Barney 0 Posted October 4, 2011 Share Posted October 4, 2011 Schlupp NEWCASTLE United are understood to be monitoring Leicester City starlet Jeffrey Schlupp. The Chronicle understands United are keeping tabs on the exciting 18-year-old striker, who is also attracting interest from Stoke City and Liverpool. The teenager is under contract with the Foxes until 2013, but the Championship outfit are already fearing the worst with the striker’s performances beginning to catch the eye on the football scouting circuit, where he is the talk of the football talent-spotting regiment in the Premier League. Interestingly, Schlupp can also operate as a winger or left-back and has helped the Foxes to the fringes of the play-off pack in the second tier. Speaking about his impressive breakthrough on to the first-team stage with big-spending Leicester, Schlupp said: “I feel like I am proving myself at the higher level and hopefully I can get more goals. “I have played left-back or centre midfield, but now I have played in my right position. “I want more games as a striker. It has been hard for the manager to bring in young players because of all the money we have been spending. “However, it is great to have the chance and score the goals. “I am in the mix now and hopefully I can give the manager a bit of a headache.” United, of course, are set to continue with their policy of snapping up young talent rather than go with tried and tested high earners. With the likes of Haris Vuckic, Shane Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi beginning to flourish in and around the first team, this has caught the imagination of fans who believe the days of big spending are unlikely to return with Mike Ashley at the helm. Schlupp was born in Hamburg and has been capped by Germany Under-18s and is of Ghanaian descent. However, after being schooled in Milton Keynes he is still eligible to play for England and may end up representing England, Ghana or Germany. Sven-Goran Eriksson elevated Schlupp to first-team level this pre-season after being impressed with his capabilities during the summer. There were several Premier League scouts assembled for Leicester’s 4-0 hammering of derby, with Schlupp not disappointing them as he bagged his fifth goal of the campaign. Schlupp bagged a hat-trick on his debut for Leicester, becoming the first player to do so since 1945, against Rotherham in the Carling Cup first round back in August, and he was instantly removed from Eriksson’s list of players who were available for loan. Last season Schlupp was loaned out to Brentford in League One, where he netted six goals in nine matches and played in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final in the 1-0 loss to Carlisle United at Wembley Stadium. Meanwhile, United will take a strong team to Leyland tonight to face Bolton Wanderers in the FA Premier Reserve League (kick-off 7pm). It is believed several players who did not get a run-out at Wolves may get an opportunity to top up their pitch time at the home of the Lancashire FA. Players like Danny Guthrie, Dan Gosling, James Perch and Sylvain Marveaux are all thought to be involved. United could end the night at the top of the table if they beat Bolton, with the Academy side also currently lording it at the top of the Under-18 Group D. With the money we have too, we don't have to sell, so would take a pretty big bid to persuade us to sell. Also saying he can play wide or at left back isn't really right. Haha Schluppcessful, that's a new one, thought I'd heard all the Schlupp puns. Think we've got a great chance now the teams starting to gel. Not conceded in 4 games, unbeaten in 5 it's looking good.
