Had an MRI scan to check for brain tumours etc and was told i'd find out the results in 3 weeks.

Its been over 2 months and still no news! So I rang them and asked an apparently they haven't even looked at the results yet?!!!!!!

I'm fucking fuming!

Is this an unacceptable amount of time to wait? and who should I complain to if not?

I would guess you were referred by your GP and if so, they want shooting for not being involved already. It seems a rediculous time to wait. If your GP did refer you, get in touch today and give them hell. They will know how to get to the right person for you.

If no joy within 24 hours, contact the local paper.

Good luck

Thanks i'm glad its not just me who thinks this is a crazy amount of time to wait!

I best point out its not expected that I have a brain tumour... its more to rule out the possibility... although that does mean there is a possibility, even if its not likely.

I'll speak to my GP next week and get them to chase it up... its just bloody ridiculous this wait! I mean if I did have a brain tumour (unlikely) then surely 2 months could be the difference between living and dying? Might not be this bad in my case, but i'm sure i'm not the only one waiting ridiculous amounts of times for them to even look at the scans let alone do anything about them if there's a problem!

Get onto your gp. I mean they should have been in touch by now with your results, but honestly if I'm getting tested for brain tumours I'd have been chasing them myself ages ago.

Why have you waited so long?

Just kind of put it to the back of my mind and got on with life tbh... no point in worrying about stuff you can't control.

However its starting to get ridiculous now which is why I rang them.

Oh I forgot to mention I did ring them about a month ago and got the same answer... forgot about that for a moment there!

I didnt realise my GP would be able to do anything about it so never considered speaking to them... would I need to make an appointment or can u speak to GP's on the phone?

Obviously a stressful wait but I'd be surprised if they haven't looked at the scan at least and found nothing grossly abnormal, i.e. it's a communication cock up rather than a clinical cock up. I take it whatever symptoms you have have not worsened in the mean time?

No they havent which is one of the reasons i've not been too stressed about it tbh. Apparently the scans are of the consultants desk but she hasn't looked at them yet is all the receptionist could tell me so not sure if this means the people who took the scans had a look and filed them under "non urgent" or something? Not sure how these things work.

Its only now that its 2 months in and I want them to look at other possibilities for my symptoms that i've started to get annoyed... plus the fact I would prefer to have a brain tumour ruled out asap as its not nice knowing there's that possibility... I think the thing thats made me a bit more stressed is the story in the paper of the guy who had a brain tumour that the docs missed for ages. Got me thinking about my situation a bit.

Leave a message at reception and request that your gp rings you when they're free.

I might go in and see them next week tbh as wouldn't mind talking to them about the next step they will take to diagnose my problems if the MRI scans come back as normal.

You're taking it much better than I would've done, I'd be up worrying every night. Banging their door down to see if am fucked, absolutely shocking. If I was you I'd claim compensation, for worry caused, seriously I would that is a disgrace.

Surely if you had a tumour if they knew 6 weeks earlier more could be done about it??????

How does it sum this country up and what is the relevance of your question?

Yes, that's a chomp, well done.

Shit services, people treat like numbers rather than human beings, that does sum the country up. Never mind what the relevance is, you not got a mountain to fall off?

Wow, straight in with bizarre personal attacks, as usual. Why don't you answer the question? As if we don't why.

That groundhog day poster feels more appropriate to me. Either way it's boring as fuck like most the threads on here nowadays.

Aye when you get hold of them. You're enough to induce depression man.

I would have hoped it was a brain specialist not a teacher? :D

I mentioned on here me dad's been through 2 bouts of cancer. He got a cyst on his nose almost 3 months ago and he knows to get shit like that looked at asap so he hammered his GP for a referral. Earliest appointment was 6 weeks.

The morning of the appointment they rang to say he'd have to rearrange cos the doctor was on leave. So he asked for another appointment. Waited and waited, then on 01/10 a letter arrived on his mat, dated 31/09 it said they'd see him at 2pm on the 31st :D

Ridiculous isn't it!!! Its like they dont treat it seriously or something! Like someone else said they treat you like numbers and not like people. I know this has decended in to a bit of a slagging match but like Tuca said 6 weeks can make a huge difference in tumour cases.
