Bordeaux have now thrown their hat into the ring for Newcastle United centre-half Jean Alain Boumsong, (writes Alan Oliver). But their chances of prising the 26-year-old defender away from St James' Park are not good, especially as they want to take Boumsong on loan at first. Bordeaux now find themselves in the same boat as fellow French league clubs Marseille, Monaco and Lens, who all want the central defender. But they all want United to pay half his wages during a loan period which, not surprisingly, has left both chairman Freddy Shepherd and manager Glenn Roeder non-plussed to say the least. The top wages in France are around £15,000-£20,000 per week which does not even begin to compare with the £35,000 Boumsong picks up at St James' Park. And he is not going to go back to France in a move that would see his wages cut by more than half. But Boumsong must realise he is now fourth-choice centre-half at United, behind Titus Bramble, Craig Moore and Steven Taylor. He is not in tonight's starting line-up against FK Ventspils, and unless he goes on as substitute he will not be cup-tied for European competition. Meanwhile, United are edging closer to getting their own new men in. Roeder is in constant touch with Thomas Gravesen's agent John Sivebaek. And while they know that other clubs are now sniffing for the Real Madrid player, including Sivebaek's former club Manchester United, Newcastle are still confident they can get the 30-year-old midfielder to St James' Park next week. But strikers remain the priority and Roeder has been talking to Emre about his former Inter Milan colleague Obefemi Martins. The pair of them were not particularly close in their time at the San Siro, but Roeder still wants to glean as much information as he can about Martins. Martins is a Nigerian international - just like Celestine Babayaro - and Roeder has also checked with his left-back about the £9m-rated Inter Milan striker.

Newcastle United are watching and waiting to see if Ashley Cole moves across London from Arsenal to Chelsea this week. For if he does then Chelsea's England international Wayne Bridge will again find himself second-choice left-back at Stamford Bridge. And I hear that if he is, then Bridge would love to join his former Chelsea colleagues Celestine Babayaro, Scott Parker and Damien Duff at St James' Park. Everybody knows that a couple of strikers are Glenn Roeder's priorities and that this is something everyone from Freddy Shepherd down is working on almost non-stop at the moment with the Premiership opener with Wigan Athletic just 11 days away. But as in the case with Thomas Gravesen, who many United supporters would love to join them from Real Madrid, Roeder cannot pass up the opportunity to sign a quality player. Bridge - he was 26 last Saturday - cost Chelsea £7m when he joined them from his local club Southampton exactly three years ago. But there is no way Chelsea would be looking for anywhere near this amount, especially as relations are so cordial between Stamford Bridge and St James' Park these days. Bridge, who has 23 England caps, was farmed out on loan to Fulham last season. And he must have thought that, with Asier del Horno having been sold to Valencia last month, he was going to be first-choice left-back again for Jose Mourinho, who incidentally was sat next to Glenn Roeder at yesterday's meeting of the Premiership managers. However, the impending arrival of Ashley Cole will mean more disappointment for Bridge and he would not take much persuading to head north to Tyneside. Mourinho has such a big squad that he can afford to let players go and there is still a slim chance that United might get Shaun Wright-Phillips on loan from Chelsea before the transfer window slams shut again at the end of the month. Chelsea agreed to let Hernan Crespo returned to Italy and Inter Milan yesterday and this could eventually lead to United finally signing a striker that Roeder would love to see in a black-and-white shirt. For before Crespo's signature was even dry on the transfer form Inter striker Obafemi Martins slapped in a transfer request, and this will interest Roeder. The United boss and his assistant Kevin Bond watched the Nigerian striker in the Amsterdam Tournament over the weekend and he has something United are crying out for - the pace to get behind opposing defences. Meanwhile, Gravesen was left out of the Real Madrid squad which went to America yesterday, and with only the results of Amady Faye's medical holding up his £2m move to Charlton Athletic, the way is surely clear for the Danish international to join his former Bernabeu colleague Michael Owen at St James' Park.

I was thinking the same myself. I assumed this thread had been posted in thier admin/mod forum as half of the mods were all over here at the same time posting away in here. And much like The Fish, it isn't a "Stay on your own board nerrrrrr thing" as he puts it, I just found it strange that you could openly discuss it on here, yet lock a thread about it on N-O... 172110 I was asked to discuss it here by DotBum earlier in the thread. And there is a thread discussing it on NO, for what it's worth. 172112 Fair dos mate as I say, there was nothing snidey meant by my post as I have no problem with any of what is going on. I just noticed that 4 or 5 mods were all on and Sned was about too so like I say assumed their must have been a link on N-O. I also see there is another thread which is fair enough..(I was refering to the one that had been locked)

Newcastle are reported to be weighing up a move for Dutch international Tim de Cler. Reports emanating from Holland claim Newcastle are ready to test AZ Alkmaar's resolve to hang on to the defender. Magpies boss Glenn Roeder and his scouting staff took in two games in Holland over the weekend as they look at prospective new signings. One of the games that came under the gaze of Newcastle's scouting team was AZ Alkmaar's friendly with Arsenal. It is now believed that de Cler was the subject of Newcastle's interest in that game on Friday. Roeder is keen to bolster his defence and a new left back is thought to be one of his top priorities. De Cler has established himself as a key component in the AZ side and is now a member of the Dutch national team. Feyenoord have also expressed an interest in de Cler, but Newcastle could now be ready to rival them for his signature. The Magpies are also thought to be keen on de Cler's team-mate Joris Mathijsen with Jean-Alain Boumsong expected to leave St James' Park in the near future.
