  8. I saw a comment from Paul Mason that the future for Labour should be to concentrate on more modern "working class" groups like the low paid workers in the cities as well as nurses, health workers etc and they should leave the hardline europhobe racists behind. I reckon a venn diagram of old, leave/racist, northern labour voters which included the "God bless the queen/nuke em all" camp would be pretty overlapping. I reckon he has a point. BTW did anyone notice how the BBC edited out Johnson looking like a tramp and laying the wreath upside down and substituted old footage? Maybe the cunts should photoshop Michael Foots "donkey" jacket out of history just for balance.

  11. Was actually a good game for once. They play some decent football and were all over us for the first 30 minutes or so but we dug in a played some good football ourselves after that. Almiron managing to hit ASM was comical. I'm beginning to feel sorry for the fucker now, it's not like he's doing a massive amount wrong when he's getting these chances, most of the time he hits the target (albeit without any great power) and if it had been anyone else they'd have had at least a couple by now. He needs a goal like Clark's, if he'd hit that well the keeper probably would have saved it. And in case I've not mentioned it before, VAR is the worst thing that's happened to football since Hillsborough. The celebrations for Yedlin's goal were muted because everyone was waiting for it to be given offside and then we had to wait for ages in the dark without a clue what was going on behind the scenes. It's without doubt going to ruin the atmosphere at games all over the world. And then as was proved yet again yesterday at Anfield, they can't come up with the right decision regardless. Fucking shite!

  16. I'd go back earlier to the constant change of manager when it came to derby day as beating 'the mags' trumped anything else. Their problems brushed under the carpet, buried and left to grow and grow till they were completely fucked and nosedived two divisions and fail to even get out of that lower league. But they beat the mags and got six-in-a-row.© They are just like Leeds under Ridsdale the only difference being Ridsdale fucked it up going for the champions league, the mackem's holy grail which has fucked them up for hopefully a generation was just beating the mags. They even manage to get less sympathy than Leeds United due to the multi examples of their lack of class in stinking out the divisions they slid out of. Never mind. Sniff.

  26. To give credit where its due our form has really improved since Steve Bruce admitted his own tactics didn't work and that he'd have to revert back to Benitezs style of play. 10 points from 15 available since then where prior to that we'd managed 5 from 21 including getting smashed by Leicester, losing to the team currently rooted to the foot of the table and been knocked out of the cup.

  29. Spot on. The atmosphere the fans generated is a good reason they are where they are. I think it’s Rayvin who pointed to how absolutely shocking their home form was (obviously the away form was poor but it was still better than their home) when they were in the Championship, their players didn’t want to play there to the point their top scorer literally asked to be recalled from loan so he could go somewhere else. I think they also burned a lot of bridges as teams that sent their youth players there saw the players suffer a torrent of abuse and likely regress. It’s not a coincidence that the vast majority of players that leave that club end up bitter as fuck about it. Agree on the owners, there was a window where they were doing all they could to get them up and sell, which would have probably worked and if the fans had accepted that and got behind the team it may have stood a better chance. Instead they become weirdly obsessed about how amazing the owners were but at the same time abusive and negative about the team any time there was a set back even really early in the season. Obviously the owners have made mistakes, but what does anyone expect? They’re total fucking amateurs and have less in the bank than a good portion of Championship players, but as you say the fan base have had a good hand in this mess too and as per usual are blaming anything and anyone (including this weird ‘the mags have done this’) to make it seem like they’re actually a decent fan base just down on their luck.

  32. Arena on the BBC iPlayer, 'A British guide to the end of the world'. Well worth watching, a documentary on the cold war and Britain's part in dealing with preparation including basically using soldiers as guinea pigs on Christmas island fast forwarding to the 80s and how to survive a nuclear war by sticking a a couple of doors against the wall.

  35. You get the impression the poor sap sent to report on their game didn’t enjoy it? “Sunderland and Gillingham must try again after a dour FA Cup first-round draw at the Stadium of Light. The sides will replay in Kent a week on Tuesday, after 90 tedious minutes failed to find a winner with both sides scoring thanks to goalkeeping howlers.” Sunderland 1-1 Gillingham https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50290243
