I'll be travelling the US and Canada for two months in summer/early autumn, starting in Boston. Any advice on where to go, where to stay and what to do? I'll be in Boston for 3-4 days.

I spent a day there last year but most of that was just spent walking around and getting a feel for the place. Really loved it there though-I've been to most of the major cities in the States, and it's probably my favourite after New York and San Francisco. Really attractive, with a very friendly atmosphere.

As for things to do...the Freedom Trail is touristy but it's great for getting to see all of the best parts of the city. Also went to Harvard on the metro-not much to do there, but again, it's a nice place to walk around. Food-wise, again it's very tourist-focused but the market at Fanueil Hall was great. Cheap, tasty and loads of choice.

Fuckin "MA" makes me laugh. MA. Like its a country. I've won £25 on who wants to be a millionaire machines a good 5 times and my specialist subject is geography, but why should I know what MA is. Do you say Ipswich SU, or fuckin Liverpool ME? Yanks have a grip over these people in foreign countries, this goes to show.

I've got a mate that lives there. I'll try to find some stuff out off him.

Cheers, that would be great!

I don't mind doing a few touristy things as long as they're not total rip-offs, so I think I'll do the Freedom Trail, sounds like a good way to get around the city.

Especially when it's "Paris, France" and "London, England" too.

I really liked it when I went, the city has a nice European 'feel' to it and is less frantic than New York. Probably my favourite US city (although I've never done the west coast). This was a while ago so I can't offer specifics but there's plenty to do and you probably won't feel like you're going to be murdered wandering around the centre and common. Oh, and Harvard is there too if you fancy hanging out with the frat boys.
