  1. You're ugly ignorance doesn't get any better does it? Houllier may have suffered the fans displeasure at Liverpool a few times, but his heart condition was not of the stress kind. LuckyLuke(?) can educate you better than I can, he seems to know what he's talking about. If anyone has stress related health problems why go in to a stressful job? Houllier, just like Kinnear, chose to do jobs that will always be stressful even if their teams are successful.
  2. I saw the same report and didn't hear 'world' mentioned. The whole reason for the hook up is so that he actually can raise his profile outside of the States. ''arguably the most recognizable name and face in professional sports today'' The actual words, and referring to his status in America. Given he was talking about global branding and then said that quote, I'd argue he was intimating LeBron James is "arguably the most recognizable name and face in professional sport" across the world. Which he isn't. He's not even the most recognisable face in professional sports in the states, that would still be Woods or Beckham. Well you can take it any way you like, doesn't mean it's true though, you added the word world. I couldn't give a flying one about the guy myself but it obviously bothers you for some reason, this quote from the chairman explains it as far as I can see. "We're not interested in talent or athlete representation but we think he is one of the most remarkable athletes of his time," Mr. Werner said in an interview Tuesday. "We believe we can open doors for LeBron and LeBron can open doors for us." The way I read it is we'll be doing a tour of the States at some point, and they think he'll help to raise LFC's profile higher than it already is. How is it impossible for Liverpool to seriously compete?

  4. We'd probably be doing that now if we didn't have an owner with deep pockets. Spurs - their ONLY debt is debt they took on to develop their training complex. They operate within their means and they've just turned a profit. Liverpool - Massive debts but they turn a profit (well they did when they were locked in the Champs league) and their sponsorship is 10 times ours. The new owner has said, they must sell to buy. Be interesting how they do now they've "slipped".We had Champions League debts and costs on a non Champions League footing, where'd the money come from Leazes to assault the 4 - 6 of top of the league. That isn't true, our new Yanks paid off the leveraged debt to the bank and have said they won't be taking anything out of the club for the forseeable future. Prior to Hicks and Gillette no Liverpool chairman or director, took anything out of the club, either in the form of dividends or wages, all profits were re-invested in the club, that was the way it always was. These new Yanks have said the same thing will happen with them, profits will be re-invested. So where you got sell to buy from I don't know. The Torres deal may have worked out that we'd spent nothing, but they had already offered Ajax the money for Suarez before anyone knew that Torres wanted a move.
  5. . Sorry like but 8 or 9. Your point about Liverpool being much bigger than us. They've won more trophies since Shankly, and that is an obvious thing to say, but if they are that much bigger how come from 1995 to 2003 Newcastle generally had a higher turnover? A little bit of success on the pitch and you wouldn't even mention that. They generally didn't, not a great deal of difference though. I'm not sure when your ground capacity went up to 52,000 but match day revenue would make a difference. Liverpool/Anfield was run like a corner shop under Moores and Parry. They never maximised the profit Liverpool could have been making, it took them years of resistance to even bring in corporate boxes. The one good thing Hicks/Gillett did was to appoint a commercial director, which we'd never had before, who has certainly increased profits very highly just on sponsorship deals alone. There was a pricing policy in place between Liverpool, Everton, United and City for a long time which kept prices surprisingly low considering the success of Liverpool, United and Everton, but that all went when the respective Yanks came in. Liverpool and Everton still have a season ticket allocation curb as far as I know. Each club only allow, I think, 29,000, which is the reason Liverpool have such a large and long standing waiting list. The below figures are interesting in as much as it shows how good your wage ratio was in comparison to ours. What on earth were you doing employing all of those people though? 6. [quote name='Brazilianbob' date='Mar 9 2011, 09:59 AM' post='879265' I am reliably informed by my Manu supporting Londoner colleague that "You'll never walk alone" was appropriately first sung by ManU fans at their first game after the Munich air crash, which was against Sheffield Wednesday. It was only later adopted by the scousers because of the Gerry and the Pacemakers link. On a lighter note, I was once browsing a footie forum where a Liverpool fan was arguing long and hard that the song was penned by Gerry and the Pacemakers As for Liverpool not being a dirty team under Shankly, have you forgotten about Tommy Smith? This is from answers.com I think Manchester Utd Manchester United supporter Jane Hardwick asserted in 2004 that she had performed the song -- together with friends from the New Mills Operatic Society -- at "one of the games" following the Munich Air Disaster as her own personal tribute, before spontaneously being joined "by thousands of fans" around her, until "the whole ground was singing it".[4] This would predate Gerry Marsden's pop cover by five years. However, as one local supporter noted: "Anyone who has watched [or] listened to Carousel will tell you, the composition and performance of the musical version with the popular Gerry Marsden version sounds completely different." Put another way, Hardwick may have been an aspiring opera singer, but to believe that the Old Trafford faithful belted out an operatic version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" is highly doubful.[5] Moreover, nothing is recorded on film or in print media to support this claim. This is how I've always known it to be. Prior to Gerry Marsden recording YNWA, I'm sure you'd accept that many football fans wouldn’t have been aware of the song to any great extent. LM is right in his assertions about it largely, but there is also some background. Gerry had loved the song from he first heard it in the 50’s and was singing it as part of his act for a few years prior to recording it, and my Dad said it was a popular number for the band even then. A few footie fans who’d seen Gerry do it had started singing it on the away coaches, but only when Gerry recorded it did they manage to get it going in the ground. At the time, the songs played leading up to KO at Anfield were the latest from the pop charts with the fans joining in, especially as many of them were from local bands. The last song to be played was usually the current number 1. YNWA was top of the charts for around 6 weeks so was sung just before kick off for all of those weeks, and it carried on being sung at that time ever after. During the 1965 Cup Final, where it was sung loudly as you can imagine, Shanks decided that the club should adopt it as it’s own anthem, which they did and have done ever since.
  7. No one knows who the new owners are yet. But who ever buys will pay back the debt to RBS. So unlike Man Utd we don't have to pay intrest and we wont be losing shit loads of cash. So in nutshell we will have more cash to spend on players. Also whoever buys will have to spend big in Jan and build a new ground. Unlike Newcastle Liverpool is a worldwide supported club so it wont be hard to sell. They are worth at about half a billion dollars. Not enough to rejuvinate Liverpool, bearing in mind they will normally only earmark a percentage for re-investment into the side. Liverpools profits are enough to reinvest in the team, wouldn't like it any other way tbh. The one good thing those two did was appoint Ian Ayre to maximise the profits and he's done a superb job. John Henry alone is worth 800 million dollars but he's only one of a group of 17. It could go tits up with these as well, it remains to be seen, but anything is better than leveraged buy out merchants.
  8. No they don't. We have Irish, Welsh and Scandivian influences in our accents but the Irish were the most prevalent. Link. Link to what? Things I have known for most of my life, long before the internet? So you're basing it on an opinion rather than fact again. A misguided one at that. No I'm basing it on what I've learned, been taught and seen over my lifetime. You're, yet again, talking about something you know nothing about, and I wish I could just call you misguided but sadly, you're too poisonous to be called that.

I admire your honesty in that self portrait but really there's no need, I saw them all in you already. Beyond predictability, this post in itself ticks four of those boxes, but thanks for avoiding my cutting edge question. Cutting edge question? haha PMSL

  11. I'm not saying he's moved anywhere for anything, he just doesn't sound like a Scouser. There are many and varied people from around the country live here. Could even be a Sunderland fan. Howay man, he's a thick cunt but that hardly precludes him from being a Liverpool fan or a Scouser, does it? We've all got them, after all. Absolutely agree, I've seen even worse nobs than him who are Scousers, but he just didn't come across as a one to me.

  16. Newcastle isn't particular near the Scottish border though. Ah well, altzheimers comes to many of us early 200 miles or more? I'm just pointing out it's a myth that Newcastle is close to the Scottish border. It isn't. I think the closest route (by road) is via Carter Bar, which is about 50 miles. If you go north, via Berwick, I think it's over 70 miles. Liverpool's much closer to Wales, for example, and I think Birmingham's closer to Wales too. Don't know what the 200 miles reference is all about. Unless you're suggesting London's near Leeds. I was exaggerating it, failing badly with my sarcasm, sorry. Liverpool is much nearer to Wales, only a drive through the tunnel and a few miles on and you're in Flint I'll let you off Agree about the well run clubs thing btw. I think with a bit more luck we could have won the league perhaps once and a cup or two but when you're talking about dynasty building of the likes of you in the 70s/80s and Man Utd more recently then luck doesn't come into it. I was one of those 'Newcastle is my second team' when you were going for the title, and not only because it was against Man U, but there was the KK connection and it was refreshing to see a club come through like that, playing great football.

  19. you were just an underachieving club before Shankly took over pal, you were nothing. You may well go back to this, in fact you're well on the way already. Liverpool should be in North Wales or Ireland by the way, as most of your gloryseeking support is based there, just like ManU. We were in the 2nd div when Shankly was appointed but isn't appointing the right manager to take you forward the thing that clubs should do. Or do you think that we should have said "eh hang on a minute this might be the start of a dynasty and it wouldn't be fair on clubs like Newcastle"? We had 5 titles when Shanks joined, same amount as Man U, think Sunderland had 6 and you had 4. Liverpool and Man U raced ahead because the clubs were run properly.
  20. Can't believe that you lot actually think this is a Scouser. He doesn't come across as having the remotest amount of intelligence but then seems to know that Newcastle is near to the Scottish Border, can't say I've come across many young ones in this country who are good on geography. I remember one North East guy asking me if Liverpool was anywhere near Leicester, unfortunately I don't find that unusual for some of todays youngsters. This one appears to know more about the North East than Liverpool. He just doesn't sound Scouse at all to me.
  21. And yet wasn't Rafa desperate to get rid of him a season before he did? Aye - as were half the Liverpool faithful. Lost respect for him because they felt he 'wasn't totally committed to the club' when in reality, he was (at the time). Fucking mugs... Not quite right SB. The previous two seasons had seen Xabi become a bit stale by his usual standards, he also had a few injuries and they weren't the best of seasons. Benitez thought Barry would be a better option with a bit more versatility, plus he was English. Alonso was the player he knew he could make the most money from so he tried to sell him. Xabi refused to go, took it personal and went on to play the best football of his life. No-one wanted him to go after that season including Benitez, but Xabi had made his mind up to go back home. He wanted to go solely because of the carry on the previous season though - he as good as admitted that. Point still stands that he was the best signing your club made for a generation. I agree the trying to sell him was what made his mind up. He's certainly one of the best.
  22. Always tickled me and this is true, that the full backs weren't allowed to cross the half way line unless thez were losing and it was the last 10min. Benitez liked his attacking full backs more than wingers and was always trying to upgrade. Johnson and Insua were both attacking full backs. Strange comments from you.

  24. As you say he's 30, he's not as good as he was but still has a lot to offer. For you it's Gerrard makes the difference, for others it's Torres, for Martin Tylers monkey and the rest of the 'professional' pundits we were a one man team and when we lost Alonso, that was it. I think the best teams have always had their share of great players, decent players, and water carriers.
  25. We've never called for a managers head after 7 games. In fact Gullit's record in 99/00 was 0 1 7, yet he got applauded in the car park when he left. I hate these cunts so much. The only manager I truly wanted rid of was Souness, and even then our patience was pushed so far, they wouldn't have put up with FSA CGS RG as long as we did that's a fact. Their class, hounding a manager who brung them 6 trophies in 4 years, who had a heart attack and almost died, out of the club for ONLY coming 5th, then the next year HIS team win the biggest trophy of the lot. Their quality, don't know what that means but other than maybe 7 seasons they've had better sides than us over the last 50 years. Their history, up to 1971 we had a richer history than them they far suppass us now though so I'll give them that one. Their dignity is the best one. No club in world football has the blood on their hands that they do. Callously causing the deaths of 39 innocent football fans in a cowardly charge, then having the audacity to blame, Chelsea, the stadium, the fuckin NF and everyone but themselves. Cowardly stealing tickets off their own fans on the biggest night of their lives in Athens. Now I make no bones about this we are better people than them, this has never and would never happen with us so it can't be dismissed as high spirits. Also do they not learn, they lost 96 of their own and stormed the gates in Athens, there were many thousands more in the ground than should have been. They are the most downtrodden set of wanks this country has ever or will ever know, fuckin dignity, the utter ignorance is astonishing. You’re known for wanting rid of managers and not giving them time to build. You would say you had cast iron reasons for wanting rid, but like with most football clubs it’s only really the fans OF THAT CLUB who know the truth of what’s going on and what they’re watching every other Saturday. Your hate is very apparent and I'd be very worried if I was that obsessed about another team and it's fans.. There is nothing Liverpool fans do that could possibly meet with your approval. The hate, bile and jealousy from you is the most hideous thing on this site. Yes, there’s others on here that hate us but it’s a pretty healthy hate imo. Yours is just plain ugly. Roy Hodgson, imo, is the worst manager that’s ever walked in to Anfield and the politics surrounding his appointment stinks to high heaven. His tactics are worse than Houlliers in his last two years. He keeps telling us that he shouldn’t be questioned because he’s one of the most respected coaches in Europe and his tactics have transferred from Timbuktu to the rest of the world, wherever. His tactics consist of two banks of four, the back four just in front of the penalty box and the midfield just in front of them. They then mark space waiting for the opposition to attack, when they hopefully win the ball and hoof it up to Torres who has four defenders around him, or to whichever player he’s supposedly playing in the hole which for Roy is the halfway line. It has nothing to do with we're we are in the table, nor even to do with winning anything. Usually with a new manager you can see what he's trying to do within a few games, you see positives that you know will get better over the season. There is nothing like that, it's just defend, defend, defend and nobody can see it going anywhere. Houllier didn’t have a heart attack, he had a leaking heart valve and though he recovered he was never the same again. There were many who were sad to see him go but he had the team going backwards in those two years after his illness, and it was time for him to go. Nothing to do with coming 5th, the decision was made at board room level long before that because of his developing paranoia and marginalising of players. If his team was capable of winning the CL why didn’t he do it? It was more the addition of two Benitez players in Luis Garcia and Xabi Alonso that took us to the final, plus the fact that he’d given Carragher a settled place in the team at CB in which he reveled that season. Benitez and that team won the Champions League, no-one else. Callously? You are a nutter, you weren’t there and believe me, shamefully there was no cowardice about the charge. Again, you weren’t there so haven’t got a clue what the stadium was like. There were no gates at Athens. I have never seen anyone downtrodden in this city and the rest of your opinion is truly ironic. Why do you need to pick this year or that year to show you won some trophies, it's really pathetically small time, we'd won 7 league titles by '71, we were on our way to dominating European and domestic football, get over it. Think the players are to blame for Liv current predicamet rather than Roy. He's earnt his chance at a big club and nothing of what he's upto will emerge in the side till he's been given at least 6-9 months. Liv main problem is the players look jaded and uninterested and don't seem to fancz a season in which thez are going to have to roll their sleeves up. Gerrard is slowlz but surelz becoming shit. Disagree with that to some extent Park Life. The players should take some of the blame, but it's Hodgson who picks them, sets them up, and sends them out to his game plan, which is quite frankly Wimbledon style. We were told he was the man who would get the best out of the players, would put an arm around the shoulder and be a cool calm head in the present air of not knowing what our future would be. Very far from it, there's been none of that ' new manager, team play well with feel good factor' they've played the worse football I've ever seen at Anfield, as did his Fulham team last season. His press conferences are an embarrassment, his getting rid of Insua and Aquilani ( who, over his injury, was starting to look good in the last part of the season) bringing in Konchesky and Poulsen, going after Carlton Cole all point to a mid table manager with little ambition. Not that I think star players would have come to Liverpool without CL, but fuck me, Fulham replaced Konchesky with a much better player and for less money. He supposedly bought Mereilles, who at 27 is a well established midfielder, so why would Hodgson play him in a position the lad has never played in all his footballing life? When clubs look for a new manager they usually look for one who has similar ideas and similar systems to the previous manager so he's able to take the same players, add one or two, and take them forward. Hodgson wants to get rid of any players who can play a bit of football and replace them with hoofers which is why he continually plays Carra with Skrtl and calls Daniel Agger a part of his B team. Benitez could be described as a defensive manager but his teams controlled games, were always pressing. Hodgsons main objective is to defend and if you can break away in the second half then do it. He's not a manager who embraces modern systems or tactics and very much believes his own publicity. A run to the EURO final doesn't a great manager make, imho. “Unbelievable,” said the Liverpool manager, when asked whether his approach could be applied on Merseyside as effectively as it was in west London. “How many clubs have I had in 35 years? What do you mean, do my methods translate? They translated from Halmstads to Malmo to Orebro to Neuchâtel Xamax to the Swiss national team. “The question is quite frankly insulting, I suppose. That question is suggesting something. To suggest that suddenly because you move from one club to another, the methods that have stood you in good stead for 35 years and made you one of the most respected coaches in the Europe suddenly do not work. I find it very, very hard to believe that someone has even asked me that question.” This may be of interest, it's long but it's a good analysis of Hodgsons short time at Anfield. Comparison of Benitez and Hodgson tactics.
