Sunderland Takeover Collapsing

Recommended Posts

Nicked this from N-O:

SUNDERLAND AFC was left reeling today after four of the eight members of Niall Quinn's takeover consortium pulled out of the deal.

The Echo understands the four to have backed out of the proposed takeover are key investors Sean Mulryan, Paddy Kelly, Tom Moran and Pat Power.

They are believed to have pulled out of the deal because the consortium could not secure the services of a top class manager.

It is a huge blow for fans after ten weeks of intensive takeover discussions, but the club hopes to get the talks back on track over the next few days

He's still negotiating with Roberto Mancini about buying his apartment in the north east.

Will be interesting to see how much they have to spend. There's an awful lot of people in this consortium by the sounds of it. Not sure if that will means they individually won't be that involved so won't invest too heavily, or on the other hand there are so many that a few extra million is not that much when spread about.

Just spending £16m to buy out Murray is pointless. Another £40m to clear the debt puts them on a good championship level. Another £20m will ensure promotion and possibly establish them at a Pompey/Fulham level. £78 million and still way off the pace.

I think thats their "best" case scenario - talk of actually challenging would require another huge sum and primarily a good manager which is doubtful - I don't think they'll get O'Neill now.

You'd think they are going to turn into Chelsea the way some mackems go on. Accusing us of jealousy and saying "I bet the mags are shitting themselves"

Errr......why?
