And the underlying difference is unfortunately religion. Didn't we make Pakistan and Bangladesh? It was part of independence but the key factor is that both of those are Muslim states. There are Hindus in those countries and Muslims throughout India but the countries represent "havens" - a bit like Ulster was supposed to be for Protestants.

I've considered it, but I'd look and feel really weird without glasses as I've had them since I was 7. Plus the cost puts me off a bit - or at least it used to, not sure what sort of charge there is these days. £600 an eye. I've considered it for the last few years, but they still don't know what the risk is in later life. £1200 would pay for itself though considering I must pay £200+ a year for lenses and solutions. Did anyone really notice or care about the Muslim population of the UK until the gulf war/July the Seventh? Didn't you say there are no "blacks" in the north east ? It's not a paradise but I don't see any huge problems - since you refuse to describe how its affected your life I can only go by my experience - I can walk for 5 minutes from where I work in one of the worlds biggest financial and business centres to a pretty authentic Asian area filled with great curry houses - I'd call that not bad at all. I lived in Bradford for two and a half years - a good example of why you're talking shit. Yes there are very Asian dominated areas but that doesn't stop friendly integration on a daily basis. The University is in one of those areas and people mix all the time. Am I supposed to be disgusted by Asian food shops or clothes shops?

You're assuming a constant birthrate and 100% religion retention with 100% "activism" - the latter of which is already a tiny minority even in second or third generation. Christianity is being replaced by Islam in the first world ? [ I won't use the term "taking over" as I realise it may offend some of the more sensitive elements here]. I don't know how many muslim babies will automatically follow their parents religion, nobody does, but in the current world it would appear the vast majority do precisely that. Where will that change ? When will you learn to count and realise that 2 or 3% of a 60m population (taking the UK) cannot "replace" the 60% who still call themselves Christians or the 30% who just don't believe? As I said I don't expect progress in Pakistan but I do see it in the recent middle east upheaveal. I'm worried that in response to the rise of Islam as LM would put it, people who would have ticked no religion in ours will be tempted to tick Christian again just to make a point. I wish they'd revised the question.

Having missed it as a kid, I had chicken pox when I was 32 and it was absolutely horrible - one "new age" thing I'm completely in favour of is parents having chicken pox parties as I honestly wouldn't wish it on any adult (usual disclaimer for Ashley et al). Luckily I haven't had shingles yet though.

I occasionally suffer eczema on my shins/calves which is made worse as it itches in bed which leads to me scratching it while half-asleep. Hasn't been bad the last couple of years as I've found a cream (Eumovate) which is nice and mild for occasional use and stops the itching. Like you I also get occasional conjunctivitis - as I've said before whoever released chloramphenicol ointment without prescription should be deified.

I always find Holywood films where they take someone attractive and try and muntify them so they can do a makeover back to the real deal funny as invariably I think I'd probably prefer to do them in "pig" mode.
