A time to remember and thank those who fought and died both in the distant past and more recent conflicts. Also a chance to remember those in the forces who continue to serve the country in far flung places. Thoughts with their families, especially those who will have to spend Christmas without their loved ones. Craig 6374 Posted November 13, 2006 Share Posted November 13, 2006 Watched a program last night which was about the D-Day landings filmed in colour. They had footage ofthe men being loaded into boats in Torbay and also showed footage of the beaches from the boats out at sea and you could quite clearly see the hundreds of bodies lying on the beach. The were interviewing the veterans who were told that many of them would die or be seriously injured and that if that was the case, their comrades were instructed to leave them and keep advancing until they had achieved their primary objective (to take the beach). All of them were reduced to tears when recalling the fact that they had to defy their human instinct helping others and push on to take the beaches. Very moving programme, makes me feel old by saying it but the youth of today would do well to take serious interest in what happened back then.
