  1. You just don't get it at all do you? As explained in the Liverpool thread there is lots more to Liverpool than the Beatles, although they are a gigantic draw. Does it matter what attracts people to a city btw? Do you not have signs saying 'Welcome to Catherine Cookson country'? These are mostly free entrance but Liverpool does ok on this list as well, and as you can see, not a Beatle place in sight. In fact National Museums Liverpool are the only national ones outside of London in this country. Visitor Stats You what ? Just for clarity, are you saying the only "National" museums outside of London are in Liverpool? It's actually Group of Museums, yes, outside of the 4 capitals of London, Belfast, Edinburgh, Cardiff due to their importance to British Heritage.
  2. With reference to the one who was totally ignorant of Liverpools maritime history, maybe you should take a trip tp our Maritime Museum. As already pointed out it doesn't do too badly on the visitor numbers, as don't some of the other free attractions in Liverpool. Over a million visits to Merseyside Maritime Museum Last time I was in the NE I stayed at Beamish Hall, not too good on the hotel capabilities but the building is stunning, different to most country houses I've seen. Just couldn't put my finger on what it was but it's a beautiful old place. Also, The Stables is a really good restaurant, was impressed with the whole set up.
  3. Horse racing fan, mate? A couple of tips for you; Dinner Hour, 12-1 Wet Paint, (Sticks to the fences, mate). Yeah a horse racing fan, go to the local courses 6 or 7 times a year. Thanks for the tips, here's one for you, Ironing Board, you can put your shirt on it.

  5. That's because there isn't one. WHY would you go there, like honest, question? Why would you go to Hull by the same measure? People come here for many reasons. It has some fantastic architecture, a world renowned maritime history, a vibrancy that has always been there, a long standing cultural legacy, a fantastic war history, we even have places linked to the American civil war. The most famous race in the world watched by 10 billion, plus two football teams who between them have made it in to the most successful footballing city in England with 27 league titles between them. One of the most well known water fronts in the world, you'd be surprised how many people come just because they like the water front. There is so much more and that's without touching on the music, merseybeat and such. As much, if not more, than most cities outside of London. 10 billion So there's 4 billion more people watch it than who are actually alive, must be fuckin massive mate! Aye due to a boat that sank. Why did it have Liverpool on the side when it was built in Belfast by the way? As already explained took a leaf out of your book of exaggeration. Are you actually saying that our fantastic maritime history is due to The Titanic? I never even gave her a second thought whenn writing about our history. She was registered in Liverpool because that was the home port of it's owners, White Star Line. You really don't have a clue. Says the man who wasn't aware that only 6 billion people are alive today. Bet you were imagining little Cambodian's huddled round their black and white portables off some paddy field watching the national, you definitive doilum. Wasn't aware? Oh do fuck off you nob. I don't imagine anything of the sort, I just accept it's the biggest horse race in the world watched in 140 countries with an audience of 600 to 800 million.

Why did it have Liverpool on the side when it was built in Belfast by the way? Their maritime history stretches to more than just the Titanic Stevie. It was the wealthiest commercial port in the world. In the same way our industrial wealth was built up on shipbuilding, theirs was on maritime trade. As for your query it was built in Belfast and sailed from Southampton but it was owned by the White Star Line who were based in Liverpool. It was up to them to register the vessel so that is why its home port was asssigned as Liverpool. I know it was built up on the slave trade, the very purpose of the city is stained with blood on its' hands. Didn't know that re:Titanic The slave trade was a small part of the maritime history of Liverpool, and as for blood on it's hands then fucking hell every person in this country was walking round in bloodstained material. How the fuck do you think Manchester became a mill town known as Cottonopilis?
  7. I bet liverpool fans NEVER mentioned a combined total before man utd overtook them I have no problem just mentioning our own 18 Doc, I was just giving a summary of the CITIES footballng history.

  9. You're right trophyshy, that's including all the repeats and podcasts etc... well if one of yours can exaggerate so much, thought I'd have a go myself. Between 600 and 800 million live. 140 countries.

  11. He wasn't all bad then. It what comes of being an important place Doc, but yeah, some would agree with your comment. De Jerrrrrmhans bombed are chippeeeeee. Important place so important it's the only city in Europe that has seen its' population half in 80 years. The most important thing it had was the passport office, but you can get them all over now. You really are a dope aren't you? You know so much about Liverpool I'm surprised you haven't heard of Kirkby, Skelmersdale and Runcorn. All overspill towns where Scousers were moved to because the city was so crowded, plus the 11,000 homes lost during the war, meaning people had to be re-housed outside of the city boundary. In more recent years economic decline has certainly played it's part in population decline but Liverpool is on the up again, live with it. Sorry, I should have qualified the important city with 'during WW2'. There are no important cities in the UK outside of London during peace time. So crowded??? It's easily the most derelict place I've ever been. Leeds, Edinburgh and Manchester are very important for the economy you absolute mong, most regional capitals are. PMSL at that. You were the one who brought 80 years in to the debate. I answered that, if you don't want to believe it then fine, I'd expect nothing less from a deluded bigot. Liverpool is far from derelict as the number of visitors will testify to. The cities you mention are only important in as much as they get more crumbs from the capitals table than the rest, London is the only important UK city.
  12. There's plenty NJS, although the biggest band ever do attract a fair number. I'm sure your Catherine Cookson country helps your area.

  15. Many thousands of people like going to defunct concentration camps in Poland too. Each to their own tbh. It must be really irksome to you that though Hitler tried to bomb Liverpool out of existence , it rose up and overcame the damage he inflicted. Not the most definitive but Trip Advisor not without merit either. Top 25 UK destinations 2011 1 London (#3 in Europe) 2 Edinburgh (#9 in Europe) 3 Bath 4 Cambridge 5 Oxford 6 Stratford upon Avon 7 York 8 Inverness 9 St Andrews 10 Liverpool 11 Glasgow 12 Brighton 13 Belfast 14 Canterbury 15 Manchester 16 St Ives 17 Cardiff 18 Windemere 19 Newcastle 20 Aberdeen 21 Windsor 22 Bournemouth 23 Salisbury 24 Chester 25 Oban pmsl at that list. I'm embarrassed for you. Forgetting about what a hovel Liverpool is, Inverness!??!?! pmsl When I was there the main point of interest was a Ghwatt shop. Keep trying though. London third in Europe, as a city destination it is about 40% bigger than any other city on earth in terms of visitor numbers. Missing the point as usual I see. It really doesn't matter what YOU think of a place at all, it's about the general consensus of the visiting public and for them Newcastle is below Liverpool. I don't have to try, it's quite easy to put a bigot in his place. You constantly TRY to downgrade Liverpool but it always comes back in your face whether it's the city or the football team. You're completely obsessed with Liverpool, it's people and it's namesake football team, and very sadly for you, the city is far from a hovel, the people aren't all scumbags and it's namesake football team is one of the biggest clubs in the world, deal with it and move on ffs. I don't have a problem with London having it's top place in the world, I love the place, lived there for a few years long ago and had a great time. Complete bollocks, Newcastle regularly gets voted the best city North of London, as Chez link showed we get far, far, far more British visitors than Liverpool gets, and I don't NEED to try to downgrade Liverpool it speaks for itself pal. I don't really need to do anything apart from laugh at your links. Of course the people aren't all scumbags, even in places like Kabul and Kandahar you'll get thoroughly decent people there. As far as I can see there's only one person who speaks complete bollocks on this board and Chez's post was for the North East you thickheaded nob. I'm more than happy to do the North East Vs The North West if you like, but whether visitors come from the UK or the rest of the world Liverpool still proves more popular on the majority of lists. Speaking of scumbags, or complete nobs in this instance, I can't help but hope that you're not representitive of people from Newcastle.

  18. But if you also put that in to perspective that makes Jordan Henderson "according to someone else earlier on in this thread" the 55th most highley paid footballer of all time! I am sorry but that really is a joke! I wait for ends of season to do my laughing. Paying over the odds in transfer fees for "Potential" then giving them 80k a week wont be at all funny unless you get CL football and you will not break into the Top 4 next year mate. Just hope your owners have a sense of humour when Kenny the Cunt has spunked away all their money and the best you get is the Europa league. Lend's your crystal ball. I love it when any old fan pontificates about other clubs new players as though they actually know what they're talking about. Our owners, like the fans, are very happy with Kenny and if that irks you well tough shit. 16 million 65k a week, keep peddling the Sunderland version if you want but don't expect me to agree. Kenny may be a cunt for you but to me he's always been a winner as in 'wins trophies', but hey, don't let that get in the way of your upside down thinking. As he simply spunked away money to no end whilst at SJP Kenny remains a Cunt as far as I am concerned; by the way he won fuck all here despite his spending some 38M and that was a serious amount of dosh then. Oh aye getting rid of Ginola, Ferdinand, Asprilla, Beardsley and Lee Clark were all strokes of master Cunt. However lets see exactly how much he wins for you next season and which, if any, European competition you qualify for. Then will be the time to see just how happy the owners and fans are. Couldn't care less what he won or didn't win anywhere else. For Liverpool he's always been a winner, player and manager. I doubt the core fans will ever be on his back, he owes us nothing and has given us some of the greatest days and nights a football fan could hope to expect. I personally think Kenny will take us back in to Europe, hopefully the CL, can't stand the way the UEFA cup has gone, it's less than the League Cup now, and our not being in it this coming season is the best thing that could've happened at the present time. But the 1st of September is the best time to judge clubs squads and debate where they might finish, not a fortnight before the window even opens officially.

  21. Depends who you believe Tom doesn't it. I've heard 65k but even at 80k it's not that bad considering some of the wages around. I'd rather see a young player with potential get 80k, than Joe Cole drawing 90.
  22. Wasn't crap with us though, he created the greatest Liverpool team I've ever seen and, imo, he also created the best English club side I've seen. Every manager makes some mistakes in the transfer market, Kenny didn't make any high priced mistakes for us. 16 million for a young player with potential and lower wages makes sense at the present time. We haven't got European football to offer so it's a waste of time buying high priced players who are only willing to come if you give them high wages to compensate for no CL. I like the way the club are working personally.
  23. LM, not sure if you've heard of a book called Pay As You Play, it's by a Liverpool supporter who has always looked in to the stats of situations. This book though is about all clubs, and covers all the Premier League years. Once you get the gist of his/their way of working with the stats it becomes really interesting. This is the book Pay As You Play It's also available on Kindle for £4.78 This is one of the chapters on Newcastle where he assesses the cost per point from individual managers and creates a table where Sir Bobby surprisingly sits at the lower end of it. It's not a slight on him it's to do with the amount of managers you've had. Sample Chapter
  24. According to Bascombe at the NOTW I believe. It'll be up to the lad himself to either buckle down or be a bench warmer. He has the ability, as you all know, he now has to show whether he's prepared to be a professional footballer or a could have been. Have to say, I haven't heard anything bad about the lad on the rumour mill here, he's just been seen out having a couple of pints after the team has won, nothing untoward.
  25. Henderson cost 16 million because he was young and English. This is what DC says about the transfer policy this summer. "Yes and no. It's not because a player is English and young that we are going to go for him. We go for a player because he ticks all the boxes. It's what we need at this time in this window. If a player is English or British or has played in the Premier League we'll look at that over someone who is abroad but it could be any nationality as long as they tick the boxes and is what we need for this window and going forward." I haven't seen enough of the lad to comment really but I'm happy with the signing and look forward to seeing how he develops under Kenny.
