  1. Rodgers said a loan deal for Carroll was "something I would have to look at", telling theDaily Telegraph: "I'm not going to sit here and say I will never let anyone go on loan, then come in here in two weeks and a player's gone and you're saying: 'You said you wouldn't let them go.'

"There are many things to going on loan. Is it going to be beneficial for the club? That's the most important thing.

Sometimes a player going out on loan - in general, not just Andy - can benefit the club in the long term.

"It gets them game experience and they come back a better player, a more confident one. Certainly more so than if they've been sitting on the bench for the majority of the season."

Reacting to the reports of interest from Milan, Rodgers confirmed that Liverpool have had no inquiries for Carroll so far.

  2. Some good posts in this one.

Years ago I would spend hours arguing/debating anything if I believed I was right but now I just don't really care enough about being right to get into many debates any more, I do find my interest in the various forums I've signed up to slowly disappearing and I can't imagine posting on them forever.

  3. My biggest reservation about filling the squad with young lads is that we don't seem to give them a chance to come through.

Lets take Vuckic for example, with Guthrie gone it should be the perfect opportunity for this lad to make the step up to fill that spot but I don't think he will get the chance by Pardew, there seems to be too much emphasis on every game being treated as a must win to risk resting any of our best 11 to give a young lad or 2 a chance and I find it to be a small club attitude.

You don't see Man Utd or Arsenal being too frightened to bring a young lad or 2 into the first team to give one of their better players a break, fair enough they are still better than the majority of teams in every area but so are we with a good portion of the league too now, yet you won't see us rest Tiote against someone like Wolves.

I do think a lot of young lads will waste their career by coming here sadly.

  4. The Scottish FA has not granted international clearance for the transfers of five players who declined to move their contracts from the old to the "newco" Rangers and found other clubs.

The latest twist in a summer of turmoil and uncertainty around the Ibrox club means FIFA is likely to grant temporary clearance for the quintet while it considers a final and definitive ruling on the situation.

With Charles Green's Rangers seeking compensation for players moving away, the SFA declined to grant clearance for the transfers of Steven Naismith to Everton, Steven Whittaker to Norwich, Steven Davis to Southampton, Kyle Lafferty to Sion and Jamie Ness to Stoke.

A club signing a player requests clearance through its own football association, which then contacts the association representing the country played in by the player being signed, but this scenario is complicated by the "newco" Rangers not yet being members of the Scottish FA.

And although Green is attempting to secure compensation for players moving on, the 11 to have left Rangers in the summer were advised by players' union lawyers that the situation makes them free agents.

The "newco" owner, however, claims the players are in breach of contract and wrote to clubs in the English leagues to inform them that this was how he saw the situation.

  5. I'm watching The Sopranos from the start. I watched them years ago, right up to the final season, and somehow never finished it and it's too late to just watch that now cos I've forgotten everything.

    Anyway it's class.

I'm going through them again too since the other half hasn't watched it before, got as far as season 3 at the moment.

  6.

We've sold Best and Guthrie, both who played a fair chunk of the games last season, and have also released Smith, Lovenkrands and sold Forster.

I'm not particularly sad to see any of them go but we need another 4 or 5 in to replace them. We were struggling for players with 3 competitions last year. 4 competitions with 5 players fewer is asking for trouble.

I don't think we need to replace all of them to be honest as the majority of those that have left hardly played for us last season, how many games did Smith, Forster, Kadar and Lovenkrands play between them?

They were a drain on the squad rather than valuable members lost, same goes for Ranger too if he goes.

We could easily improve by signing one striker and getting rid of four of them we've got that many on the books

Centre back, full back and a striker for me.

  7. Borussia M seem to be a similar type of club to ourselves atm. They have a ground that holds 54k, had a good season last year and are in the CL, They got relegated a few seasons back, they've won fuck all for donkeys years etc.

Looking at our squads though, ours shits all over theres. We seem to be getting linked to lots of the same players atm

The main difference apart from CL is that he would be going there as their main man up front since they sold Marco Reus to Dortmund, if he comes here he's likely to be stuck out on the left if Ba goes or rotated if he doesn't.

His agent said last week that his decision will be made on playing time and style of play rather than money.

  8. Tavernier has signed a new 3 year deal.

    Reading interested in Simpson.

When asked if he was interested in signing Salford-born Simpson, McDermott replied: "I know Danny really well and he's a good player. He's been talked about a lot but he's Newcastle United's player at the moment. We've got targets in mind and we will be pursuing those."

  9. Word of Caution above Baggio. Don't give up on it if you just think it's canny.

It gets better and better....like most of those other shows.

    Will do.

I've been stuck in a loop of Sopranos, Dexter and Oz so could do with something new.

  10. I like Best because I like anyone that puts the graft in. Ultimately not good enough for where we want to be but has scored when we've needed to. All the best to the lad. We need two strikers brought in now though IMO. Unless we get De Jong and a young 'un in, similar to Good (if he's signed).

The problem is the ANC where we could be without Cisse and Ba, however if Ba does go this summer then I can see Pardew being happy with a group of Cisse, De Jong, Hoilett and Shola, plus he will have the likes of HBA, Marveaux, Sammy and Ferguson for the wide roles.

  11. It does make you wonder why we have a squad of 30+ when there's only about 18 of them ever likely to get a kick for the first team. If we can get rid of the shite 10-12 and replace them with 4-5 quality players and have a decent group of 22 then are we going to be better off? That was Mourinhos plan we he first started at Chelsea iirc. 2 players for every position

I think that's what Pardew's thinking is, to try and get more balance to the squad and get rid of 3 or 4 squad players and replace them with 1 or 2 of superior quality capable of either improving the first team or of similar quality.

I hope he gives a few more youngsters a bump up to regulars in the early games in Europe too.
