It's the great leveller. Some Blacks, some Whites, some Geordies, some Cockneys, some Muslims, some Middle Class people.

It's a chip thing.

Do you have one?

Maybe I do have a chip on my shoulder.

I'll admit that it annoys me when people make assumptions based on my accent.

It annoys me when people think that white people never struggle.

Or that being middle class means you don't work hard.

There, I've done it. Anyone else want to try?

Seeing as having a chip on your shoulder means spoiling for a fight, I can think of someone who has one.

No, I think you're just a stereotypical whinging Pom. You're still going on about all of that? I think you've made your point about that on here already.

"But I'm from London and my accent's different wah wah wah."

Shut the fuck up.

Also, fuck off.

I've always thought of the Aussies as Americans who are good at sports. It's the Dutch that worry me, Americans with BRAINS! </sweepingGeneralisations>

Congrats on being wrong as to who invented the 'shoulder chip' and congrats on still having biggest one on the board.

I know what my issues are. I'm even brave enough to lay them open here.

I was trying to have a decent debate about the very things that hold us back. If you don't want to play, cool.

Yes, we all have a giant chip on our shoulder, especially about Southerners. There, that's what you wanted.

36468[/snapback]

No, that's not what I wanted.

There are a lot of fucked up views on both sides of the argument and I was hoping for a bit of honesty.

Forgive me if I misread you but I was merely assuming this was a case of someone with a chip on their shoulder starting a thread about people having chips on their shoulders. Perhaps that's why you've gotten the responses you have. I can't speak for anyone else but it's the reason I didn't take this thread seriously.

Alright, yes, I would say you will get people who judge people and treat them differently for pretty stupid reasons, accent being one of them. My Mrs is part Southern (not the good part ;) ) and her relatives can be right snotty bastids about where we live and the fact I'm not some high flying city banker. Mind, it's only the older generation that think this, the relatives our age couldn't give a shit.

Bascially, it used to piss me off but now I just treat it with the indifference it deserves really. You carry a chip on your shoulder over issues you'll drive yourself mad, which is why I just take the piss instead.

i have a chip that im working class but lead a middle class life!

Allelujah! A sensible comment!

Do you find yourself acting differently around more working class people to try and fit in?

Do you ever feel too working class if you're in a meeting or something?

nope, the only chip i have is that some of my mates accuse me of being 'posh'. then i have to remind them that i grew up in far worse conditions than them and that just cos my mam and dad have money now doesnt mean that i have. i constantly skint, not rich by association!
