  1. The bigger the lie... Look at the perception of the Thatcher years as some sort of necessary evil to save the country from terminal decline. But we had the 6th biggest economy when she came to power and it was the 6th biggest after even though the Soviet Union collapsed. She increased public spending because she'd made so many people unemployed so she increased taxes to pay for it (except for the rich). The country ran a deficit for almost all of her years in power until the (short lived) boom at the end of the 80s and the deficit was rising again by the time she went, even though she sold off all the family silver and had North Sea oil and gas revenues. The rate of inflation was nearly as high when she left power as when she took over but the spirallin inflation back then was a sign Labour couldn't run the economy. Then there were the crippling interest rates which caused many to default on their mortgage payments. And she basically created the public housing crisis (or at the very least made a crisis a lot worse). But she's made out as a saviour because there were a few strikes in the 70s (a decade where inequality was nothing like as bad as it was by the time she went).

  3. Again, I cannot stress this enough - CT is still trying to work out how to explain to his kids that he's voted away their future on a whim. Everything he says needs to be viewed through that prism.

  5. Apple can integrate it into Apple TV, Amazon into Prime, Netflix into, well, Netflix. Facebook don't have a product for it. Not that that's to stop them building one with the wealth they have.

  7. This is old, but it did the rounds again recently when the qualifiers were on and it's still a really good read: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2012/feb/15/forgotten-story-17-november-1993

  8. In that vein, made this tonight, fairly straightforward (preemptively cut out the vegetable stock though, it'd have been swimming in liquid otherwise, a splash of water to loosen up the spices was enough). Brown basmati rice, lime pickle, onion parathas from the freezer aisle at Asda, Bob's your uncle or aunt depending on how they choose to identify.

  10. Aye, think you're trying to look for wolves where there are none mate. I get why, because the faux outrage that surrounds the day to day 'issues' of the rich and famous are often trumped and and utilised for narrative pushing - but this one is the real deal, and I think solidarity needs to be shown with the victims, and changes need to be made so ensure that such appalling things don't happen in future.
