I see they are trying to discuss the overcrowding on Saturday completely missing/ignoring the fact that the overcrowding was occuring in the access areas but blaming fans for not sitting in allocated seats, to be fair a few of them pointed out that it was in tunnel but most of the thick cunts are too stupid to work it out. Wood did a job for last season. He was part of an unbeaten team and worked hard in defence at set pieces. His move to us also weakened a relegation rival. I wouldn't therefore call his move a failure.

It’s difficult to say if he was genuinely struggling at Burnley or that was the team as well. But it can’t have helped his confidence. Someone else mentioned imposter syndrome which is definitely a thing with certain players. As is the ability to handle playing in front of large crowds. Look at players who clearly liked playing in empty stadiums due to covid. There’s an expectation here now going forward. Is Chris Wood just shite? I don’t think he is. We got him because he was available and the circumstances but Howe still must’ve seen something in him otherwise we’d have looked elsewhere. Does Chris Wood believe he’s good enough to play in front of 52k fans for a team that could soon be in the Champions League? I don’t think he does. I hope he gets a decent move in the summer because he probably needs to move in for his own sake as well as from a selfish NUFC pov.

He did nothing wrong last season and is the more natural full back. Howe was vindicated though. Burn’s defensive attributes let him slot in as an extra centre back when Tripper advances further up the pitch on the other side. He continued to play Longstaff when many of us would have moved Joelinton back into central midfield, where he’s had his best games for us. And on paper ASM should have been more involved. Krafth and Manquillo - even Wood - came in to cover injuries last season and did okay because they were playing alongside better players

The stand, and its access points were built in the 60s. OK, they altered the turnstiles post-disaster which improved some level of crowd flow but people were still sent through that tunnel to access the majority of the terrace. It doesn't matter whether you're standing or sitting - the restricted access remains. Should have been razed to the ground as a mark of respect to those directly affected by events that day. I know someone who lost their best mate there and they are still unable to watch a match on the TV that's held at Hillsborough given it's much the same as it was 34 years ago.

an 8th place finish would have been fine before the season started. it would be disappointing if that's where we end up after the way we started the season, but even if it were to happen it'd still represent progress. i think it's unlikely but not impossible. we're seeing signs that our pre-world cup form might be slowing and it could become entrenched if we were to lose tripper, bruno and botman to long-term injury. i think we will sign at least a couple of quality players this window though to offset the inevitable injuries/slump in form. i also trust howe to work with an improve the reserve players were one or two called upon to plug gaps for a period of weeks or months, just as he did with krafth last season.

It's that slightly poisoned chalice of Champions League qualification versus Europa and Conference League. All may increase the appeal to players to some degree but only one gives you any noteable financial ability to put that appeal to work. Winning the Europa only nets around 8-9M Euro, runner up about half that. Just making the group stage of champions league will net you a minimum of double the winner of the Europa. Then each win adds approx 3M Euro (1M for a draw). If we make the Europa or Conference it's hard to see a scenario where that doesn't have a negative impact on our league campaign. If we make the champions league it will too, but we'll at least be able to bring in some quality players with the guaranteed prize money and exposure.

UEFA have tried to punish Man City and PSG in the past and I think both attempts failed on appeal. Spain has a different (stricter) system to us but we've seen both Real Madrid shitting themselves at not being able to meet the rules. Everton have spent very little over the last couple of years because they bet the house on a number of players who did absolutely nothing for them. But I can't think of anyone actually receiving any significant punishment for FFP breaches. What we have to contend with though is the new 'Newcastle rule' that the other PL clubs have brought in whereby the PL can veto any related party sponsorship deals that they feel aren't at a fair market value. We've yet to see what this will look like in operation but my guess is that it's going to end up in the courts at some point.

Change of subject, fucking utility bills: June 2022 £293 in credit (which they refunded) paying £146/month, they put it up to £258/month coming off a fixed tariff. July 2022 to Jan 2023, £248 in credit paying the above increased amount and yet they're putting it up to £304/month.
