I agree with you Gemmers on the DoF. I don't think replacing Mitchell for this window would've done much or maybe anything at all to help us. So no need to rush it. A new DoF needs time to get up to speed. It's just an unfortunate and ill-timed situation for Howe on the back of his health scare. But the CEO position should've been addressed fuckin ages ago. That is a ridiculous lack of action from the owners. They should've done better. All told, the club isn't run very well at c-suite level. On the field, Howe, the club staff and the players have worked wonders. In a lot of ways, they've covered for the missteps of a pretty poorly organised operation.

Judging by the energy of Howe's interview from Austria and Keith Downie's latest video, I get the feeling Ekitike's representatives may have given us the run around without really intending to sign with us (or at least we were entertained as an option but ultimately it was all designed to get Liverpool's attention so that they'd confirm their interest, place a bid, & then his representatives could negotiate a contract from a better position for the player). Both Howe & Downie (who seems the best connected of the NUFC-covering journos) seemed a bit exhausted, suggestive of the fact that it was all a big waste of time. Ekitike's team did the same to us when he went to PSG. Looks like they've simply gone for round 2 and it's played out perfectly for them. It's not like player agents have any qualms about acting the cunt for a few extra million dollars. If it is the case you can't really fault us for thinking we had a genuine chance to sign him. You have to operate on a condition of trust to do any deal of this nature. But it seems like we've been taken for a ride for assuming everything was above board. It'd be wonderful if step 2 of round 2 of this little game Ekitike & his team of cunts play plays out the same way as last time.

This window could be the one that kicks us on to the next level or takes us back 3 steps. Our squad is ridiculously thin to compete with Europe and needs strengthening. We've brought a player in who improves the first 11 so it's an excellent start but we are down to 2 recognised strikers, one of which doesn't seem to be that fancied. Defence needs younger bodies and if Longstaff goes, we should really be looking at replacing him too. Given we have such a small management team, it'll be more work to do business later in the window because Eddie will then be focusing on match tactics and team selection rather than trying to arrange deals with incoming players. The owners have fucked up not sorting the management structure quick enough and forseeing this problem with Mitchell. Surely someone within could see it coming. With the owners being at a distance, I do think things have fallen down since Staveley left, even if it's just what is projected to the public.

Also, the irony of the number of posters on that thread (a thread about the transfer of a Newcastle player 76 pages long) calling the deluded world of RTG account sad and obsessed is off the charts

I assume Howe is pissing his pants too, because I'm pretty much repeating what he said yesterday. History tells us it takes weeks to get new recruits trained up in his systems which is why he wanted players in early. It's far from ideal to have to do that once the season has already started, and defeats the purpose of pre season friendlies if he's looking at potentially trying new formations with 2 up front etc.
