A lot of needless focus is put on formations, when in reality managers train players to react based on where the other teams players are and if we have the ball or not. For example, 4-4-2 is how a team will line up for kick-off, but when the No 10 drops into midfield to make space for himself (HBA is a big fan of this) the formation is closer to 4-5-1 (or 4-2-3-1 to you football manager fans) Like wise when a fullback bombs up the pitch, the other fullback will usually drop more centrally to make 3 at the back - with two defenders go man-for-man on the opponents forwards and the spare defender sweeping. But you'd never hear people saying we play 3-5-2 The only thing that matter is how many positions can the players adapt too.

We'll definately buy a forward. Gomis is in the last year of his contract and has said he's leaving. There's much better value out there. Salomon Kalou being a good example. If the papers are to be believed, we'll end up loaning Remi and buying Bent. Both would tide us over until January when Gomis value will have dropped. There's no way Ashley will let the window shut with Shola as second choice forward.
