, he was never worth anywhere near £35 million at the time but if we bought him back for up to £14 million or so I wouldn't have a problem, I would pay that for Sturridge or Welbeck and I'd put him in the sake bracket as them.

Going back to what Llambias said about Pardew wanting a smaller squad with more quality, we could potentially get rid of Best, Lovenkrands, Ranger and Xisco and still improve the squad by only signing Carroll as their replacement.

  6. I think with top sides today, there is no first eleven, you should have 16-18 players who are rotated depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. For example, if a team had a centre half like Williamson, Carroll would be the first name on the team sheet for me.

I agree with Stevie here and I think Pardew does too, remember Llambias quotes about Pardew wanting a smaller squad but with more quality available from the bench? Also I don't think anyone disputes that we went after De Jong, now I presumed it would have been a replacement for Ba but it's possible that he wasn't and De Jong coming in with Best, Lovenkrands, Ranger and Xisco departing still makes us a much stronger outfit IMO.

My biggest problem with Carroll coming in is how we play as I'd rather go for someone that can play anywhere across the front 3, other than that he will be without doubt a good addition.

  7. The Bundesliga seems to be ran extremely well at the moment. Think I've read online that club's players can only be paid a certain % of their turnover, plus there has to be fan representation on the boards as well.

Seems to be a lot of money over there too, I think there is a half a dozen or so German clubs with a higher income than us.

Carr also said that they don't scout much in Germany as the wages are comparable to ours too.

  8. You're spot on as he really would be a massive upgrade on Simpson. The amount of times last season Simpson either passed the ball backwards or just hit it up the pitch was really frustrating. Don't get me wrong he was playing the safe option because he knows he can't do what Santon does, but it would be a huge step forwards in terms of the team keeping possession.

There was a few times as well when Ben Arfa looked back and saw Simpson and thought fuck this, I'm keeping hold of it until somebody else wants the ball.

I see Simpson as one of those players that has done well to get us to a certain level but now we're progressing we need better for the starting 11.

Going into the summer the 2 positions for me that needed filling were fullback and centre back, simply because looking at our starting 11 the lack of quality there compared to the rest of the team was huge, Debuchy will give us that step up in quality bringing it up to the level of the other players in the starting 11.

2 quality attacking fullbacks can make us a completely different animal going forward.

  9. Hoilett's on a plane bound for Monchengladbach as we speak apparently.

They seem to be very attractive to half decent players at the moment...have they got a sugar daddy from Arabia or something?...

Qualified for the CL and sold their best player, so they've got money to spend.

  10. We don't really need to sign that many players. A full back, centre half and striker who can play wide in a 433 would do it as long as they're all first team material.

The key thing is hanging on to our best players. Or making sure we've enough time to get a good enough replacement in if another carroll like bid comes in.

I hope they've learned from the Kuqi incident.

That's the positions I think we need to fill too.

If the window shuts and we've signed Debuchy, Douglas and Hoilett and not lost any of our big players I'll be more than happy.

We can afford to lose Ranger, Xisco and Simpson too if they come in.

  11. "We don't expect anything immediate in the next week or so but we could have a body through the door within 14 days.

"I don't envisage too many coming in.

"We have a lot of young players here who haven't played much football.

"People like Mehdi Abeid and Haris Vuckic.

"But we are out there looking at players who will take us forward.

"We have various options still and nobody has left."
