peasepud 59 Posted October 11, 2005 Share Posted October 11, 2005 oh fuck Im gonna look like one of the sandal wearers here but... when compared to other criminals ie rapists, muggers, murderers etc and the sentences we see handed out to some of them isnt nearly 4 years a bit harsh? dont get me wrong its a terrible thing to do, it risks lives, caused panic etc and looking at the fact he already has a previous conviction for the same thing (which could be a counter argument against me) isnt it possible this kid has a problem? I also agree that a 4 year sentence when compared against certain other things is a joke. It just makes me despair that people can be so selfish and stupid to do things like that. Mad, quite mad. If a previous conviction is taken into account against someone, then I'm all in favour of that as well, as I simply cannot agree with the idea that previous offences should be hidden away..after all it all builds up a character profile and a threat assessment for the future. You don't have to be an expert on jurisprudence to understand the reasons for this. I find it strange you bring this particular case up as an example of lax sentencing. Personally, I would think 4 years is more than what I would expect. It was a ridiculously selfish (and probably thoughtless) thing to do, but his life is now effectively ruined - he'll probably never get a decent job with that conviction. This lad has been a stupid prick like, but the lad who mowed down and killed those two blokes on Westgate Road, with no licence, tax, or insurance, got 5 years earlier this week.
