  1. After bookmakers shortened the odds on Sam Allardyce losing his job, the Newcastle United manager yesterday remained philosophical about the "outside influences" intensifying the atmosphere and speculation around St James' Park. Allardyce is an odds-on favourite to be jobless before the end of the season and to be the next top-flight manager to leave his post but he remains unperturbed, buoyed by what he insists is a healthy relationship with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and chairman Chris Mort. Sam Allardyce blames outside influences Going nowhere: Sam Allardyce says he and Michael Owen are both staying at Newcastle United "I talk to the chairman on a regular basis," Allardyce said. "I talk to Mike Ashley, or sometimes there is no need to. He is kept informed on a regular basis by the chairman but we have a regular conversation. "I do not have any problems or worries as far as they are concerned. The pressure that has been put on them as well as me, they understand, is outside influences trying to exert pressure on them." Allardyce spoke out following a weekend when former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer was linked with the role after it emerged he was eager to enter management. "It [shearer's name] has always been there and always will be," Allardyce said. "There is nothing more to say on the subject." advertisement With Martin Jol also mooted as a possible replacement, Mort had sought to clarify matters by stating: "All this makes me laugh and I find all this speculation tedious. There is a different name every week and there is just no truth in it." Despite speculation mounting over his future due to a string of poor results, it was a case of business as usual for Allardyce as the January transfer window loomed. "I'm putting players forward to the chairman and decisions will be made from there," Allardyce, 53, said. "I was never given an indication of a budget in the summer. We went from player to player if and when, and it will be similar in January." As for possible departures, he added: "We have no offers from anyone. It would have to be a very lucrative offer for anyone to move away from the club unless someone tells me they do not want to stay." Michael Owen has previously been linked with a move to Manchester City, who visit St James' Park tomorrow, but Allardyce said: "There has been nothing from Manchester City to Newcastle United about Michael Owen." Allardyce is now weighing up whether Owen is ready to start his first game in six weeks following a thigh injury.

  13. Ipswich are considering offering a contract to former Newcastle wideman Laurent Robert. The Frenchman with the rocket left foot is on trial at Portman Road, and Town boss Jim Magilton admits both parties are ‘looking at each other’. Robert is currently a free agent after being released by Spanish club Levante, and his quality would be welcome in an Ipswich side that is still to win away from home this season. “Laurent Robert is very good friends with our chief scout Charlie Woods and he invited him over to watch our game against Burnley,” explained Magilton. “He is a free agent and if he wants to have a look at us and let us have a look at him then he is more than welcome. “It is an open invite and he’s certainly someone whose quality can help us.”

  15. Its rather naive to expect someone to put their name to such a quote.
  16. NEWCASTLE'S billionaire owner Mike Ashley will have to pay out a staggering £50MILLION to sack manager Sam Allardyce. Ashley will spend the New Year weekend weighing up his options amid mounting turmoil at St James' Park. Under-fire Allardyce was fuming after Salomon Kalou's blatant ‘offside' goal sealed United's 2-1 defeat at Chelsea. He stormed: "Managers are losing their jobs sooner than ever and that means there is even more pressure on decisions. That was a horrid decision. I wouldn't mind being fined for criticising but what is the point? READ: Toon mutiny "The Chelsea player was three yards offside. It is certainly the worst decision against me this year. But referee Mike Riley should have gone over to linesman Mike Cairns and given him time to change his mind." Yesterday's defeat at Chelsea comes on top of a shocking away loss at Wigan and a tame home draw with bottom club Derby. A Newcastle insider declared: "It will cost Ashley a fortune to get rid of Allardyce and find a replacement." Ashley would have to fork out £7.5m to pay up the remaining two-and-a-half years of Allardyce's £3m-a-season deal. That figure will rise to a staggering £20m to pay off the huge backroom team which Allardyce brought in. Any new manager would want at least a £10m contract to take over — plus a £20m transfer kitty. Twist The axe could fall on Allardyce as early as next week if the club are knocked out of the FA Cup by Stoke as the Toon boss faces a dressing room revolt. Alan Shearer is the man the fans would love to take over but he will not consider the job while Allardyce is still in place. Even then, he has some doubts about whether the job is right for him. The insider said: "It's by no means certain Shearer will take over because of the situation the club is in. "So Ashley has to decide whether to stick or twist with Allardyce because of the huge sums involved." A source close to the Newcastle owner said: "We are not going to win the League but we are not going to go down. Not all of Sam's buys have worked out and Ashley isn't convinced there is any need to spend at this stage. If he sticks with Sam, he will wait to see how much more the manager can get out of the existing players." Former Spurs boss Martin Jol is a long-odds outsider for the job because Ashley is close friends with former Tottenham director Paul Kemsley-the man who was instrumental in the Dutchman's departure from White Hart Lane.
  17. New Year but same old Newcastle crisis By Ray Ryan SAM ALLARDYCE is facing revolts from his players, his backroom staff and the fans as he battles to keep his job at Newcastle. After just seven months in the job, Allardyce is looking increasingly isolated as the clamour for his sacking grows. Yesterday's 2-1 defeat at Chelsea has only increased that pressure as senior players have become increasingly frustrated by the team's lack of progress, their negative tactics and the manager's questionable signings. The fans are equally upset at the way Newcastle are playing, especially after Allardyce went with a 4-5-1 formation on Boxing Day at Wigan and still ended up losing. The former Bolton boss has brought in nine players and more than 18 backroom staff, yet even among them there is doubt over his decisions. A senior Newcastle source said: "The whole place is a mess. People are not happy and changes will have to be made very shortly. "Results on the field have not been good and things are far from good off it as well. "Owner Mike Ashley has been sitting among the fans and has been given an insight into how they feel." Many fans would love to see Alan Shearer given a chance as manager but the Toon legend is in two minds. Shearer was critical of the way Newcastle played on Boxing Day, bemoaning their lack of flair and creativity in his role as a BBC pundit. The former Newcastle No9 insisted the fans wanted to see exciting, free-flowing football. But he has no experience of management and knows the job could be a poisoned chalice. Progress He enjoys legendary status on Tyneside and several people close to him have warned he may jeopardise that by taking over a team with little chance of progress. However, Shearer is a determined character and may well see the job as a chance to make a massive impression. Allardyce has been forced to live with speculation surrounding Shearer yet he insists it is something which does not faze him. He said: "I've had people ask me about Alan Shearer replacing me but that is out of my hands. "The only thing that can stop the criticism and speculation is winning games. That's what we are paid to do. "I believe I can still do a job here — given time — because it is a slow process turning a football club around. "This club has never lived up to fans' expectations but I believe we can still move in the right direction." Whoever ends up in charge faces a massive job to repair the club's shattered morale. Allardyce publicly criticised his players after they scraped a draw with Derby and lost at Wigan. Senior players believe that broke the bond of trust between them and the manager and now feel little or no loyalty to him. Allardyce also lost face with the players by attempting to take them to a hotel for four days over Christmas. Several members of the first-team squad complained, insisting they wanted to be with their families on Christmas Day, and Allardyce changed his mind. Ironically, that has only served to strengthen the players' hand because they believe they forced him to reconsider. Fit Questions have been asked in the dressing room about why Joey Barton was out roaming the streets in Liverpool at 5am on Thursday morning, when he hadn't been fit enough to play against Wigan the day before. Allardyce fought hard to persuade the Newcastle board to sign Barton on the understanding he was a reformed character. Now, with Barton spending New Year in jail after allegations of assault and affray, the manager's judgement will be called into question. Some players also believe Sam shows favouritism to Michael Owen, who has spent much of his time at St James' Park injured. They believe Owen, who has made just 14 appearances for the club in 2007, is given a start every time he is fit, regardless of how well other players might be doing. Allardyce's position could be decided in a crucial FA Cup tie at Stoke next week. Chairman Chris Mort has always given his backing to Big Sam. But that changed last week after the 1-0 defeat to Wigan, when he publicly refused to give any support to Sam. Owner Ashley — in an interview with the News of the World earlier in the season — admitted he would give Allardyce plenty of time to turn the club around. But he is known in the business world as a ruthless man who gets what he wants and will not stand for second best. He will not be scared by the £50million price tag on getting rid of Allardyce if he believes that is the right decision to take the club forward. Axe With the January transfer window about to open, Ashley does not have much room for manoeuvre. He could axe Allardyce now and give the new boss cash to spend immediately in a desperate attempt to turn things around. But if he decides to give Allardyce more time, he could find himself boxed into a corner by the end of next month with no improvement on the pitch and no opportunity to make significant changes.
  18. There's a quote from Allardyce's interview in The Mag that I have ringing in my ears: "Milner doesn't play on the right so thats the end of that" Where did he play today ????
  19. I totally agree, although I do believe he stayed too long, but has sadly never been replaced. Replaced with someone that stayed too long? eh? FFS, do you want me to draw you a picture ?
