Shame it ended up being such a one sided test. I can see the same happening at Durham this week. Although Woakes raplacing the injured Stokes might even things up a touch.

Aye, I'm not a massive fan of woakes. There's enough batting talent in there to bring in a better specialist bowler. That's where the game will be won. Barstow could easily move up to 6, with moeen at 7. I'd rather give Plunkett another go - he's got genuine pace and can bat a bit too

I think Woakes might bowl alright at Durham if there's something in the pitch.

Seems to be bowling alright against Durham today. At Edgbaston like.

They might give that Ball a go instead of Woakes like. Woakes isn't bad but as Agnew was saying on TMS the other day, whenever you mention his name to an England fan their shoulders just slump.

Needs to find a yard of pace if he'll ever be a test standard bowler because so many of the pitches are good batting tracks. If it's not doing a lot he's there to hit.

Aye I would agree with that. I think he'll do fine against Sri Lanka but against better teams he'll not cut it at his current pace.

Had a canny couple of days out at the test like. The weather yesterday afternoon was glorious too.

Was nice to see Sri Lanka make something aproaching a game of it on Sunday. And a great achievment for Cook yesterday.

On TMS Andrew Samson was saying it was third highest deficit in test cricket to be overhauled to make the opposition bat again.

It was a shame they were so poor in the first innings. Hopefully they can continue their form from the second innings on to Lords.

Looked like the pitch became more benign as the match wore on but they still batted a lot better in the second innings. It's not like it was a poor batting pitch before that.

Compton's place must be under pressure ahead of the Pakistan series

Can't see there's any way he'll keep his place. Mind you Vince is struggling a bit too. He needs a score too.

I'd put Root at 3, move Bairstow up to 4, bring back Stokes for Compton and Buttler for Vince. That'd be one exciting middle order. Moeen should arguably come in higher up the order too - maybe above Buttler, so Jos can just come in and have a swish.

Compton's gone like, unless he gets a big 2nd innings score. Vince will get more time. Crazy suggeting rearranging practically the whole top order btw.

I don't see why. They've been far too prone to a batting collapse for a good couple of years now.

Anyway, I'm playing fantasy cricket selector

Borthwick is averaging 82 in the championship this year with a few hundreds already and he's playing at 3. Would give another spin option too.

I don't think they'll want to change things round too much but maybe Root and Bairstow moving up with Butler coming back in is another option. I agree with Alex that Vince will get more time.

Dropping Vince after 3 tests ffs  Welcome back to the 1990s. Have a word with yourself man, Gloom. Sam Robson or Scott Borthwick as replacement for Compton is the most likely change I reckon.

When did Buttler last play a first class game or a test match? I'll take a guess and say it was before Xmas v Pakistan in the UAE. You can't advocate playing people on form in the long format of the game then just say hoy him in. Well, you can, but it's fucking stupid :P;)

Well no it's Borthwick or someone like Robson or Bell Drummond or Stoneman that I'd advocate. But Butler has been a big part of the test squad for a couple of years now so I don't think he'll be totally ignored. He does need to play some county games though. Fuck knows what the schedule is now though. I think he's not had the chance to play 4 day since he came back from the IPL as they seem to just be on one day and T20 games at the minute.

Buttler coming in at 8 would be class. Like boom boom afredi used to for Pakistan.

Clearly things aren't going to be shaken up to the extent I suggested in between series, Alex. I also think Vince will get more of a chance to prove himself. But like I said, I'm playing fantasy selector.

I do think there's a case for root, our best batsman, and Bairstow, our form player, moving up the order. And for Buttler coming back into the mix.
