Luque a doubt for Saturday?

Albert Luque is a doubt for Newcastle's Premiership clash with Fulham on Saturday after picking up an injury playing for Spain.

Luque was only introduced as a second half substitute for the final 16 minutes of their World Cup qualifying draw against Serbia & Montenegro on Wednesday.

The former Deportivo La Coruna marksman picked up an ankle injury shortly after coming on but Spain had already made their three substitutions and he had to play on until the final whistle.

Luque will now undergo tests back at Newcastle but early indications say that he will not be able to make Saturday's visit of Fulham to St James' Park.

News of Luque's problems will be a further headache to Graeme Souness who has been struggling with injury problems since the start of the season.

Luque made a promising debut at Newcastle but it now looks unlikely that he will be able to play alongside fellow new signings Michael Owen and Nolberto Solano against Fulham.

Does NUFC have no reserve or academy footballers at all?

Is there no one even remotely good enough to be given a chance in the 1st team?

Couldn't we play Alan O'Brien on the left with Zoggy & Parker in the middle and Bowyer on the right?

Isn't it worth a go (other clubs do it, f**king hell - Man U play Fletcher!!!)

or does every one of our players HAVE to be an experienced international?

We're more likely to play Shola out of position (one of the wings - as if he isn't ineffective enough) than to try an acedemy/reserve player who actually plays in that position.

i agree.... always picks the right option and rarely miss places a pass, just because he isn't as eye catching as Ronaldo doesn't make him a bad player

Anal Oliver in the chronicle claiming everyone who went away on International duty is coming back fully fit. Still, not the most reliable of sources...  :D

If anyone had pointed him to the Sky Sports website last night, he would have wrote a raging article.

Any Football Association that takes a player away to play in internationals and gives them back to a club injured should have to pay their wages until they're fit to play again.  FACT.

G14 starts legal fight with Fifa

Europe's elite clubs are suing Fifa over the issue of the release of players for international duty.

The G14 group wants Fifa to provide insurance and compensation to clubs for players who are injured while representing their countries.

It says Fifa's regulations are an abuse of the body's dominant position.

And G14 has backed Charleroi's fight for financial help after Abdelmajid Oulmers was sidelined for eight months when hurt playing for Morocco.

Oulmers tore ankle ligaments in last the game against Burkina Faso last November and was subsequently out of action for the rest of the campaign.

Charleroi paid for Oulmers' surgery and his salary even though he was unable to play.

Fifa refuses to recognise or negotiate with the G14 group.

The case officially opened in the Charleroi Commercial Court on Monday.

G14 argues that Fifa's refusal to contribute towards players' salaries - even though clubs lose money when they suffer injuries in international matches - is illegal. "As it is G14's wish to seek a once and for all clarification if these regulations are legal, it is sensible for us to join this case," said G14 general manager Thomas Kurth. English clubs Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are members of the G14 group, which has 18 members.

I was under the impression that England already did this - i'm sure i remember something about Jamie Redknapp being injured whilst on england duty and the FA being saddled with his wages for almost a year.

They should have to pay their wages for the period of injury and the games when they come back but aren't at 100%, their medical and physio expenses and just extra for fucking up on of your assets. Might stop their being so many stupid, pointless waste of time friendlies.

Its a complete joke that clubs pay millions to buy these players, pay their wages, their signing on fees, pay for their insurance, their medical costs and everything else. Yet because of tossers like FIFA, international teams can say, we want your player, we'll use them, maybe get them injured and you will then have your asset unavailable, but you can pay for them all that time we use them and all the time they're missing with injury, its laughable.
