I got an email this morning saying I've won a video ipod. I entered the competition ages ago. So the big question is are they much good or should I sling it on ebay?

I don't see the point in the video or photo versions tbh, but they're definitely good if you want to listen to music/podcasts.

video iPod is alright if you're making frequent hour long journeys in which you're just the passenger.

watching Ricky Gervais' video podcasts is almost worth getting a video iPod by itself.

I just watch that on iTunes tbh. And they're so short as to make them barely worth the effort anyway - I've got a canny few that I keep meaning to watch. I only use public transport when my car's in the garage, so a video ipod is pretty useless to me.

I've got an itrip, but I use the old fashioned cassette plugged into the headphones socket thing. The sound quality is much better and you don't have to mess about changing frequencies on long journeys.

I have a Creative Zen Touch and it's lovely, a bit dated now like as it's a few years old. Also it's massive but I always have a bag so it's not a problem to me. Can't fault the model though, apart from the shite headphones that come with it.

I've got one of them and it does me just fine.

I heard that the iTrip was poor for Car stereos as the iPod had to be kept pretty much on top of the stereo.

my problem is that I don't have a cassette deck in the car I'm using at the moment, so instead of buying the £10 cassette adaptor I'd have to fork out £30 for an iTrip (or equivalent) which has received poor reviews.

I don't think it's a question of it being on top of the stereo, it's more a question of how good your car aerial is really. On my last car, it just refused to pick up any signal at all from the iTrip, which is why I went down the cassette route. I'd always get cars with cassette players from now on because I have no need for a CD player (my entire collection is on my ipod).

My iTrip is the original one mind, so it might have improved since then, although nowt beats the cassette thing.

is it not the case these days that it's nigh on impossible to get a new car (and therefore an increasing number of decent used cars) with a tape deck instead of a CD player?

Aye maybe, but I'm not a big enough nerd for that! :icon_lol:

Fish, I think you can still get cars with cassettes in if you ask for them. If not, I'll just have to get my next car ipod enabled like this dweeb here!

I'm also one who doesn't have a cassette deck in my car, I've been meaning to buy an iTrip but can't be arsed, all my cd's are in my car anyway.

an have an iPod video which isn't really much use to me, I could stack it with porn but it's too complicated a process, plus I'm on the type who would want to watch porn on a train or bus....

I didn't say that I had one though did I :icon_lol:

Although I have enquired if such an item exists for the Bose stereo system that's factory fitted in the Mazda RX-8's :(

Ohhhhhh, have you now! How awfully terribly posh!

And is it? I would think a lot of car manufacturers will be having to think about this option tbh. I know you can get BMWs that are ipod-ready.

Yes it is but it costs about £120 I think.

Whilst we're on the subject...

[shameless plug] I have an Alpine head unit and iPod interface for sale if anyone's interested. [/shameless plug]

Aldi were selling car stereos with a usb interface for mp3 players a few weeks ago and I'm sure they were less than £50.

I've got a Belkin FM transmitter and it works fine (except you need to set all your songs on the ipod to about 3/4 volume or you need to have the volume of the stereo really loud). I've never had any problem with reception and so far I've been as far as Leeds with it.

I'm sure a direct connection to the stereo would work better but for the fifteen or so quid I paid it's been excellent.
