  1. I think Pardew has to take his share of the blame for Guthrie leaving to be honest, I can remember mid season he was playing well with Tiote away at the ACON and Cabaye picking up a stupid 3 match ban ruling him out, yet when both were available again (Wolves?) he dropped Guthrie so that those 2 could walk straight back in.

Now I know some people think you should pick your best 11 players for every game but it is a squad game now and Pardew should have shown more faith in someone playing well, he basically told Guthrie that it doesn't matter how well you play that if Cabaye and Tiote are fit then you're out, so you can't really blame him for moving on.

It's also worth mentioning that Pardew wants to shrink the squad size down according to Llambias but have better quality coming off the bench so I don't expect everyone to be replaced.

  2. "Newcastle are a beautiful club. I'm open to anything. We'll see what happens, but there's nothing wrong with listening to Ajax and what interested clubs have to say," Anita was quoted as saying by Ajax Life.

"I will seriously consider anything that comes up. Does it matter to me that Newcastle are not in the Champions League? No.

"However, I'm an Ajax player for now. I'm focusing on Ajax. Newcastle's interest has made me think about a potential transfer, though. It's a sign that I'm on the right track and have to keep this up. I haven't set a deadline for when I want clarity. I'll just see how this pans out."

  3. Latest quotes from his agent confirms he wants to leave and wants to play in a top league, he's also said the style of play and the amount of playing time is more of a factor than money.

So how much playing time is he going to get here and can we offer him a better role (presumably wide left) compared to what Monchengladbach can?

  4. Well he has to buy someone. You can't just sell all your players or else you don't have a team. 26mil profit on a like for like swap isn't bad though. Which bit are you finding outlandish btw?

Do people really have memories this short? Pardew has even said in the press its going to to be hard to keep Tiote. Is he softening us up for nowt?

The bit I'm finding outlandish is your argument.

On the one hand you're arguing that he had '£35 million sat in the bank' when I said he spent £10 million+ last season and then a few posts later you're saying that it all comes out of his pocket anyway as profit is his profit and loss is his loss.

Did we spend £10 million net last season? Yes or somewhere close.

Will we do it again this season? Who knows.

  5. Those two and a forward for me. Don't think we have enough depth up front. Not quality anyway.

I was thinking the other day about when we last had 3 quality strikers on the books at the same time.

Owen, Martins and Viduka stand out in recent times and they were all injury prone but then you have to go back 15 years to when we had Shearer, Ferdinand and Asprilla for the time before I think unless I'm missing something obvious.

  6. Without wanting to go all championship manager...

We could potentially sign De Jong and Hoilett for the same money as we would get for Ba and Best, that would leave us needing £10-£12 million for Debuchy and Douglas, now the club has already indicated that it would make around £10 million profit this season plus the sales of Forster and possibly Simpson makes it doable IMO.

  7. So its pretty much as I said?....and Derek saying we're "debt free" is, being charitable, a load of fuckin wank?

I understand we're in a better posistion then we were before relegation, and I understand completly the financial model the owner is working to, its pretty much the only game in town available to him and the club, and he's proving to be a canny player, but I just hate being fuckin lied to and this issue for me is a cloud hanging over the whole club that will not go away.

This is what the guy who tried to sell it last time for him said about the debt...

“I know him well and I’m representing him now, he has actually cleared up Newcastle’s debt. On the balance sheet it shows they don’t owe money, they owe it to him. That’s not debt, that’s equity, a more efficient way for an owner who owns the whole business.”

I can remember Matt going into detail about why owners do it here...

  8.

The FC Twente boss is unhappy at the prospect of losing the man who bagged 30 goals for him last season and earned himself a place in Holland’s Euro 2012 squad.

And he has told his board that he wants to include the Swiss-born centre-forward in his plans for next season.

FC Twente are also joining Newcastle in the Europa League.

McClaren told the Dutch media: “Luuk de Jong would stay if it were up to me – unless stupid money is offered.

“The club know what I think about it.”

McClaren has also suggested that De Jong – who craves a move to the Premier League – may not be ready for the switch to England just yet.

The man who won the League Cup when in charge of Middlesbrough back in season 2003/04 said: “Only since last winter has Luuk been playing as a number 9. He must have at least one full season playing as a striker to become a top player at a big club.”

McClaren is already resigned to losing 6ft 4in defender Douglas this summer.

The Brazilian-born stopper was fined by McClaren this month for failing to turn up for training on time.

The defender had been visiting his mother, who had underwent an operation, however he failed to contact the club to tell them he needed more time.

United are working on the deal over the weekend but striker Leon Best continued talks on Friday over a proposed move to Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers.

The Magpies are happy to let the player go for a fee of around £3million plus add-ons if Rovers are promoted has been agreed in principle.

Reserve-team midfielder Mehdi Abeid was also linked with a move to a second-flight outfit in Ipswich Town.

However, Abeid is set to be assessed on his return to pre-season training and will feature prominently in the Magpies’ friendly fixtures next month.

Abeid made two appearances last term in the Carling Cup and FA Cup.

Is De Jong in the final year of his contract?

I'm not sure how much more McClaren thinks they can hold out for if he is.

  9. According to a peculiar logic, much has also been made of what Ashley’s alleged financial “backing” of the club in terms of making a £140 million loan to himself, which is repayable on demand by the club, to save himself from paying high interest rates on his own Newcastle United debts. The term “clearing” the club’s debts has been used so often that many fans are still oblivious to the fact that the club is now actually far more in debt than it was when Ashley assumed control of the club in 2007.

I thought this was the interesting bit..... if this is right, and I've no reason to beleive its anything other than the author's own take/spin on things, should Ashley come to sell the club, is there still likely to be a huge residual debt that the club will be left with?...obviously a lot of that was accrued by the previous regime, but still.....its not exactly being "debt free" is it, as is being bandied about by Derek in particular....revenues and turnover aren't what they were, so what sort of ability will we have to service a possibly huge debt, should Mike not fancy paying for the previous regime's extravagance, as well as some of his own. We may well now, as the business stands, "wipe our own mouth" as Derek is fond of saying, but what is actually lying in wait for us?

I know its very unlikely that hes going to get a decent offer anyway, but I just dont like the feeling thst theyre continuing to bullshit us.... I know Gemmil is fond of saying the SD branding is a sort of "quit pro quo" for Ashley taking the debt on himself to prevent the club from laying out huge fees to banks in interest, but if the debt is still there the club is only gaining anything while he is in charge.

I'd say the chances of the situation happening are slim to none to be honest, unless the club was bought on the cheap while in administration.
