  4. Newcastle United star Charles N'Zogbia claims Lyon are interested in signing him. Reports emanating from France claim the Ligue 1 leaders have made an enquiry for the versatile performer. N'Zogbia has never hidden his desire to leave Newcastle with the player claiming last week Tottenham and Aston Villa were chasing his services. Newcastle moved quickly to reject that speculation, but now N'Zogbia says Lyon are hoping to lure him away from Tyneside. "There have been some changes at Newcastle recently. I have experienced six different managers in four years, and it is too much," N'Zogbia told Lyon Capitale. "Every season is getting worse and worse despite the lofty goals of the club. I therefore decided to leave, to try to find better exposure. "I am waiting. They (Lyon) may actually have contacted my agent, but I did not get feedback. "What is certain is that Lyon is a good club. Whether they really want me remains to be seen." N'Zogbia, who is contracted at St James' Park until 2012, admits Newcastle will have the final say on his future with Joe Kinnear keen to keep hold of the majority of his squad. "If Newcastle decided to keep me, I will stay. I will have no choice," concluded N'Zogbia.
  5. How much do you normally pay from Glasgow to the toon? Must be a lovely trip down on a May summer morning down the east coast. Usually pay £20-£25 and have to get from Cardross to Glasgow first, if booked early enough can get a single for about £9. I do not have a problem with that and have paid that price give or take a fiver either way since I have been coming down but both the Spurs and Everton game I had already booked and when I went to book another train for the changed fixture they have been looking at another £60. Early kick offs on a Sunday are fucking me up too...

  9. More than one in three West Ham and Newcastle United fans are considering giving up their season-tickets, according to research. Virgin Money's Football Fans' Inflation Index, which has tracked match day costs since January 2006, says die-hard supporters could give up their tickets as the credit crunch bites. While 24 per cent of season-ticket holders are considering cancelling, with three per cent thinking about giving up going to all games and 21 per cent considering cancelling and buying tickets when it suits, the survey says clubs most at risk are West Ham, Newcastle and Blackburn, where as many as 37 per cent are having second thoughts about renewing. Even fans of Premiership and European champions Manchester United are feeling the pinch with 36 per cent considering giving up season tickets. Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the Football Supporters Federation, said: "Over the past 15 years football inflation has consistently exceeded ordinary inflation and the industry may well now pay the price for its short-sightedness in allowing that to happen. "At the end of the day watching football is a leisure activity and it would be very surprising if it was immune from the sharp effects of the recession, particularly at the top end of the game where prices are so high."
  10. I e-mailed the club about cancelling my 3 year season ticket on the back of this and they got back to me and said I could. I really do not want to give it up but the Spurs game and Everton game alone I have effectively thrown away £120-£130 on games I never even got to. Since GNER changed over to National Express unless you book tickets within the first week they go live they are looking for crazy money compared to what I have paid for the 8 years and with all the fixture changes we keep getting shafted. Have already missed 4 games and now won't make the Everton game and will need to book a hotel if I go to the Man United game. You also cannot get rid of your tickets anymore which makes it seem even more expensive. Decisions, decisions....

  15. TRANSFER GOSSIP Manchester City have sent a high-powered delegate to Italy to try to secure a stunning world-record deal for AC Milan's Kaka. It is understood City are prepared to wait until the summer to land the Brazilian if they can persuade the Serie A club to part with him - but they want to do business now. (Daily Express) City are expected to agree a deal to sign Craig Bellamy for about £12m this week after preparing an improved bid for the Wales striker. (The Times) Man City bid for Bellamy rejected Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to scupper Liverpool's attempts to lure Brazilian defender Anderson from Fluminense. (The Sun) Wigan midfielder Wilson Palacios is wanted by Harry Redknapp, with the Tottenham manager preferring to offer player swaps rather than cash in deals. (The Independent) However, Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is refusing to sell his star players. (Daily Mirror) Redknapp is losing patience with left-back Gareth Bale and wants to sell him or use him as part of a deal to land Middlesbrough midfielder Stewart Downing. (Daily Mirror) Tottenham are pursuing Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones as Redknapp attempts to recruit an imposing target man, but the Black Cats are understood to be unwilling to sell to a club they regard as relegation rivals. (Daily Telegraph) Joe Kinnear will decide within the next 72 hours whether to swoop for Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson. (Daily Express) Newcastle midfielder Geremi has emerged as a target for Turkish club Besiktas, while FC Porto midfielder Raul Meireles may be making a £4m switch to St James' Park. (Daily Mail) Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear wants midfielder Nigel Quashie, whose three-month loan move to Birmingham from West Ham expires after this weekend, to help the Magpies stave off relegation. (Daily Mirror) Mikel Arteta has denied he could be heading to either Manchester City or Arsenal in a £12m move and the midfielder has pledged his future to Everton. (Daily Mail) Birmingham have told striker Kris Boyd his wage demands will have to be more realistic if his £3.8m move from Rangers is to go ahead. (Daily Mail) Palermo midfielder Mark Bresciano is said to be attracting interest from Fulham, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Newcastle. (Daily Telegraph) West Brom are tracking the progress of Greek international Angelos Charisteas as the striker remains unsettled at Bundesliga Zwei side Nurnberg. (The Independent) Hearts winger Andy Driver, who has attracted the attention of Everton and Burnley, has said he is in no rush to leave Tynecastle. (Daily Record) Ipswich are close to signing midfielder Luciano Civelli, who recently rejected a £1m move to AEK Athens. (Daily Star) Barnsley manager Simon Davey is keen to sign Bury striker Andy Bishop in a £400,000 deal. (Daily Star) OTHER FOOTBALL GOSSIP Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari's job is on the line in the wake of an astonishing bust-up with Nicolas Anelka. The French striker is angry at being a substitute for the last three games. (The Sun) Blues owner Roman Abramovich will decide on Scolari's future over the next eight weeks. (Daily Express) Chelsea will give Scolari until the summer to show he is up to the job of taking the club forward. The club's minimum expectation of their manager is that Chelsea should be in contention for the leading prizes at the end of the season. (The Times) Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho poured scorn on Scolari's Chelsea when he claimed the team that lost 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday were unrecognisable from the side he built during his time there. "I didn't see Chelsea," said the Inter Milan manager. (The Independent) Rafael Benitez's contract talks are on the brink of collapse over the Liverpool manager's demands for total control of Liverpool's transfer policy. (Daily Star) Midfielder Ryan Giggs will be handed a new Manchester United contract to keep him at Old Trafford until the end of the 2010 campaign. (Daily Mirror) AND FINALLY Chelsea can expect a frosty reception during their FA Cup third-round replay with Southend. Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson said: "I don't go in the away dressing room much. But unless the heater has been fixed since the last game, there's no doubt it will be cold in there. "The away dressing room at Chelsea was very nice. It had carpet. Ours has a concrete floor — and even that's chipped. "There's certainly no room to have a massage — unless they decide not to turn on the big bath and have one in there!" (The Sun)
