    Snow

Is it snowing in Newcastle? Its crazy the amount of snow we have got here and living in a small town the roads etc are completely covered. However my Dad was due to leave about 5 am to travel down south, i expected to get up this morning and find the car still there however it looks like he had made the journey.
  8. LIVERPOOL skipper Steven Gerrard has urged boss Rafael Benitez to make the signing everyone at Anfield wants this summer - Michael Owen. Holders Liverpool were dumped out of the European Cup last week after failing to score over two legs against Benfica. Now Gerrard insists bringing England 1 striker Owen back to Anfield will revive the club's fortunes in Europe and the Premiership next season. would love to see Michael Owen wear the red shirt of Liverpool again. But that is not my decision, that is the manager's decision," said Gerrard last night. Owen was desperate to re-join Liverpool last season after one year at Real Madrid following his £8 million move. But when Newcastle offered Real £16m for the 26-year-old Liverpool refused to match it, having sold their star striker for half that amount a year earlier, and Owen joined the Toon. A Kop bid to nick Owen would cause uproar on Tyneside, but I Gerrard believes Owen is the I answer to the goalscoring crisis that has wrecked the defence of their European crown and is seriously undermining their bid for second place in the Premiership. "We have struggled to turn chances into goals so I think someone along the lines of Michael could be the missing piece we are looking for," added Gerrard. "But I am not sure if the manager wants Michael back or not. The decision is Rafa's and not mine. "Michael scores goals so who wouldn't want him in the team. I am going to be biased towards Michael because he is one of my best friends. I love Michael Owen, he is a great striker - and he scores goals." Liverpool's strike-force will be under the microscope again at Highbury today. Victory is vital to their hopes of finishing second and hing automatic Champions League qualification for next season. Having scored only five goals in their last ten games Liverpool are desperate to find their goal k. Failure to do so could derail their season and send Benitez - battling with the board over funds to strengthen his side - into the arms of Real Mdrid or Inter Milan. But d is confident Benitez will stay and make the signings that will turn Liverpool into genuine Premiership contenders. Gerrard said: "When the speculation was happening about me and my future last summer Rafa told me he wanted me to be here for 10 years - "I have got full confidence in the manager that he will make the right decisions in the summer to strengthen this team. And next year we'll have another good go in the Champions League and run Chelsea closer in the League. "We knew when we won the Champions Cup we weren't the finished team. We knew we had a bit of luck on the way there, although we deserved to win it. "We now have to pick ourselves up, and the FA Cup becomes even more important. "There is pressure on us because some of our results of late are not good enough because we are not finishing in front of goal. "It is something we need to address but it is quite clear how this team needs to improve. We are playing some really good football, keeping the ball well and not conceding many goals in the League. We just need to start scoring goals - starting against Arsenal.''

  17. I hope the next manager that comes in, brings with him some decent scouts as i feel they will be badly needed. With the number of positions we will need to fill i fear we will not be able to play the EPLs over inflated prices on many of the players.
  18. Newcatle will put the Graeme Souness era even further behind them by moving back to their training HQ tomorrow. United's first-team squad quit the £9 million complex in Benton for the club's Academy in October amid a spate of injuries. Souness blamed firm pitches at the training ground for the pulls, tears and strains suffered by his players early in the season. "Moving is a last resort," he said. "I have heard so-called experts offering their opinions on what we should be doing - but we've been doing this for a very long time and we have some extremely qualified people who advise us." But the Magpies' top stars have been back training on the lower pitches at Benton in recent weeks, while still based at the Academy. And Souness' successor in the manager's chair, Glenn Roeder, suggested the previous problems were caused by players simply wearing the wrong boots. Now, Roeder (left) will demonstrate his confidence in the state-of-the-art training HQ by moving the whole first-team operation back there in the morning.
  19. Newcatle sources have rubbished reports linking them with Villarreal striker Diego Forlan. The managerless Magpies were said to have sent a scout to Anfield on Wednesday to watch Forlan play for Uruguay against England. But no Newcastle official was present at the game. And the word from inside St James's Park is that there is no chance of United agreeing a deal for any player before they appoint a new permanent manager. Forlan won the "Golden Shoe" award along with Thierry Henry for Europe's top scorer last season after his move from Manchester United.
  20. Portugal and on-loan Newcastle midfielder Hugo Viana has virtually guaranteed his place at this summer's World Cup Finals, with Portugal team-mate Deco backing him to travel to Germany. The 23-year-old Portuguese midfielder was hugely impressive in his country's 3-0 friendly win against fellow World Cup finalists Saudi Arabia in midweek. Barcelona playmaker Deco called on Luiz Felipe Scolari for him to be included in his squad for the finals in Germany. “Hugo has great qualities and belongs in the squad,” said Deco, himself an integral part of the Portugal squad, and the focus of Scolari's bid to win the World Cup. Viana, who was unhappy on Tyneside, is currently on loan from Newcastle United at Valencia for the season, and is hoping to clinch a permanent move to the Spanish side.
  21. He didnt half lose the plot at Emre for the free kick we got in the first half.
