I don't have any issue with the club following the rules. If we break the rules, we'll face points deductions. Man City took the PL to court cos they had a sponsorship deal refused due to the new rules. We acted as witness on their behalf. We don't have to come up with our own separate legal challenge. And we aren't able to use PIF's muscle to our benefit because it's muscle is entirely financial and they've brought rules in specifically to prevent a situation where a PIF comes along and uses its financial muscle. It's testament to how shit our youth system was under Ashley that we were properly excited about Longstaff. He did have a good spell under Rafa but never was he ever an exciting player. Worked hard and gelled well in a midfield with Isaac Hayden (ridiculous I know). Hayden was a good player once upon a time but his body wasn't up to his combative nature. Because this was under Rafa the focus was on defensive stability and compressing space so it suited him. In a more expansive game Longstaff doesn't have the athleticism to keep up, he covers a lot of ground but at what seems a snail's pace. I don't see any future for him here and wish we sold him instead of Anderson. Miley is a superior player already with a better range of passing, more physical presence and never gets caught on the ball like Longstaff frequntly does. And that's my rant for today.

Petrol will increase at some point, it always does. I don't disagree with you btw, but you increase fuel duty and the gammons are howling at the moon. It also inevitably has a knock on effect to the rest of the economy because 99% of goods are tranported by road. And then there is th e town vs rural debate - many rural communities have no bus services operating so no benefit of subsidised bus fares for those residents who you propose to hit with fuel duty to compound this. Nothing is simple.

I'd agree he's done very well and that the project has stalled significantly before it's completion but I can't agree with the description of the personnel. Eddie brought all these lads in - Pope, Tino & Hall at significant cost to the budget. Only a few months ago we were lauding these as the future of England and now we are saying they're not good enough. We've seen them play FAR better than they currently are, save for Hall whose performances have stood out amongst the mediocrity of late. Our midfield 3 should on paper, be one of the best in the league. Isak is being touted for Arsenal and Barnes and Gordon are good enough for most teams pushing for Europe. I know BDB has had games where he has been a real force, but I think him and Schar as a pair are too slow and it should be one or the other, but unfortunately we don't have that luxury. I think the defence is key to our way of playing and without it we are exposed as they were yesterday. The PL rules have assisted in causing this strorm, and I think our rapid progress in season 2 has meant a sizeable section of fan base has unrealistic expectations now or what we are capable of. We've spent a shit load but that was due to years of mis management to get some decent players in. There's always going to be crictism of managers when things aren't quite going right, but I think we need to keep the faith and without tempting fate, "stick with the plan" and "trust the process". I'm hoping these PL rules are exposed for what they are and the Saudis can start spending the money they have.
