Aye they finished 8th twice under Arteta before splunking 400M odd over 2 seasons and lo and behold suddenly they are challenging. Bit of perspective for the miserable twats questioning Howe right now. It took Arteta 4-5 years just to get into the CL and with a MUCH better foundation than what Howe and Nufc had 2 years ago.7 points

Well, the newest member of the Fishy family was born today. 12:14, weighing a healthy 8lbs 11oz (3.94kg). Baby Girl Fish seems pretty chill so far, but has a powerful set of lungs when riled. Hopefully get back home tomorrow. No way am I sleeping tonight, on a semi-comfortable chair in a ward of 4 newborns. Mrs Fish is spark out, so the little'un. NHS staff have been amazing.7 points

That's not really true tbh. The main reason cancer incidence has gone up (and 50:50 is correct) is because we're living to be older and not dying of other things first. I just make the point because otherwise it contributes to the belief people have contributed to their illness through lifestyle choice, or worse, some conspiracy nonsense, neither of which is helpful. đ5 points

Well you can always hope their extended CL run ends up in tears and impacts the league form enough for them to bottle it again Didnt use to mind Arsenal so much but Arteta really is an insufferable prick.4 points

So this Hester "donates" 10m to the tories and coincidentally gets public contracts worth 10s of millions and then the tories come under pressure to give him the 10m back so the contracts become "free". Win-win for racism then.3 points

Thing is, the game against Chelsea was turned on its head after an against the run of play brain fart and slice of bad luck for Palmer's opener. If we scored first I think their fans would have turned and we'd have gone on to win. But, as with Man Utd, Chelsea's team is peppered with quality individuals who can dig them out of trouble without any broader plan. Howe is getting criticism for sticking to his style, and I understand why it would be frustrating, but I don't think he's still rigidly adhering to the high intensity, high pressure we saw last season. Trouble is, when we are chasing the game that's our most reliable goal threat. And unfortunately we're quite often chasing the game because Dubravka isn't as good as Pope. So Howe is trying to change tactics but gets pulled back to the horse what bring him.3 points

Heads up to anyone who's interested. There's a "to scale" solar system trail on the coast being held this weekend. Think the sun and the inner solar system will be on longsands with Neptune and Pluto as far away as St Mary's lighthouse. For reference, if the sun is the size of a football, on this scale the next nearest star, Proxima Centauri, would be in Chicago. It's a nice walk although the weather is probably going to be shit. They have a permanent one in Melbourne and I'm hoping they will make a permanent version of this too. https://northtynesidesolartrail.co.uk/2 points

Just lying to people in general tbh. I know itâs been discussed and Renton or yourself mightâve been the first to make the point. But they got away with it talking about some future promised land, free of EU red tape and regulations with âsovereigntyâ reinstated, less immigration, greater prosperity etc. They canât get away with lying about stuff theyâve already caused though. Although talk of low taxes from the party that introduced a record tax burden whilst simultaneously destroying public services, making global inflation pressures even worse, making your mortgage costs thousands of pounds more and just generally making everyone bar the super rich and wealthy retirees significantly poorer is, what the Americans would call, a doozy2 points

Lads, he just sometimes says things that racists would say, but the thing that separates him from the racists that say the same stuff is that he just actually isn't racist. He just says the same stuff. And honestly it's really upsetting for him at the minute that people have leapt to the wrong conclusions about him.1 point

Howe obviously is neither flawless nor faultless. There are quite a few things I disagree with, especially his lack of rotation and substitutions. But overall I think he is still doing a terrific job and absolutely the right man currently. There is no need to look for greener gras tbh.1 point

I think thereâs something to that. But I also think you need to be pragmatic. If you donât deliver in the here and now youâll get the push eventually. Thereâs also the point about adaptability. Which relates to HMHMâs comments about how the game continually moves on. In any case, I think unless youâre at Man City / Liverpool / Real Madrid levels then you need to shape the way you play according to your opponents at times.1 point

Totally agree with this. I think expectations have got all fucked up because of the success of last season. All any of us should expect at this stage is for regular progress to be made at each transfer window, within the ridiculous confines of FFP, and for continuous investment to be made on the NON-FFP infrastructure stuff. That means that, at a zoomed out level, you see progress for the first team WITH BUMPS ALONG THE WAY, which we've had loads of those season. It's gonna be a really slow process though. And slow requires patience. From both fans and the owner. With fucking EVERYTHING. Fans turning on the players, the manager, the owners at this stage is probably inevitable cos people are thick arseholes, but everyone needs to fucking cool it and realise that you're not gonna turn this around in a matter of two years. It took Man City four years or something and they had none of the financial constraints we're operating under. If we start the revolving door with the manager now, I guarantee you it won't stop with Howe's replacement. People saw CL qualification last year and they thought that was the speed of growth they could expect from that point on. We all got carried away, myself included, thinking it was repeatable straight away. It's not and it was totally unreasonable to think like that. We ARE making progress and we'll do it again this summer. But it's gonna be slow as fuck for a while yet.1 point

A Horse walks into a bar. The bartender says, âHey, youâre in here a lot, are you an alcoholic?â The horse ponders for a minute then responds âI donât think I am.â And poof, he disappears. This is where philosophy students start to snicker, as theyâre familiar with Descartesâ famous postulate, âI think, therefore I am.â But telling you that first would be putting Descartes before the horse.1 point

Quite glad that Hughes isn't coming, purely for the Bournemouth connection, which doesn't seem healthy to me. Of course, this is from Edwards, so he is probably already here and has redecorated his office.1 point
