oh fuck Im gonna look like one of the sandal wearers here but...

when compared to other criminals ie rapists, muggers, murderers etc and the sentences we see handed out to some of them isnt nearly 4 years a bit harsh? dont get me wrong its a terrible thing to do, it risks lives, caused panic etc and looking at the fact he already has a previous conviction for the same thing (which could be a counter argument against me) isnt it possible this kid has a problem? (apart from being a nob!)

Yet again I want to point out that I agree what he did was bad.

yes mate I accept the bold bit. However, he may not.

I also agree that a 4 year sentence when compared against certain other things is a joke.

It just makes me despair that people can be so selfish and stupid to do things like that. Mad, quite mad.

If a previous conviction is taken into account against someone, then I'm all in favour of that as well, as I simply cannot agree with the idea that previous offences should be hidden away..after all it all builds up a character profile and a threat assessment for the future.

Anyway.....time for kip.....

have a good un.......

agree with it all, I think the problem in my argument isnt how long he got but how much less severe the sentences are in other 'worse' crimes because at the end of the day he didnt kill anyone, all little old ladies in the area held onto their purses and suffered no broken bones

EDIT: and I thought you said you were gannin to bed? :)

Im off now

Previous convictions are taken into account when sentencing, but not as evidence of guilt during a trial. You don't have to be an expert on jurisprudence to understand the reasons for this.

I find it strange you bring this particular case up as an example of lax sentencing. Personally, I would think 4 years is more than what I would expect. It was a ridiculously selfish (and probably thoughtless) thing to do, but his life is now effectively ruined - he'll probably never get a decent job with that conviction. Considering what some scumbags get away with, that's harsh imo.

Sentencing is still a controversial issue in this country. This lad has been a stupid prick like, but the lad who mowed down and killed those two blokes on Westgate Road, with no licence, tax, or insurance, got 5 years earlier this week. Only 1 year more than this lad. Judges are about as consistent as referees these days.

Totally agree there Renton. It was a stupid act, especially given when he did it but it's by no means a lax sentence. Especially, as you say, given what some people get sentenced.

It wasn't to highlight the sentence mate, just the stupidity of the guy in question...

and questioning why or what we have as a country are doing or have done to produce such bloody idiots .....
