Tomorrow's mail on sunday Wenger fights to keep £6m Senderos By Daniel King Last updated at 8:59 PM on 26th July 2008 Newcastle have made a shock bid for Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos, increasing the growing tension between Arsene Wenger and his board over the continuing exodus of players. The Arsenal manager was stunned when the offer of about £4million arrived on Wednesday and even more bemused when it was not rejected out of hand by the club. Arsenal's board will hold out for about £6m, but their willingness to consider allowing another first-team squad member to leave after four high-profile departures this summer will alarm supporters and Wenger. Fans are already concerned that the loss of Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini, Gilberto Silva and Jens Lehmann has damaged a squad that is weaker than the one whose Premier League title challenge collapsed under the weight of injuries and inexperience. With the future of top scorer Emmanuel Adebayor also uncertain, the signings of teenage sensation Aaron Ramsey and France midfielder Samir Nasri have not been enough to quell a sense of growing unease. Senderos is far from a supporters' favourite, having made costly mistakes in high-profile games, and Wenger agrees with his board that the Swiss stopper struggles at the highest level. But while the manager wants to keep the player, his directors believe selling at the right price would represent good business. The only significant obstacle to a deal appears to be concern over Kolo Toure's bout of malaria. It is thought Toure will recover to start the new season, but if that assessment changes, Senderos will be required to stay, especially since another cover player, Alexandre Song, will be playing for Cameroon at the Olympics. The Arsenal board's response to Newcastle's bid gives further weight to rumours of financial problems at The Emirates, which were fuelled by the sudden sacking of chief executive Keith Edelman in May. The search for Edelman's replacement continues and further off-field instability, including the stand-off over Uzbek billionaire Alisher Usmanov's desire to buy Arsenal, has not made life easy for Wenger. When former vice chairman David Dein was forced out more than a year ago because of his support for a takeover - he is now chairman of Usmanov's Red and White Holdings, the largest single shareholder in Arsenal - Wenger lost a trusted friend and ally who handled every aspect of transfers at the club. Senderos, though, would be a welcome addition to Kevin Keegan's squad as the Newcastle boss revamps a defence who conceded too many sloppy goals last season, and who lost 1-0 at Championship side Doncaster yesterday. 'I'm expecting one or two new faces to come in,' said Keegan, who is pursuing Blackburn left-back Stephen Warnock, despite having a £3.75m bid rejected. 'We only have one right-back and one leftback. We do need one or two additions and things will start to happen in the next week to 10 days.'

I was highlighting that our squad needs strengthening, had today's starting XI been made up of kids and also-rans, played at the managers luxury whilst our first choice players were brought on at leisure, no one (not even me) would have batted any eyelid, but the truth of the matter is todays starting XI was practically all Keegan had to field. Our squad is weak, and needs strengthening, today's team was a stark example of that, that is the only point I was trying to make. -

Barring Owen, Viduka, Martins, Barton, Gutierrez, etc. etc. avaliable are they? that was my point nobhead Jimbo said it was practically our strongest 11 and I named 5 players who will be in the first 11. Therefore, this wasn't anything like our strongest 11 and that Jimbo was being melodramatic. Because he's a big girl He actually said it was our strongest XI available, which it was. We are going to have injuries, people at home for bereavements, players in jail etc. during the season which will likely leave us with this as our starting XI Sure, if our strongest forwards are injured, if Spiderman still doesn't have a work permit and Barton is back in Jail and we don't sign anyone else in the remaining three weeks... in fact, what am I talking about, of course we should freak out, lets knee jerk our little hearts out Has anyone said 'Keegan Out!' yet? Don't worry, Jimbo's thread will inevitably be along soon. I'm tempted to start a combined Keegan/Ashley out thread. I know you'll get a kick out of it if I do, I think we all recall your hissy-fit following my Allardyce out thread -

from .com It was an absolutely awful performance from our purple-clad rabble, even given that it was a friendly in July with a number of absentees. Last week's hat-trick man, Damien Duff could barely cross the halfway line and our front pairing of Shola Ameobi and Alan Smith were just embarrassing, barely Championship standard. -

Michael Owen has told Newcastle United that he is eager to remain at the club beyond the end of his present contract, but the England forward will not accept a pay cut as the price for his loyalty. The 28-year-old striker is relishing life under Kevin Keegan, but unless a new deal is agreed before next summer, Owen will be entitled to leave St James' Park on a free transfer. Owen earns in the region of £120,000 a week at Newcastle, whose owners are attempting to exercise wage restraint. Negotiations are continuing and remain positive in tone, but at an age when he should be reaching his peak - in spite of his recent history of injuries - Owen expects his present terms to be extended. Keegan, the Newcastle manager, has spoken repeatedly of the importance of securing his captain's future. The forward has been suffering from mumps this summer, but he scored seven goals in his final nine club games last season and is hoping to pick up where he left off. Related Links “The end of the season was great,” Owen said. “When I get into a rhythm and I'm playing regularly it's fine, but since I've been here it's been stop-start, with a lot of injuries. It's probably been the first time in my career it's been like that. “I had a few problems earlier on with hamstring problems, but it's been major things since I've been at Newcastle - six operations and none prior - so it was nice to finally get into a nice rhythm and score a few goals. That'll continue as long as I get on the pitch. “Towards the end of last season we beat Sunderland 2-0 and went seven games unbeaten and there was a real feel-good factor about the squad. We were buzzing. It was a cracking run. Hopefully we can begin the new season in the same way as we ended the last one. “We have quite a small squad, but a close-knit one and one with a lot of quality. It's a lovely honour to lead the team out.”

Sunderland make another signing, and guess what !!!! He's Irish !! Sunderland snap up Irish teenager Sunderland Sunderland have signed Cork City midfielder David Meyler on a three-year-deal for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Irishmen Daryl Murphy and Roy O'Donovan in establishing himself in the first team. "I'm here to succeed, I'm not here to fail," said Meyler, who is a friend of new team-mate Liam Miller. "My ambition is to break into the first team as soon as I can. I want to do it here, and hopefully I can." Manager Roy Keane played a big part in Meyler's decision, and the Cork-born teenager is keen to return the favour to his new mentor. "Keane is a legend where I come from, everyone grew up watching him play and that included me," he said. "He's given me a great opportunity here with Sunderland and obviously I'll hopefully repay him."

Keane is one of the best strikers in the Premier League in my opinion, a great signing for Liverpool.

Oba's death blaze horror OBAFEMI MARTINS is set to miss the start of the season after his mum died in a blaze horror. The Newcastle striker cut short his pre-season plans to fly home to Nigeria last night. Martins’ mother Alhaja, 62, died of shock in her car after trying to escape a petrol tanker that caught fire near her Lagos apartment. Brother Biola said: “Oba was closer to our mother than anyone else in the family. "He just wanted to get on the plane and find out for himself that our mother is truly no more. “He’s still in shock and disbelief and feels terribly down. Oba always consulted her first in any decision to do with his career. “Our mother stood by him when everyone else condemned his decision to dump school in pursuit of an unpredictable future in football. “He once got himself into trouble for choosing to be with her at a time she was ill instead of playing in an international friendly with Nigeria.” Martins, 23, will skip tomorrow’s friendly against Doncaster and could miss Toon’s Majorca training camp next week — making him a fitness doubt for the start of the Premier League season next month. Alhaja rallied family and friends to escape the scene at around 3am yesterday but collapsed as she tried to move her car. She had been set to move to Tyneside permanently in September. Martins’ cousin Muftau Balogun, who witnessed the incident, said: “Oba called the moment he heard and cried uncontrollably.” Martins was involved in a car hijacking two years ago when masked gunmen shot at him and a friend in Lagos.

Newcastle United's increasingly desperate hunt for a new central defender has caused them to look again at the Argentinian international Fabricio Coloccini, a mainstay of the Deportivo La Coruña team, who would cost around £8m. The club are considering a serious bid as they run out of options for defensive cover in the new season. Kevin Keegan may not be completely sold on the club's approach to transfers, executive director Dennis Wise runs the operation from London, but it is getting to the point where he is going to have to trust the judgement of Wise and his assistant Tony Jimenez if Newcastle are to be competitive next season. Coloccini's name has been known to Premier League scouts over the last few years, but there are doubts about his suitability for the English game. He had an unsuccessful spell at Milan and, moving around in Spain after that, has established himself at Deportivo where he captained the team on occasions last season. He has the added advantage of being versatile and has played at right-back and as a defensive midfielder in Spain. A full Argentina international, who played at the 2006 World Cup, Coloccini, 26, is contracted for the next three years. Not that Newcastle can afford to be too choosy at the moment. They were turned down by Anton Ferdinand earlier this month and have already dispensed with the services of Stephen Carr and David Rozehnal. They have made just two signings all summer in Jonas Gutierrez, the Real Mallorca striker, and Danny Guthrie from Liverpool. They are also interested in Blackburn's Stephen Warnock, but the list of those they have missed out on is more extensive. The club had intended to make this summer one of intensive rebuilding with Wise, Jimenez and Jeff Vetere, the club's head of player recruitment, scouring Europe for the best, competitively-priced talent. They have not always concurred with Keegan on the type of players that the club should be trying to attract, but the urgency to bolster the squad will increase the closer they get to the start of the new season. The Newcastle captain Michael Owen said yesterday that he had missed two end-of-season England friendlies because he contracted the mumps. "They would not let me go in case I infected any of the other England players," he said.

This is it...I'm worried I'm going to get drunk at the wedding and say something silly to her.... Just give her a bit of Stout and Tia Maria, she'll love you forever. Is that what the kids are calling it these days? What happened to good old Rohypnol eh ? Why use Rophypnol when a brick is free? "roofie" delivered from a blow-pipe leaves less mess I found. Who cares about a little mess? You're going to have to Dexter the place anyway In my experience it's better to receive a blow-job from a subject without a broken jaw tbh.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/9...ce_officer.html Matt Gary Whitton, of Forest Park, Georgia, who is a Police Officer with the Clayton County Police Department, has gone public with the announcement that he and his associate, Rick Dyer, purportedly a former Army Ranger, have in their possession the corpse of a slain Sasquatch or Bigfoot that they recovered while on an expedition in the mountains of North Georgia to capture a live specimen. Examination of the body reportedly revealed a 30:06 rifle bullet that apparently caused the death of the creature. Subsequent interviews with a local hunter possibly have identified that hunter as the one who fired the fatal shot from a deer blind. The wounded Sasquatch ran away from the hunter and was later obtained by Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer, perhaps aided by their tracking dogs, although the exact means of their possession is not yet disclosed. The Bigfoot corpse is described as a male, about seven foot tall, muscularly built and covered with long, reddish-brown hair. The features have a blend of human and ape-like characteristics, according to eyewitnesses. The body is preserved in a freezer, in a location that appears to be the Whitton residence, as pictured in videos posted on YouTube. Both Matt "Gary" Whitton and Rick Dyer assert that the corpse will be publicly revealed on September 1st, 2008., and insist that it is not a hoax. They have posted a total of nine videos on YouTube that contain allusions to the discovery. The claim has created a vigorous controversy among the ranks of Sasquatch/Bigfoot researchers and cryptobiologists. Whitton and Dyer's posts on YouTube are lacking in professionalism, and the videos are spontaneous and off-the-cuff. There is a fair amount of braggadocio and self promotion, with plugs for their services as guides on expeditions to capture or hunt for a Bigfoot. But that does not mean that their claim of a frozen corpse is a hoax. In fact, from an analysis of their body language, and patterns of neuro-linguistic expression, they do not appear to be lying.
